Domaine Fourrier “Combe aux Moines” 1er Cru Gevrey-Chambertin, 2011
A fantastic ‘11! No doubt in a leaner style but there’s clear Fourrier signature and it’s so fresh, with absolutely zero greenness, just beautiful floral perfume and bright red cherry fruit that waft from the glass. The palate gains notably in weight and intensity and its pure, focused and saline-mineral inflicted finish keeps on lingering. Great showing for a vintage I generally avoid in reds.

As has been the adage of drink good wine and have a laugh, this was no exception. Food was as it should be, company great, not a dull moment. Didn’t need the Fontaine Gagnard Bourgogne at the end of the night. 2016 Domaine Armand Rousseau 1er Cru ‘Lavaux St Jacques’ - Absolutely on fire, clear wine of the night, length for days and such a fruit bomb I knew nothing could top it. Raspberry and perfumed earthy soft tannin. Nuts, so good. 2013 Domaine Raveneau Foret Premier Cru - 13 doesn’t affect Chablis it seems, classic, oyster shell, sea spray, etc etc etc. Can I say more? Probably, but Rav is Rav is Rav. 2014 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc - vintage and time makes for a great amalgamation of flavour, green apple, candied nuts, not the star but definitely a highlight. 2015 Domaine Hubert-Lamy Saint Aubin 1er Cru ‘DerriĂšre Chez Edouard’ - Desert wine if you can call it that, it pairs pretty damn well with an apple tart! Lemon zest, white peach, summer flowers. All really cool wines, it is what it is I guess đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

Our latest installment of things holding things that they weren't intended to hold: Colanders. La TĂąche is ...La TĂąche. It's always been interesting to me that these vineyards have been in existence for so long, in this case 500 years? Much has been written elsewhere on that affair, the Gaudichots inclusion, the Liger-Belair ownership and sale to Villaine so we don't need to get into that here. But emphasis on the historical significance of these vineyards (the entire neighborhood after all) is the point. They were always regarded as the very best, and haven't really changed in stature or layout in centuries. (Cros Paranthoux is of course the exception, and upon that reflection I'm not certain what it was before Henri Jayer turned it into a vineyard from a sunchoke farm) The other interesting point is 1991. Effectively panned by "the critics" at the time; a rather poor year it seemed. Hail, rain, uneven flowering. Certainly the whites didn't fare well (I recall being able to get Meursault in the UK for a pittance) a truly unremarkable vintage there I felt the larger problem was that 1990 was rather stellar, and as such demand for 91 was low and prices were down. Imagine that. But even at the time tannins were smooth and sugar was high when picked. Yields were low. The reds had a....sappy slight greenness to the fruit mid palate that wasn't great, many viewed it as a red flag, the more clever amongst us viewed it as a reason to retain better quality wines and lower prices to have something interesting 30 years later. Behold. Super dark in colour, as always, but screaming secondary notes from the glass. Still a bunch of primary fruit flavors and the characteristic pot pourri and tannins seemingly created in the workshops of Agent Provocateur. It's a wonderful trick, and the reason this cuvee has always been my favorite of Romanee Conti's monopole holdings. A delightful way to cap off a fun night with great friends . #pulignyno #vosneyes #drinkburgundy #drinklatache ( #drinklatacheifyoucan) #drc #domainedelatomaneeconti #pinotnoir #silkytannins #agentprovocateur

Armand Rousseau “Lavaux St. Jacques” 1er Cru Gevrey-Chambertin 2019
Showing beautifully pnp. Gorgeous perfumed aromatics, killer concentration, elegant texture and great energy. Rousseau is always next level. This bottling is far better in 2019 than 2018. Both richness and vibrancy.

. Best in class
. 2018 Domaine Trapet PÚre & Fils Marsannay Rouge . Marsannay is one of my refuges for fine, superior value Burgundy (not only red but also white and rosé), and the value proposition becomes even better when the wine is made by Domaine Trapet. . Beautiful crimson ruby colour; ripe juicy red and black forest berries, rose petals, sous bois and liquorice. Touches of stem and spices on the nose; supple on palate with pliant tannins laced with earthy minerals. Amazing complexity, balance and persistence for a village-level wine. Great QPR. . #vintage2018 #DomaineTrapetPereetFils #Marsannay #GrassesTetes #GrandsPoiriers #PinotNoir #drinkMarsannay #GrandVindeBourgogne #drinkBurgundy #eveydaywine #affordablewine

Domaine G. Roumier “Les Cras” 1er Cru Chambolle-Musigny 2020
Sooo open and giving already! The vintage continues to show so well for both red and white right away. Incredible depth of aromatics and pure silk on the palate. Les Cras is always one of my favorite wines.

2020 White Burgundy @manhatta_nyc Jean Marc Roulot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Burgundy, 2020
Stunning wine. Layered richness, satiny and voluminous palate, captivating aromatics. The classic nature of the vintage serves this site perfectly. Benoit Moreau “Les Fairendes” 1er Cru Chassagne-Montrachet 2020
Advance decant. Seamless combination of both richness and purity with killer concentration and a stunningly elegant texture that really stands out. Need to try the Maltroie next.

Drink good wine with good people and talk shit, no more and no less. Every bottle was more enticing than the last; and the story of the evening is one for the ages. Ending at supper inn over an entire coral trout and drinking blended MMAD Grenache and Syrah in an alleyway, what a way to do it. 2018 Coche Dury Bourgogne Aligote - like a lemon infused yoghurt, yet precise acidity and balance. I am pleased with how 18’s are looking at the moment, super cool to drink this at present. Comparable Aligote pales by comparison! 2019 Domaine Henri Boillot Pommard 1er Cru Clos Blanc - Super open and earthy, underpinned by rich fruits, think plum and a touch of cassis. I have enjoyed every single Henri Boillot wine I’ve ever tasted, this is no exception. 2016 Fuligni Brunello Di Montalcino - What was chosen as a pizza wine didn’t eventuate to a pizza wine. Yet this held its own and didn’t need any sign of decanting. Subtle liquorice overladen with an almost nutmeg spice, but bright and youthful.

Peep that color. When mature Lafon hits oh man đŸ«  @emerils Domaine des Comtes Lafon “Charmes” 1er Cru Meursault, 2002
Stunner. Mature white burg at its finest from 02 Charmes, perfectly developed and still incredibly youthful and vibrant with captivating aromatics of spiced orchard fruit, toasted hazelnuts, popcorn and butterscotch that come in waves, and the palate is expansive, textural and stunningly complex, both rich and refined with a silky, crystalline mineral finish. Amazing wine.

Perfect first stop in New Orleans @brennansnola w/ a stunning ‘13 Mugnier FuĂ©es 😍 JF Mugnier “Les FuĂ©es” 1er Chambolle-Musigny, 2013
2013 at top level continues to drink fabulously, and Mugnier’s FuĂ©es, just a magical vineyard and essentially a southern extension of Bonnes Mares, is stunning today on pnp (although last sips were the best) wafting layers of sweet strawberry-rhubarb, sous bois, rose petals, game and smoky minerals. It’s liquid velvet in the mouth with an energetic spine of cool minerality and balanced acids adding freshness and focus to its delivery. It’s simply a beguiling combination of power and elegance and a superb expression of the vintage.

. Versatile gourmet wine
. 2018 Domaine Borgeot Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes Rouge . Pretty deep ruby with a purple hue. Some musty notes upon opening but quickly dissipated, revealing a fine bouquet of violet, potpourri, wild strawberry, redcurrant, cooking spices and smoke. A pretty dense wine; more concentrated and structured than most village rouges I had from the Cîte de Beaune. Nice persistence. Should drink well into the next 5 years. . What wine would you drink with steamed blue mussels? . 2019 Domaine Masse PĂšre & Fils Givry “Clos de la BrĂ»lĂ©e” Blanc . I’d prefer a well-chilled white that’s young and fresh but not too light; lemony, a bit nutty, some chalky salinity, ideally oaked but only gently, with just a touch of creamiess in the texture and flavours. . All things considered I picked this ‘19 Givry Clos de la BrĂ»lĂ©e which delivered exactly what I wanted and paired particularly well with the pot that made in Japanese yuzu kosho style. Went equally good with the garlic prawn volcano pasta too so great QPR. . #vintage2019 #DomaineMassePereetFils #Givry #ClosdelaBrulee #GivryClosdelaBrulee #Barizey #saoneetloire #cotedechalonnaise #Chardonnay #drinkGivry #grandvindeBourgogne #drinkBurgundy #everydaywine #affordablewine #musselwine

. Cherry crisis
. 2018 Domaine Antoine Olivier Santenay “Le Temps des C(e)rises” . This village bottling was a fine example of the commoners’ Bourgogne - succulent red fruits, refined and elegant. Premier cru-like concentration, moderate acidity and gentle oak. A wine I’d be comfortably buying and sipping anytime. The name is meant to be a pun on “cerises” (cherry) and “crises” (crisis). It surely can be both - a wine of cherry and a wine for the crisis. . Perfect combo
. - NV Champagne Krug Grande CuvĂ©e 168Ăšme Édition Brut - 2018 Domaine Bouchard PĂšre & Fils Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru - 1997 Chateau La Violette Pomerol (mine) . These bottles aren’t exactly cheap but dare I say they represent some of the best values within their respective genre. . Time and again, Krug’s Grande CuvĂ©e never disappoints. This Edition 168 - based on the 2012 vintage - was expressive and rich; generous attack of bright orchard fruits leading to a mineral-driven mid-palate with nuances of honey, toasted baguette and hazelnut, and completed with a long chalky finish. Essentially aristocratic, as always. . ‘18 Bouchard Corton-Charly was still in its adolescence with a flinty touch of lemon, lime, pear, mango and butterscotch. Superb balance showcasing the grand cru structure and texture. Still youthful and should reach its full potential in the next 5-8 years. . Even from the bleak era under Servant-Dumas’ ownership, this ‘97 La Violette showed the singular charm of old vines Pomerol with its signature violet aromas, adding blackberry, ripe plum, black cherry, incense and gravel earth. Medium+ body and fully resolved tannins. Best companion to the USDA Prime ribeye. . #ChampagneKrug #GrandeCuvee #168ĂšmeÉdition #Krug168 #Champagne #vintage2018 #DomaineBouchardPereetFils #CortonCharlemagne #vintage1997 #ChateauLaViolette #Pomerol #VignoblesServantDumas #Chardonnay #PinotNoir #Merlot #drinkChampagne #drinkBurgundy #drinkPomerol #steakwines

. Poor man’s Chassagne
. 2022 Jean-Paul Paquet et Fils “Domaine Paquet” Pouilly-FuissĂ© Vieilles Vignes . Medium golden yellow colour; fresh, aromas of ripe tropical fruits, pineapple, pear, hama melon, jasmine and honeysuckle. Palate was rich and complex with good weight and roundness. If drank blind I’d have called it a Chassagne, even a 1er cru given the really fine backbone and structure from the VV. And at less than half the price of any decent village Chassagne blanc on the market this ‘22 Paquet truly was a steal. . Gold medalist
. 2009 Domaine Marc Bouthenet Maranges 1er Cru “La FussiĂšre” . I bet you don’t see a lot of medal stickers clung on Burgundy bottles these days but well, this was one of the few exceptions. And for those in the know this “Concours des Burgondia” is not just one of those “critic’s choices” or some global awards judging 20,000 different wines from 50 countries - it is Burgundy’s own regional wine competition focusing on the wines of Bourgogne Franche-ComtĂ© and Beaujolais, held annually at the Bastion des Hospices de Beaune. . The nose of this ‘09 La FussiĂšre was a bit muted upon opening but quickly woke up to exude red berry fruits, sous bois and camphor. Palate was lithe with good acidity and intricate balance - what I love about classic Bungundy. At a great spot now and reassures me again these 1er cru bottlings from fringe appellations are often well worth the salt. I hate to say it but compared to today’s price of many 1er crus this ‘09 was like “dirt cheap” 10 years ago so excellent QPR. . #vintage2009 #DomaineMarcBouthenet #Maranges1erCruLaFussiere #CheillylesMaranges #DomaineBouthenetClerc #PinotNoir #drinkBurgundy #drinkMaranges #GrandVindeBourgogne #everydaywine #affordablewine

Marc Pinto and Louis Mathieu 2020 Les Nargilets. Never had this before. Made with respect to the nature, and from a very small parcel in Aluze, south Burgundy, only around 900 bottles produced. About last night! The 2008 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatiùres stole the show as the best wine I’ve ever tasted. A magical bouquet of white peaches, lemon peel, with hints of buttery fudge and exotic fruits, left a great impression. The Domaine Leflaive is, in my book, the best white Burgundy winemaker. This wine’s remarkable mineral essence underscored its Puligny-Montrachet pedigree. It displayed a great structure and a lingering finish, a true gem reflecting the splendor of the 2008 vintage for Puligny-Montrachet. 2017 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bourgogne (Blanc in case you’re vision impaired) How good is pee why cee em, even at bourgogne level it’s classy yet subtle. With a touch of reduction, smooth lemon, white blossom, and a chalky grip, it unwinds gracefully with time. Impressive tension, lemon fruit, and substantial chalk minerality make it so rewarding. Domaine Derain Saint-Aubin 1er En Remilly #domainederain đŸ‡«đŸ‡· This premier cru Chardonnay is made from vines in the En Remilly lieu dit which lies on the rocky limestone sunny slopes with the shared-soil of Chassagne-Montrachet. Bombastic acidity here in 2020, very calm and balanced even in its young age. Toasted hazelnut, brioche and creamy candied fruit aftertaste with superb texture and length. Absolutely love it. Jean Marc Roulot Meursault Les Vireuils Initially when opened, it was a bit unfortunate, perhaps 2019’s are closing up, and are in a state of hibernation. It picked up over the course of a couple of hours and was enjoyable, although I enjoyed 2020’s a little more. The energy started to show through, lemon zest, white peach, and underlying nuttiness. I wasn’t displeased in the end, although perhaps it would be a great bottle to visit in future.

Wine of the night from a small birthday dinner. 2020 Vincent Dancer Meursault ‘Les Corbins’ Very punchy and intense, struck match, flinty. A decant (in a water jug) for an hour did the job and revealed a super intense experience. Beaming with pear and fig, it was really delicious. Super pleased to have opened it so young.

For some reason, these appellations are seen as the rustic cousin of Gervey-Chambertin. Fixin is a small, predominantly red wine appellation producing a small volume of generally well-regarded wines. Domaine des Comtes Lafon “Genevrieres” 1er Cru Meursault 2012 💣 When Lafon is on they’re as good as any name in white burgundy and 2012 Genevrieres is an absolute banger, seamlessly balanced between richness and elegance and perfectly developed wafting waves of defined fruit, pastry cream, butterscotch and toasted almonds within its layered minerality. . Carpe diem
. 2021 Domaine Poulleau Pùre & Fils Volnay . My first bottle of Domaine Poulleau. Interestingly, both the olfactory and flavour profiles of this Volnay struck me as certain Crus du Beaujolais in a positive way - lovely floral top notes followed by juicy crushed cherry, strawberry, raspberry and baking spices. Pliant on palate with good concentration and fresh acidity. I may have opened this ‘21 too soon but there’s immediate pleasure to be found already. Large volume burgundy producers or "brands" are definitely a thing, at least relatively speaking, typically they aren't my thing. Bouchard is a bit of an exception, certainly in the deep end of the swimming pool. Their older vintages seem stronger than their more recent ones, or perhaps its more accurate to say their winemaking style may have been better suited to the days before global warming truly took hold. Im pretty sure its the highest of the Grand Crus here, lying above Montrachet and being entirely in the commune of Puligny. Legend states it was the parcel given to the Lord's son, a knight (le chevalier), the daughter got Pucelles (the maiden) and his illegitimate offspring received Batard. How quaint. It's some 18 acres, in a big year probably makes 40,000 bottles across all producers. BP has a big plot up here, like 2 and a half acres all in the Southern end . I seem to think their montrachet-cabottes-chevalier sort of run in a continuous streak top to bottom on the slope. They bottle the cabottes on its own, a tad richer. Djp and....someone else have a couple of plots of chevalier smack in the middle of Bouchards run, but whatever.. 97 is somewhat frightening because its during the premox epidemic that afflicted nearly everything in this time. (Not ampeau atmo) Sooooo might be great, might be crap. If the restaurant is cool and takes bad bottles back as they should, why not? Honeysuckle, cooked pear, golden juicy apple deliciousness. Pleased to share with Mrs Ho and some wonderful friends. #pulignyho! #fromtherightside #drinkburgundy #bouchardpere #chevaliermontrachet

Vincent Dauvissat “Les Clos” Grand Cru Chablis, 2013 @noksunyc ✹ 2013 is drinking so well right now while you wait for 12 and 14 to be ready. After a multi hour decant Dauvissat’s 2013 Clos radiates with power and intensity showing tremendous volume, density and layers of exotic fruit, oyster shell minerality, racy lemony acids and a long saline finish. Still many years to go.

. Big Mac wine pairing (part 2)
. - 2009 Williams & Selyem Winery “Hawk Hill Vineyard” Russian River Valley Chardonnay - 2017 Domaine Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet (mine) - 2021 Cantina Puiatti Chardonnay Friuli DOC (mine) . A follow-up session to the last Big Mac-Chablis pairing two years ago (my post of 17/01/2022) - this time we tweaked a little and tried it with three Chardonnays from different regions and vintages to see how they match with the iconic double-decker. . ‘09 Williams Selyem Hawk Hill Vineyard had a rather deep golden straw complexion; aromas of ripe tropical/stone fruits such as citrus, pineapple and apricot complemented with honey, hazelnut and warm buttery notes. Rounded and supple on palate yet the scant acidity was just enough to keep the wine in form. . ‘17 Etienne Sauzet Puligny was medium gold in colour; intense, energetic nose of lemon, pear, jasmine, sesame and a but of matchstick. Mildly toasted in the nose and mineral-laden in the mouth. Kept evolving in the glass; the most complex and balanced of the three at this juncture. . As expected, the ‘21 Cantina Puiatti was the palest, lightest and freshest of the trio with delightful floral aromatics plus lime, green apple and mandarin orange. Racy acidity and cool minerality. Overall the simplest and most linear wine in the lineup. . So which of these Chards would you think went best with the Big Mac? . 2017 Domaine Lucien Jacob Savigny-Lùs-Beaune Rouge . One of my go-to Burgundy villages for easy weekday drinking from which I’d look more for freshness, approachability, food compatibility and good bang for the buck. . Turned out this ‘17 from Domaine Lucien Jacob - an under-the-radar family domaine now run by son Jean-Michel - delivered just what I wanted. Charming nose filled with scents of violet, mixed dark berries, forest floor, mushroom and light spicy notes. Medium body, fresh acidity and savoury minerality. A modest but solid wine offering superb drinking pleasure. Collin x PYCM @bluehillfarm 😍 Ulysse Collin “Les Maillons” RosĂ© de SaignĂ©e 2017 (Disg. 3/21)
Love this vintage for what’s normally a rich, dense and powerful style that almost takes you to Burgundy. The 2017 rendition after 36 months on the lees is particularly elegant, satiny and detailed with layered fruit and minerality and a full bodied, textural palate with great purity and balance. Difficult vintage for Champagne but great for this wine. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey “Grandes Ruchottes” 1er Cru Chassagne-Montrachet 2017
The rare Grandes Ruchottes, a near Grand Cru equivalent, is as stunning as expected in 2017 with immense concentration, infinite minerality and layers of defined fruit with the perfect integrated reduction, toasty vanillin oak and chiseled core of racy acids. This is still incredibly young, even more so than the Caillerets.

Interestingly enough heated debate is occurring on this platform about $100 mixed cases of wine to enable "the purchaser to determine what sort of wine they like" Rumors abound that it's all being done below cost; that the shops are literally losing money to get you these wines (and that's without going into advertisement and shipping) because they believe so strongly in the concept of $8 wine teaching you everything you need to know that the promo value is off the charts. Well friends, lemme tell ya. Being naturally curious I bought one. And then I immediately called them back and ordered this. #not. D'auvenay is a bit of an enigma. Technically it's the name of a hunting cabin, located in the Macon if I'm remembering correctly, currently owned by Lalou Bize-Leroy. They're somewhat famous (for many reasons) for their incredible attention to detail in the fields, miniscule parcels, miniscule yields, and uncompromising quality. Criots is perhaps my personal favorite of the Grand Crus of this region. Sort of weird, I could say bizarre things about tone and tension and more tropical than its neighbor to the north and the like but in reality its because on the occasions I've had it I can recall the surroundings in incredible detail; people, meals, places, things, all of it. Isn't that what its all about? (This was just a random monday with some whole foods crackers. "There are many reasons to drink a great bottle of wine, incredible food is just one of them" ) Recollection... color, darker. Texture, otherworldly. Finish, eternal. (This was some 20 years after the 1992 vintage) it's still something I think about today. Definitely a tad unconventional but they made approximately 128 bottles that year so whatever. Opening one is like singing a song from sing sing whilst sipping on some ginseng . #forthekids #pulignyno #chassagneside #domainedauvenay #criotsbatardmontrachet #drinkburgundy #chardonnayislife

. Top in the game - both the wines and food
 . - NV Champagne Bollinger Special CuvĂ©e Brut - 2004 Champagne AndrĂ© Beaufort Polisy Brut MillĂ©sime (disgorged 01/2022) / - 1996 Louis Latour Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru “Les Demoiselles” / - 2011 Domaine Jean Grivot Chambolle-Musigny “La Combe d’Orveau” (mine) - 2012 Chateau La Conseillante Pomerol / - 1996 Chateau d’Yquem Sauternes (375ml) - 2010 Ballande & MĂ©neret Sauternes (375ml) .
and a serendipity that we all brought French: . ‘04 AndrĂ© Beaufort Polisy smelled and tasted complex and rich with yellow orchard fruits, baked apple, candied lemon and buttered brioche. Fine acidity and mineral sensations. A big step up from the NV. . ‘96 Louis Latour Chevy at prime maturity - good ripeness and concentration but retained good freshness at 28 years of age. Beautiful on the nose with lemon oil, pineapple, jasmine, honey and popcorn. Glossy and elegant with great mid-palate weight. A classy, seductive “demoiselle” fully living up to her name. . Mesmerising bouquet of soft red fruits and florals from my ‘11 Grivot CM Combe d’Orveau - tart cherry, redcurrant, dried roses, sous bois and sweet spices. Abundant acidity, fine extracts and silky tannins. Elegant persistent finish. Village Burg at its best. . PnP, the colour of the ‘12 Conseillante was deep with a purple tinge; the nose still closed while having a tight mouthfeel and grainy tannins. We gave it a good decant trying to coax (or coerce) more out of it but without much success. Surely a tall and powerful wine with great materials and potential but just not ready at this point. . Legend has it that since some years ago when Chateau d’Yquem ceased bottling the no-frills “Sauternes” (as gift to LVMH employees or served at corporate functions) using rejected grapes not meeting the standards for the grand vin, they sold the “sub-quality” wines in bulk to a nĂ©gociant to bottle and distribute instead. And this ‘10 was allegedly one of such anonymous bottling. Well it’s a nice Sauternes in every way but when drunk side-by-side with the ‘96 d’Yquem, it’s simply no comparison to the real royalty of the grand vin, period. .

I will confess to using oven mitts far more frequently for purposes other than heat protection. Such is life. Clos Vougeot is an interesting thing, its a pretty massive vineyard by nearly any standard (125 acres or so? Thats a big wall). There's quite a variance in quality, etc as one would expect from a massive vineyard and dozens of producers. Technically this wine no longer exists, we drank it .. No, it was passed on to Laurent Roumier in 97 or so. Nice plot, high on the slope like halfway down. I think it abuts Grands Echexeaux. Tends to make more elegent, style perhaps with a dab of austerity. 91 itself was a weird vintage, frost/hail/rain, but reds actually fared pretty well and made some great wine. Roumier tends to do that, at least in my opinion. Some twenty years later fully integrated and simply on fire. Infinitely better than the Champy, but significantly more than $35. #plugnyno! #pinotyes #ataleoftwocities #drinkburgundy #closvougeot #georgesroumier #givemepinotorgivemedeath

. Dragon Year wines retrospective (Part 2 of 4)
. - 2000 Domaine Regis Bouvier Fixin Rouge - NV Les Caves Bailly Lapierre Crémant de Bourgogne Rosé Brut . The second Dragon Year bottle I picked was this 2000 Fixin Rouge by Regis Bouvier, which struck me like a Gevrey or MSD with its expressive and deep bouquet of wilted roses, black cherry, red currant, strawberry, sous bois, menthol and smoked meat. Quite rich and robust at 24yo; smooth tannins, medium+ body and superb concentration. Still very much at prime. Excellent QPR. . Bailly Lapierre Crémant Rosé was made from Pinot Noir and Gamay using the traditional method. The wine exhibited generous red fruit aromas and flavours, nicely wrapped together by fresh acidity and intricate minerality. A sophisticated and well-made co-op crémant I think could well beat some lesser rosé Champagne in blind. . #vintage2000 #DomaineRegisBouvier #Fixin #FixinRouge #Marsannaylacote #LesCavesBaillyLapierre #BaillyLapierre #CremantdeBourgogne #SaintBrisLeVineux PinotNoir #Gamay #drinkBurgundy #drinkFixin #DragonYearWine #DragonYearWinesRetrospective

Definitely an interesting pair. Sine qua non was long a favorite, but recently they've sort of fallen off my radar. I did, and still do, greatly prefer the whites. #tarantella was if I recall their white rhone blend from 1999, roussanne, viognier, chardonnay? Obviously from magnum. It takes a lot to out do some better than village level #Roulot but I really must say it shined brightly that day. Old (like 18 or so?) , aged but not oxidized away, very honeysuckley yummy. I probably wouldn't have waited any more, yadda yadda special occasion, but certainly felt it was at the tail end of its "prime", but I am a fan of well aged wines. #DomaineRoulot 2004 meix chevaux was pretty darn good. Starting to shed some of its baby fat, but was still very bright and acid driven/pronounced. I've always found these to be sort of delicate without undue amounts of age and hitting the timing on opening one correctly. Still a wonderful thing to have, and a clearly different experience than the SQN. Wonder what TJs up to, probably thinking about why oregon isnt in burgundy or some sort of 4d chess kinda crap. #pulignyno #meursaultyes! #rhonerangersyes! #sqnwine #sinequanon #domaineroulot #drinkburgundy #drinkcalifornia

Neglecting to post yesterday, reminding @korktaint that while you may be in a tropical paradise, its a paradise without proper temp control storage, so really what is it?? As far as mass produced stuff goes these guys are probably occupying the top step. Not everywhere, well made wine, and until recently pretty good quality/dollar ratio. Regardless, in this particular instance, Montrachet Grand Cru, they manage to make one of the best efforts from the vineyard. Certainly one of the most consistent, imho. Regal, effortless, refined.. minerality and acidity just consistently rip. This particular bottle was drinking rather well, benefitting from some extraneous oxygen during the caviar course of dinner, whilst consuming champagne. As one does. A wonderful treat indeed. With such perfect storage one can't help but wonder what Krug kept in the window of a tropical bodega tastes like... #pulignyho!! #itsfromthecorrectside #drinkburgundy #montrachetgrandcru #chardonnayislife #bouchardpere #aphotoadaywhilekorktaintisaway

Dinner at the bar? Why not, that's where all the interesting people are. This thing followed me home one night, but I didn't get to keep it. I thiiiiiink this is their second smallest grand cru parcel, i seem to believe they have half a hectare and have difficulty believing they own more Musigny. (They do not in fact). Ruchottes has a rep for being the cool temp high altitude gevrey grand cru thats fairly accurate. I feel that latricieres is cooler in warm years due to its exposition but we're probably splitting hairs at some point. Roumier always has a near signature perfume thats clearly present here; aromatically just wonderful aromas of dark flowers and crushed fresh berries. Still amazingly fresh, and vibrant with little hints of secondary notes, one has to almost wonder how many more years are required for such flavours to emerge. (Note, time machine used for this photo from 2019..a time when @korktaint was exclusively drinking 19% abv aussie chardonnay) Roumier has always rewarded patience it seems. Occasion for this event, apparently "Thursday", because why not. Squab on the menu, its difficult to go wrong. Again a no- corkage-for-pulignyho-policy because sommeliers like Roumier that costs as much as a small car. Ooopsies. Recently uncovered photographic evidence suggests my earlier claims of Haut Brion, Marquis Laguiche, and truffles from Alba were unfounded. I hate when I mix up my montrachet dinners thank god I'm not a millennial, that would never fly. Behold Fredrik, the refugee from Alba, immediately flown to our favorite no-trufflage-for-pulignyho-policy restaurant to be lovingly tucked in on a bed of risotto maintained at food safe conditions to be later eviscerated and consumed with these two. Dubreil-Fontaine may still be making wine, I seem to think this was their most esteemed offering way back when, 1999 vintage. According to notes still young, my feeling is Corton is sort of like Pommard at times, kinda rustic and wild, with a bunch more lift and again some more refinement to its rough edges. The Marquis de Laguiche is most definitely still making wine. This particular offering was from the 1986 vintage, perhaps a teensy little piece of heaven deposited in Beaune by the gods. Still somewhat vibrant, over 30 years on and starting its downward decline, but with all the wonderful savoury notes you'd expect from well aged white burgundy. We had a ....6 course meal designed around the total obliviation of Fredrik which was a ..4 or 5 hour affair. Again this was a return to the scene of the crime to utilize our favorite no- corkage-for-pulignyho-policy restaurant, which to be clear translates into obnoxious gratuity, and absolutely zero time frame because you only get to be the dumbass that brings his own wine and truffles, you can't also be the dumbass that makes ridiculous demands and is cheap. Wonder if that island bodega gets truffles from Alba? #pulignyho !! #itsfromthecorrectside #drinkburgundy #montrachetgrandcru #marquisdelaguiche #cortonbressandes #aphotoadaywhilekorktaintsaway

Sometimes things are not as they seem. Like a tropical island paradise, being circled by a tall man in a canoe holding binoculars. I forget when Henri Jayer stopped making the wine for the Camuzet family, them determining his years of labor for converting a sun choke farm that looks down on la tache into one of the greatest vineyards in the world being fulfilled, but im really certain it was after 99. There was a time when such stories were not as well known and as a result one could purchase the other bottling for a lot less money which is precisely how it ended up here. Now everything is expensive because nepo babies discovered wine. The thing I remember most about this is How it just reminded me of preparing a freshly cooked tomato dish. It didn't really taste like that, but the whole package just reminded me of it with like laser sharp focus. Wine is weird like that. Its also delicious with lamb. #pulignyno #vosneyes #pinotnoir #drinkburgundy #crosparantoux #henrijayer #aphotoadaywhilekorktaintsaway

Richebourg. Burritos. On a cursory inspection this seems to make little or no sense. On a lengthy inspection this would still seem to make little or no sense. "Why?" You might be asking yourself, "why a take out burrito and not some sort of emulsified frond reduction blown over the steam of freshly roasted chamomile leaves served on a gilded plate by a tattooed hipster fueled solely by Monster Energy tall boys. "Why?" For the same reason we do practically everything. Because we fuc$ing can, thats why. MMs plot of this fabled GC is pretty decent, 3rd of a ha off memory. Hand harvested, old vines, new oak, yadda yadda yadda. They've a bit of a rep for being inconsistent with it, thus the burrito, lovingly made by my favorite Latinas next door to a gas station. (Utterly consistent). The juxtaposition of this always surprises me, nose masculine, palette feminine, color aged, structure youthful, thus burritos. Emphasis on the juxtaposition. Acidity off the charts, and the color really blows my mind. Its truly almost fluorescent; it glows somehow from within and is completely compelling. Remember kids, there are many reasons to drink a great bottle of wine, incredible food is just one of them. Do yourself a favour, skip the rice, get quinoa instead. #pulignyno #drinkburgundy #vosneyes #mongaardmugneret #richebourg #grandcru #burrito #pinotnoir #apictureadaywhilekorktaintisaway

1. It's good to have friends 2. I hate when I drip spackle on my Musigny. What else is there really to say? Reasonable efforts from this vineyard are pretty good, and exceptional efforts from this vineyard are like a Klaxon going off next to your head as you dream of sugar plums. Domaine Leroy's effort is certainly in the latter category. By my recollection she has four plots here, two smack dab in the middle of the Vogué acreage (who are by far the majority shareholders here) and a couple other non continuous plots towards the other side. They've always impressed me with their Domaine efforts, (which isn't to imply the Maison wines aren't fine, they are) with just an absolutely ridiculous attention to detail and an innovative approach to viticulture that is now becoming adopted by many other producers. 1999 some 20 years on is still an infant. Not backward or unpleasant but still so incredibly primary, fresh, and vibrant. I know, Musigny! But still, perhaps both a testament to their winemaking and the vintage. Massively perfumed with just layer upon layer of spice and beautifully dark fruits. Much like the aforementioned La Tache, just an incredible sense of refinement and elegance; the tannins at this point were like someone spray painting silk in your mouth. Even though prices have recently risen to stratospheric levels I was chuckling at the time and noting that we probably just drank what was a reasonable car, certainly this cost more than either of our daily drivers. I realize now that this is worth as much as a house in some places. C'est la vie Not as much as the house @korktaint is trying to peer into over a hedgerow. But still. #therecanonlybeone #domaineleroy #pulignyno #musigny #grandcru #drinkburgundy #dryjanuarywhatnow #aphotoadaywhilekorktaintsaway

Since my dear friends are away visiting a sub tropical paradise creating memories, and I wisely chose to vacation on Hoth to celebrate dry January, another trip down memory lane seems appropriate. Of their offerings this has really always been my favorite. (A more bougie statement has rarely been uttered) Not their strongest effort this year, but still a wonderfully hedonistic treat. My notes indicated super earthy, tertiary type flavors much more prevalent on the nose than the palette, still bright acidity, crushed spices and forest floor sort of stuff. But still polished, which was really the most remarkable thing some 70 years later. Good fun, great thanks to the oem edition of our favorite restaurant for their no- corkage-for-pulignyho-policy, mostly earned through finishing desert on nights like this with som and chef in the dining room clutching a glass of burgundy that came from who knows where. Good fun. Probably not as much fun as circling an island of ill repute in a boat and gawking, but that's a story for @korktaint to tell. #pulignyno #drinkburgundy #vosnegrandcruyes #domainedelaromanéeconti #latache #apictureadaywhilecorktaintsaway

Jean-Claude Ramonet “Les Ruchottes” 1er Cru Chassagne-Montrachet, 2017 @oriolechi Unsurprisingly 2014 and 2017 are two of my absolute favorite recent vintages from Ramonet and 17 is simply stunning tonight, rich, powerful, yet focused and incisive wafting from the glass showing all the signatures, rich and defined orchard fruit, spearmint, toasted almond and white flowers. The palate is expansive with immense concentration, a satiny texture and chiseled minerality. A simply complete white burgundy and one of Grand Cru quality. Amazing wine. đŸ™ŒđŸ»

It's Leflaive..... but it's 83! It's being poured by DJ.....but it's a mag! Life is sometimes full of bizarre dichotomies it seems. It's great to be able to taste well aged white burgundy, i have conversations with @wgfkelley every once in a while to ascertain if such things will even be possible in 40 years with the current crop of wines and climate we are stuck with. Lying in the north of the MĂąconnais between Tournus and MĂącon, VirĂ©-ClessĂ© is one of Burgundy’s newest appellations. It was formed to bring together the villages of VirĂ© and ClessĂ© which until 1999 bottled their wines as MĂącon-ClessĂ© and MĂącon-VirĂ©. The Chardonnay of VirĂ©-ClessĂ© is distinctly different from the appellations further to the south such as Pouilly-FuissĂ© and Saint-VĂ©ran. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey “Poruzots” 1er Cru Meursault 2011 @atomixnyc Love this vintage for PYCM. Unlike the far too often advanced 2010, 2011 is incredibly youthful, vibrant and to be incredibly long lived, and tonight it’s gorgeous after a lengthy decant wafting layers of yellow fruit, toast, marzipan and pastry cream. The palate gains in richness, weight and texture with air and shows beautiful fruit purity, elegance and minerality which gives way to a long, racy finale. Love PYCM ✹
