ANGO - THREE MONTH PRACTICE PERIOD (Crestone Mountain Zen Center) ___________________________________________________________ Can you imagine traveling half around the world in order to spend three month basically in isolation, disconnected from the outside world, with nothing to follow but a rigorous daily schedule? Would you be ready/willing to wake up at 4am in the morning, to embrace a daily routine, that consists of alternating periods of meditation and work, only interrupted by three formally conducted meals (Oryoki), as well as lectures? _ Well, not sure if those who showed up, including myself, were ready to do so? But we gave ourselves to live the communal, monastic zen life throughout the harsh conditions of a Colorado winter. We worked hard, we meditated a lot, slept less than we would have liked to. And yet the overall setting of the Sangha, the monastery, provided everything one needed. Once all initial resistance, thoughts of complaint and desire for unnecessary comfort or so called ‘freedom’ had subsided, it became apparent, how the monastery really is a worry-free-space. Well I guess it depends on what you bring to the occasion, in terms of identity and unresolved baggage!? Apart from that though, the daily schedule and activities provided the templet for a demanding, yet lovingly warm, well balanced communal life. _ Therefore the described environment became the fertile ground, the appreciated opportunity to deepen one’s personal practice and spiritual understanding. Besides the long hours of Zazen (up to 70 minutes), the lectures, seminars and private discussion with the teacher (Dokusan) rendered more than enough frame work, inspiration and feedback to exercise our spiritual understanding to exhaustion - or enlightenment ;) _ It was a first to me. I remember seeing buddhist monks in Gaya when I was of the same age as Meera....so it was interesting to see her reactions and answer her queries like "see they are watching mobile, unki bhi eyes kharab ho jaegi" and "why are they eating junk food, u tell me not to eat" ....the place was so calm that Mr. husband did not want to come back to his sales world 😄....but all thanks to @aviatorsumitk who rubbed his enthusiasm for road trip on us and drove us all the way from Ranchi to Gangtok and played Naina from Crew on loop on Meera's demand 🤣

Wishing you all καλη δυναμη this Holy Week! We are all preparing for and looking forward to celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Pictured here is a unique depiction of the Resurrection, painted by Theophilos Hatzimihail, a renowned Greek artist born in 1870 and died in 1934. Known now just as “Theophilos”, he lived for many years near Volos, Greece, which is where we were fortunate enough to have seen this wonderful work of art, depicting Christ’s Holy Resurrection (though it is a painting and not strictly an icon) - you can see the women coming to the tomb, the Angel sitting on the tomb proclaiming the good news, and the Roman soldiers falling upon witnessing Christ’s triumph over death. On the second slide, you can see our Holy Icon of the Resurrection as well, which is the more traditional depiction of Christ pulling Adam and Eve from Hades. Also pictured is the back of the Theophilos painting is the Holy Cross of Christ, shown empty, along with the date of the artwork and signature of the artist at the bottom. We were blessed to see this beautiful work of art recently at the Byzantine Museum of Makrinitsa, near Volos, Greece. Such works of faithful devotion are deeply moving and it is inspiring to see that people who lived long ago hold the same feelings for our faith that we all do in the modern day. ☄️ cinquième (et dernier) jour aux météores ☄️ C’est mon dernier jour aux météores avant de repartir pour Athènes et prendre mon vol pour Paris et retrouver la tonne de boulot qui m’attend ! Car, au bout de cinq jour parmi les rochers, même si le lieux est magnifique, magique et magnétique, je crois bien avoir fait le tour 😅 Ayant déjà visité les six monastères perchés sur leur gigantesque rocher les premiers jours, je me suis baladée ce matin dans les hauteur pour visiter ce rocher tout fin au milieu des malabars (dont je ne me rappelle plus le nom). Quand je suis arrivée, il y avait déjà des alpinistes en train de l’escalader. L’après-midi, je me suis rendue au musée de la formation géologique des météores, histoire de bien rester dans le thème ⛰️💎🪨 :) Une ancienne grotte préhistorique pas très loin me donnait envie de la visiter mais elle semble fermée au public actuellement. Qui sait? Ce sera peut être pour une prochaine fois ! ☺️

He is recognized as one of the pioneers of ethnomusicology. Orphaned at a young age, Komitas was taken to Etchmiadzin, Armenia's religious center, where he received education at the Gevorgian Seminary. Following his ordination as vardapet (celibate priest) in 1895, he studied music at the Frederick William University in Berlin. He thereafter "used his Western training to build a national tradition".
