Recently I’ve heard people say that being able to read someone is a neurodivergent trait. Some say it’s part of pattern recognition, and some say it’s reading their aura. I really have no idea, but it reminds me of this quote on my tea bag, and tonight’s Behavior Bite— 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘆𝗲. Is it the heart, or the brain, or is it something else? I’ve tried to write a caption a few times, but it turns into a rambling mess with this Behavior Bite. I think it’s because there is no concrete explanation for why some people can read others quickly, and some people struggle. I don’t think we can talk in absolutes. This is where the disconnect happens in the so-called “autism profile.” People mistakenly believe that autistic people don’t have any empathy, but I have found it is also a spectrum. Some individuals can be hyper-empathetic 🙋♀️, and I think it lends itself to being able to better read people. I find that I can read someone and their intentions within the first few minutes, and I know I’m neurodivergent, exact diagnosis is [𝚊𝚜𝚙𝚎𝚌𝚝 𝚖𝚒𝚜𝚜𝚒𝚗𝚐]. I don’t know.. Where are emotions? Maybe it’s the “heart” that sees what is “invisible”—those hidden feelings and emotions. Friendship, love, truthfulness, loyalty, faithfulness and thousands more. Okay I’m going to wrap up now.. does this even make sense ✌️

🌟What are the expectations or rules for students earning tokens? Do they need to follow directions to earn tokens? Would you have your students complete 5 worksheets to earn one token? Token boards should be individualized to the learner, so the rules for earning tokens should be individualized as well. 🌟How frequently will you give your student a token? First, you will have to determine the schedule of reinforcement for the student to receive tokens. All this means is how frequently your student will earn tokens. Does the student require frequent reinforcement? 🌟What happens if the learner does not meet expectations to earn a token? Will you take away tokens for engaging in interfering behaviors? Again, this is at the teachers discretion, but in my opinion, DO NOT do this! If the student engages in interfering behaviors, follow the consequences as listed in the BIP and the student may not earn a token, but if this is the first time your student has used a token economy try not to take one away. 🌟How many tokens will your student need to earn? Again, this should be individualized to the learner (seeing a pattern). Does the student need frequent reinforcement? Or can they work for longer periods of time? Some students may be able to earn up to 10 tokens while others may only be able to earn 3. 🌟What will my student be able to earn (reinforcers)? This should also be individualized to the learner! Everyone has their own preferences, likes, and interests. I absolutely love chocolate and don’t care for stickers.
