Day 29 April is Autism Awareness and Acceptance month. In an effort to spread knowledge and acceptance of something that has affected our family I have started a project; from April 1st to the 30th I will be creating a drawing of an individual with autism. Day 29 Meet Anthony " When my son Anthony was born I fell in love and knew he would be so special and precious to me. He is 7 years old and has been diagnosed with Autism and Cerebral Palsy. None the less, he’s such a happy kid and he loves going to school. He loves his teachers and learning and has learned new ways to move around communicate to do everyday tasks. He’s very innovative. He’s such a bright spirit. Everyone who meets him loves him. He loves being outside and looking at the birds and cars. He also loves books and balls. The swing is his favorite thing at the park. He loves music and always tries to dance. He’s a determined little boy and nothing stops him when he puts his mind to something. He’s so loved and admired. I’m so happy to be on this journey with him." #autismacceptancemonth #autism #autismawarenessmonth #autismawareness #lightitupblue #redinstead #artwork #family #autismmom #autismdad #differnetnotless #painting #pastel #drawing #watercolorpainting #watercolor #autismspeaks #art #portraitpainting #portrait #oilpainting #oil #pen #pencil #charcoal #asd #mentalhealth #worldautismawarenessmonth #worldautismmonth

We had an amazing day celebrating individuals with autism this past Saturday at City Hope! 💙💙 Did you know that 1 in 45 adults in the U.S. have autism? Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Autism looks different for everyone, and each person has a distinct set of strengths and challenges. Those with autism have various ways of communicating and each is uniquely different! “Resilient, capable, adventurous” is how a parent described her child with autism. Another parent described their child with autism as “creative, passionate, imaginative, intelligent and more!”While every person with autism is unique we love celebrating each and every one of them! #awareness #autismlove #autismmom #coffee #coffeeshop #azcoffeeshop #arizonacoffeeshop #azfoodie #arizonafoodie #tempefoodie #scottsdalefoodie #azeats #arizonaeats #azgivebackdays #fu ndraiser #smallbusiness #arizonasmallbusiness Pic credit: @therealistmvp

My birthday was on Friday and we had chocolate cake 🎂 Last night, for the first time ever, Jules (5) asked for cake. She has never been interested in cake before and even usually cries when there’s a cake with candles but I’ll never say no to her asking for a new food, especially when it’s so far outside of her safe food zone To my pleasant surprise , she ate THREE whole bites WITH THE SPOON 🥄 This was a double win in my book because she’s still very much a handsy eater My mom heart was BEAMING 😁🤍🤩 #awinisawin #autismmomdoingthings #autismmom #autism #mom #newfood #goals

If you or someone you know has a child with autism, undoubtedly as a parent, the first question you asked was, “Why?” Specifically, “Is autism genetic?” We now know that there is often a full-on environmental “Perfect Storm” 🌪️brewing for kids struggling with autism, even if genetics plays a role in that whole picture. Parents, read through this post and head to the articles at the link in our bio to learn more about what you may not know to support your child’s diagnosis. #pxdocs // #pediatricchiropractic // Is autism genetic? // #autismmom // #specialneedsmom // #autisminkids // #allergiesinkids // #ADHD // #SPD // #autismawarenessmonth #bellevue #Seattle #pnw

Didn’t have an outfit of the day post last week. (Busy busy busy 👩‍🏫) But a student said on Wednesday we should wear black 🖤 this is my attempt at that! (That same student knows I wear pink on Wednesday and they prefer to only wear black but they did bring a bracelet with pink so that we can “eat lunch together!” (Hopefully you get the reference!) 👚 As you can see my previous yoga qualifications came out when I took the students out into the fresh air for some grounding!! 🧘‍♀️ and rocking out to some Techno Wheels on the Bus!🤣🤣🌈🦄

Honestly I don’t think Jake and I ever thought we’d make it here. Pierce had an INCREDIBLE weekend. Before his new meds our vacations looked like this… Waking up at 2am for the day. Every night. 💀 Running up and down the beach for hours. With no thought for his safety. Lots and lots of frustrated moments when he could not communicate his wants. Which always resulted in very exhausted parents that always wondered why we ever even tried in the first place. We just thought we just wouldn’t be able to vacation like other families could. And that was ok. Well this weekend in Mexico it looked like this… Sleeping not just through the night but later than everyone else. 🙏🏻 Listening and following directions with a smile! Relaxing on the beach and not running away. Was able communicate most needs and self regulate!! It was a dream. I’m just so happy for my guy. And honestly I’m happy for US as a family too! Here’s to making alot more family memories without having to exclude our best guy. 🌅🌮 #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autism #autismmom #autismvacation #autismdiagnosis

One of the hardest things about parenting a child with ADHD is getting your child to do what you ask. ADHD symptoms—trouble paying attention, being impulsive, and being hyperactive—can get in the way of understanding and following instructions. But if your child learns how to overcome or adapt to their symptoms, they can develop the skills needed for success in life. One tip to help your child overcoming ADHD symptoms is to set daily routines. An action becomes a habit through continual reminders and repetition. For example, brushing teeth eventually becomes a habit when you repeatedly remind the child to do it twice a day, such as after breakfast and before going to bed. Write down your daily routines and post them where you will see them often. It will help your child if you use colorful pictures, such as a picture of a toothbrush, to identify routines. #ABA #ABAtherapy #ABAtherapist #BCBA #BCBAtherapist #Autism #AppliedBehaviorAnalysis #AutismHope #AutismSpectrumDisorder #AutismParent #AutismParenting #AutismMom #AutismTherapy #AutismTherapist #AutismSupport #AutismAwareness #ABAjobs #BehaviorTherapy #BehaviorTherapist #BehaviorTherapyJobs #BehaviorIsCommunication #AutismDiagnosis #ParentSupport #SpecialNeeds #NonVerbalAutism

There’s been many times in the last 15 years that I’ve felt alone. Autism, disability, being a single parent, dementia, Parkinson’s. Moments, days, weeks where I’ve felt like nobody is living a life like mine, that no one else understands. At some of my lowest moments I turned to social media, first through reading other people’s experiences, then through sharing my own on here. And I soon realised that I wasn’t ever really alone. That there were so many other people out there living, and going through very similar experiences to my own. And by connecting with them, whether by message, zoom chats, voice notes, coffee mornings or meet ups, I discovered a community of people I never knew I needed. People not too far from me. People on the other side of the world. Distance doesn’t matter. I’ve shared stories on here for around 8 years, and the comments and messages that put the biggest smile on my face are when people tell me they feel less alone because of something I’ve posted. That’s what’s inspired the Never Alone collection. A thank you for all the support you’ve shown me and my boys over the years. For the parents and carers who have felt lonely as they’ve been battling to do all they can to give their kids the best life they can. For the autistic kids and adults who have seen something in Jude and Tommy’s stories, that resonated and made them feel less alone. For anyone, who needs a little reminder now and again that there are others who care, can relate, and want the best for them. Whether it’s for your child, a family member, friend, or even a reminder to ourselves when we need it. All you ever need to do is glance down at your left wrist and you’ll get a little message from us that you’re “Never alone.” ❤️ #neveralone #autismfamily #autismparenting #autismdad #autismmom

NEW EPISODE: ADVOCATING FOR RIGHTFUL INCLUSION IN SCHOOL This week’s podcast features Kim Kredich who has served as a volunteer advocate for hundreds and hundreds of students with disabilities in East Tennessee, working with families to help their children gain rightful, supported inclusion in the general education environment in public schools through the IEP process. She has worked closely with attorneys in Tennessee to promote systemic change and awareness of the rights of people with disabilities. Kim is a wealth of knowledge about inclusion and the law. She knows IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)* as this is all she’s done for the last 20 years. Kim is not an attorney and does not give legal advice, but knows about inclusion in the United States public school system. Kim’s family found DIRFloortime very early on when her son was 2 1/2. She wrote a Floortime song CIRCLES AROUND THE SON over the span of 20 years that was recorded in 2021 when her son, Ben, had come full circle into a life of independent living with supports, having job opportunities, and having attended 4 years of college in the University of Tennessee Future Program, an inclusive, post-secondary opportunity for students with intellectual disabilities and autism. Sadly last summer Ben, at the age of 24, was killed instantly from behind by an impaired driver while walking on a sidewalk towards downtown Knoxville. If you haven’t already, please view the family’s website dedicated to Ben where you can view the recorded live stream of the Celebration of Life and hear the family’s heartfelt descriptions of their life with Ben, which was so influenced by Floortime–especially Kim’s talk, which described the Floortime journey and introduced her Floortime song, Circles around the Son.

Did you know that individuals with autism are four times more likely to develop gastrointestinal issues, and that children with autism are five times more likely to develop feeding problems? Researchers are actively studying the relationship between ASD and GI issues. Common concerns are abdominal pain and bowel issues. Strong preferences for certain foods and avoidance of others may also contribute to stomach upsets and can make it more challenging to ensure that diets includes enough nutrients. One of the ways Halo’s scholarships supports children with autism is by funding nutrition and dietary counseling as well as supplements to help ensure that children on the spectrum are able to meet their nutritional needs while still enjoying their food. 💛 Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8638778/ . . . . . . . . #autism #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autismawarenessmonth #asd #autismmom #autismfamily #autismmomsofig #autismandstomachissues #autismandstomachchallenges #halo #halodanceforautism #halodance4autism #inclusion #acceptance #love #empowerment

Change is hard. Mila has been attending her current school for over two years now. She is happy there. She is safe, content, and thriving. All of this will change in the fall and I’m not sure my heart is ready for it. She will have a new school , new aides, new teachers, new classrooms, new bus driver , and new classmates. Mila loves her routine. She has a hard time coping with change. We have been working with her child psychiatrist to help with this transition. He feels that Mila will have a huge sense of loss with this change. I am nervous how this will impact her. This morning Luke and I met with Mila’s current school team and her new kindergarten team. I have been dreading today. I handed each person Mila’s mission statement for the year. I told them a little bit about her and reminded everyone our goals and purpose of the meeting. During the Kindergarten Transition Meeting I expressed my concerns. I listened to everyone’s thoughts and goals they had for Mila. I felt heard and hopeful that Mila would be set up for success. I truly believe this is possible because of Mila’s preschool teacher. She made sure that we had a plan that worked best to support Mila with this big change. When I got to the car I broke down and cried. Is change hard? Yes. Will the first few weeks of kindergarten be difficult. I’m sure. Will Mila adapt to her new school environment? I hope so. Will Mila be loved and supported at her new school? I hope so. Change is incredibly hard but necessary for growth. I will lean into this uncomfortable new experience. Mila is capable of so much and I know this is for the best. It will be messy and hard for a while but I am excited to see what happens. #autism #autismawareness #autismacceptance #nonspeakingautism #autismgirls #autismfamily #autismmom #disabilityparenting #mettl23 #mettl23gene #raregeneticdisorder #mightymila #kindergarten #schooltransition #specialeducation #change #changeishard #growth

Before finding Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic, Stella was struggling a lot with body awareness, motor control, sleep, digestion, allergies, focus, sensory processing, and even emotional regulation. When a friend recommended they attend the Perfect Storm event, 🌪 Stella’s parents decided to give it a chance, determined to find more answers and help for their beautiful girl. While they had already been committed to many awesome therapies for Stella, they found that pediatric chiropractic was a missing piece of the puzzle that helped her feel and function at her best! Read what her amazing momma has to say! 👇🏼 “Stella’s focus and sensory issues have improved so much. Chiropractic has definitely helped improve her allergies, pooping, and body awareness as well. She loves taking walks and trying new foods, and she will even lie on her stomach and do yoga with me now! 🥹 Also, no more green boogers during allergy season is a huge plus! I will always remember the Perfect Storm event, and Stella’s doctor counting to ten with her before her first adjustment. I knew I chose the right chiropractor and I felt so happy I was taking Stella to a group of doctors that “get it.” I love our PX Doc because they give the parents hope and treat the special needs community with the love and respect they deserve. So often our kids go unnoticed or ignored, but everyone at our PX Doc’s office always says hello to Stella even if she doesn’t say it back...I do notice, and it means a lot to me. You guys have a special place and some wonderful, amazing doctors. I know there are so many different ways to try to help our kids, and chiropractic has been a huge piece for Stella.” Our office just wouldn’t be the same without this sweet girl and It’s been such a blessing to watch Stella grow and thrive into the beautiful young woman that she is today. ❤️ #pxdocs // #pediatricchiropractic // Is autism genetic? // #autismmom // #specialneedsmom // #autisminkids // #allergiesinkids // #ADHD // #SPD // #autismawarenessmonth

Artie is the middle child of 3. Our youngest boy is Arlo, who turned 2 in March. Artie is autistic, and we received his diagnosis at age 3. It was 9 months of being on several waiting lists to get him tested, and I was willing to drive anywhere to get him to get tested... because we needed help, and fast. Genetics are a funny thing. I am far from an expert, but what I do know is neurodivergency can run in the family. Artie has family members that are #neurodivergent & on the autism spectrum. So, I'm not surprised. What I'm really surprised about is we are now going through this whole process again. I didn't think this would happen. Our little Arlo is receiving testing in July because he shows lots of signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder. ♾️ Where does that leave us as parents? We have lots of thoughts & feelings about this... overwhelmed. Exhausted. Scared. Shocked. But let me tell you the other feelings... we feel like we understand Autism so much more now & know that there is HELP, and SUPPORT. We feel certain that God has hand picked these special boys to be ours - for whatever reason, we TRUST that God knows what he's doing, and will carry us through anything that comes our way. We obviously do not have any results yet. Towards the end of July we will have a better idea of how we can help Arlo, with whatever diagnosis he receives. Will you pray for Arlo and our family? We are so grateful for your prayers. 🙏 #autismmom #autismacceptance #autismtesting #neurodiversity

If you're a special needs mama I don't want to miss being able to tell you this: We can be so hard on ourselves as mothers. There's always someone else who seems to be doing more, doing better, and with more patience to give. Regardless of how you feel you're doing as a mom right now, I bet it's better than you think. This Mother’s Day I want to encourage YOU to keep going. Comment “MAMACARD” to receive a free Mother’s Day card in the mail! 💐💕

Does she know she has been fighting her entire life? She fought to get nourishment and to breathe. She continues to fight for comfort, fight for words, and fight for peace within her own body and mind. Does she know she was born into a world that wasn’t built for her? Does she know I will move heaven and earth to find the right tools to give her so she can walk through this world as safely and peacefully as she can? Does she know that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes? Does she know how deeply she has been loved by so many in her life? Loved by certain teachers, paras, and therapists that went above and beyond to create goals for success and strategies to work through some of her hardest days and moments Love by grandparents that have learned and do as much as they can to help her feel comfortable at home. Loved by siblings fiercely and unconditionally. They stepped up to teach, advocate for, care for, and protect her at all costs. Loved by parents that would give up everything to make sure she has what she needs on a daily basis. Parents that will care for her the rest of their days. Parents that will try to have the best possible plan in place for her once they are no longer able to care for her. Parents that are so proud of the warrior she is because she works hard every single day on things others don’t even have to think about. Does she know I will continue to stand right beside her in this fight? I will advocate as hard as I can. I will advocate for her to be seen, advocate for her to be heard, advocate for assistance, advocate for her health, advocate for her dignity, and advocate for her safety. Does she know? Have I done enough? Have I done too much? Does she feel safe? Does she feel loved? Does she know she has been fighting her entire life? #fcvblogsquad #autism #autismfamily #asdmom #autismparents #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismmom #autismlove #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryprocessing #sensory #sensoryfriendly #sensorylearning #specialneeds #specialneedsmom #specialneedsfamily #specialneedsparenting #specialeducation #specialeducationclassroom

When I swipe through autism reels I see many of my brothers and sisters bringing up comments “autism moms” or “autism dads” arguing what these autism influencers are doing is attention seeking behavior and that their autism isn’t real because of these posts. I must ask does your autistic child not want attention? Or is this about what you are going through as their parents? Here is why I post on Instagram and why my fellow aspies do for most part…. We want join the fight for our place in this world…. We want also speak for our brothers and sisters who have higher needs because according to the DSM book we are on same spectrum as your child… let us speak for our own culture. Autism parents deserve their own platform and support….and I and other influencers for most part are here help you understand better. If you were to adopt a child from China and you wanted that child to know his or her heritage would you turn to a Yale scholar or someone who lives it? That Yale scholar had a bias and misses the little nuances of the Chinese culture. The same principal can we apply to the autism culture but still you gaslight my brothers and sisters… please listen and ask questions. Perhaps even let your autistic children watch these reels so they can see someone like them understand and explain what they are going through, that there is nothing wrong with them a different culture than their parents and that’s OK. Just because you’ve never seen an autistic person explain autism doesn’t mean people like me should be discredited. #autism #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autismawarenessmonth #actuallyautistic #autismculture #autismmom #autismdad #autismspectrum #autismcommunity #autismparents #autismfamily #autismsupport #autisminfluencer #autismlife #autistic #autismwarrior #autismstrong #autisticadults #thoughtoftheday #autismadvocate #autismproud #autismpride

The SPOKESMAN 🎤🎙️📢🔔💙🧩 Andres- the words that we have for you will not be enough to describe everything that you have done for @we3mbraceu . To believe that you couldn’t speak at age of 4, with a medical examination that resulted in high functioning autism prediction. With all the constant support from his parents and non stop medical attention he was able to make a major stride in his life. He loves Jordan’s, and calls himself a SNEAKERHEAD 🤣 to be social enough to be proud to be EMBRACE spokesman. We are happy to have a community where you can feel exactly how you need to be! 💙💙💙💙💙💙 you are interested in any sponsorship opportunities or you just want to support our cause. “Why fit in when you were born to stand out!” A classic quote from Dr. Seuss. Everyone is their own individual and we all stand out one way or another. We all have a unique purpose, but have this pressure to “fit in”. It is very common to be concerned with what people think of who we really are and if we do stand out, it’s not what they want to see. We have this fear of being thought of as “odd” and feel “unacceptable”. James certainly stood out. At 15 months old, he was able to identify every letter of the alphabet not only in sequential order, but at random. At 18 months old, he never spoke a word, while his peers were saying at least 15-20 words. By 2 years old, he could identify numbers up to 50. Why is it that my child can be miles ahead of his peers when it comes to identifying letters and numbers, but still cannot speak a word? During the whole process of trying to figure out why James was not speaking, I realized my unique purpose - to see the world through a different lens and help James understand the world around him. Let this quote serve as a reminder that we were born with our own set of traits, talents, and points of view and that we should embrace our own individuality rather than conforming to what is considered “normal”. #autism #autismawareness #autisminclusion #autismempowerment #autismacceptance #autismappreciation #asd #autismparent #autismmom #spectrummom #spectrumparent #fundraiser #golf #golftournament #voice4james #swing4james

I’m so proud of this young buck we have been working on dividing our tasks in small bits and today we got it.. he was able to go task 1. ✅ task 2✅ task 3✅…. Children with autism are so easily distracted and often get things done with a lot repetition. I would encourage you to be consistent with what you are trying to achieve. It is not going to be easy but the child will get it. The word of the game is routine & repetition. I’m a autism mom! #autismacceptance #autismfamily #autismmom #ASD #autismawareness
