One kiss ✨ For years, I’d say things like that’s a ‘broken’ friendship, relationship, marriage, etc.. til’ I realized that it’s not broken, it just doesn’t align whether early on or years of trying, it’s not meant to be, or perhaps it’s a matter of growth and outgrowing the things and people we’re conditioned or pushed to think we need and want. I am a firm believer {we can gracefully agree to disagree} that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. The good. The bad. All of it. All are Godincidences. Life happens for us, not to us. And if I am going to wholeheartedly believe in God, Jesus, Divine Universe and have faith in the mess that is life & humanity, then I humbly choose to believe that he places acquaintances, people, family, friends, strangers, community and opportunities in our path and where we need to be — at just the right time. We’re the imperfect chosen children of God. His grace and love is everlasting. His infinite mercy is incomprehensible mercy. Despite my rebel-ish ways, going against the grain, mistakes, trial & errors, sins and what not, I always find peace within as I give my pieces to our higher power without judging myself, my beliefs, my choices and that of those around me. I accept who I am, come as I am, follow my instincts & heart tugs everywhere they lead and just show up. I love hard. I let go & let God. Close your eyes. Think of all the people and things that set your heart & soul on fire and don’t settle for anything less. Nothing lasts forever, we might as well trust the journey in all its chaos and glory. when your vision has you.. let it ♥️ don’t let the human in you, talk you out of the soul in you. one of my many goals as your quinceañera photographer is to enlighten every young girl who has ever dreamed of fairytales — that the first person she is to 𝒇𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 with should be 🅷🅴🆁🆂🅴🅻🅵 & remind her to never lose her sense of wonder, that inner child spark ✨ Ensuring they feel their absolute best during our time together is a big deal for me as it reflects in their expressions and ultimately their images. You wouldn’t even know this doll shed lots of tears (mom & i too) before we started shooting and that we ended up wiping off 80% of her makeup. As much as I wish I would have learned how to love myself more earlier on, all transpires in divine timing. I am now blessed to share my experiences with my kids, our youth, and not just girls, I love chit chatting with boys and digging into their hearts just as much. I embrace connecting with adults too, as we can all learn from one another. Self love has no gender. As a matter of fact, it should be practiced by every human walking on earth. Let your children capture the world through their unique perspective 🤍 Ahhh who remembers this game? Let’s Go Fishin’ 🎣🤗 As parents, we guide and reprimand our children every step of the way. Sometimes to the point of controlling their every move. It’s how many of us are wired. It’s what we think is best. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, if you’re a tough love kind of parent, by all means do you — just that over the years, I’ve realized the difference between tough love & gentle love when finding solutions and working out problems. It’s evident that the gentle approach is a mindful route and definitely my cup of tea. Perhaps not in all cases but in many or even most. That’s one thing I would do different, be gentler with my approach earlier on in motherhood but over the years I learned, unlearned and that’s just how the story goes. ZERO regrets on how my life has transpired thus far from childhood, teenage years, twenties, thirties and start of my forties but whole lotta things I’d do differently if I knew what I know now. We can’t travel back in time but I know in my heart that one of my purposes on earth is to be an educator. So I’ll take the wisdom to date and apply it to my personal life, business world, family, friends, community and across the globe. Why not share what’s worked and what hasn’t? That’s how we help one another evolve in this lifetime. It takes a village to raise children in this messy world. Heck it takes a village to keep ourselves going as adults!! Always curious of how people feel about love, what they claim to love, who they love, and what they say about love, in all it’s forms. Love is grand, all around us, everywhere we look, everything we touch, everyone we exchange energy with. I believe most people are loved more than they realize.. 🤎 We confuse being loved with being understood but they are two different ballgames. Occasionally, loneliness is brought on by being misunderstood rather than being unloved. Love is beautiful and spectacular. But from my experience, being understood is more so, because it is rarer than love. We love quickly but understand so slowly because understanding necessitates solitude, introspection, and paying close attention to every aspect of our being. We do this by digging deep within, reflecting on our inner child, unlearning, learning, letting go, awakening and getting closer to what our heart desires. Understanding another human heart entails a unique empathy for the other being and what they represent in your individual human experience. This empathy is intentional, also carefree and passionate. Being understood is being 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆 to always be you — while love doesn't always offer us that. If we find in somebody, the potential to love and understand us, all in one, we have found an exceptional being. Don't you think? I do. But what we often aren’t told is that that somebody, should first be you. We aren’t robots. It’s essential to chase all those let’s go, unreal feeling kind of moments — every chance we get! Stop apologizing for being who you are ☔️ Rather accept who you are. Whilst evolving into becoming all that you are meant to be. But who is that? Some days, we don't even know. You are human. You are messy. You are imperfect. You make mistakes. You walk around with question marks in your eyes somedays looking for answers in someone or something. But the answers are already inside of you. Oh you are messy but there's a method and a purpose to your madness, and that is a love so large it was never meant to be drawn within the lines. Your flaws, insecurities, imperfect quirks, cracks and laughs are the things that make you so astoundingly, breathtakingly you. You make mistakes perhaps more times than not but there’s something spectacular in the way you don't let it take you down; you get back up every time you fall, you come back wiser, a lot of times happier. And if being a strong yet soft human with a hopeful outlook isn't something worth being unapologetic about — then I don't know what is. Some battles are fought on foreign shores. Art is my soul food, one way I fulfill & recharge my soul 🌞 Since my childhood years, mostly teenage, I knew I had to follow my heart & one sweet day pursue my passion for photography. At times, I wish I would have ventured into this sooner but will forever trust divine timing because I’ve seen the fruit of it so many times! 💫 Every time I think back to things I loved to do as a kid I immediately remember my love for art, coloring, drawing and photography. I would do this as a kid without realizing the self care & calm I was gifting myself. Still remember the smell of art class 😍 I strive to pour positivity, energy and freedom into my art. Being able to express myself through the art of photography, the art of life itself and through picturesque storytelling for others, has been a blessing. Fun fact: I never took a legit photography course with the exception of middle school photography class in the early 90’s, TV Production in high school in the mid 90’s and a workshop or two of creatives joining forces. My love for disposable, film, Polaroid & digital cameras is endless. Along came my DSLR and she had me at HELLO! I knew things were about to take a different route in 2013. And here I am, doing things I wholeheartedly love.. Art, Photography, Educating and still learning as I go because we are forever students in this thing called life. I have always been creative and most importantly incredibly passionate about it ❤️‍🔥 Been in and out this week, as I have been taking care of my mother who was hospitalized but trying my best to stay afloat. What if you treated your brand & business like a great big love affair? 🫶🏽 Like any relationship, it requires to show up as my best self, heal from my past, forgive mistakes, trail & error, poor choices as well as ebb & flow, appreciate good choices, accomplishments, growth — all dancing with one another. We had wrapped up our session and as I gaze around, I get a last minute vision. Things were packed up, I thought it about it twice and on the third time I said Karo, you said you aren’t tired, come with me!! Moral of the story, if it’s on your mind, tugging at your heart, whatever it is.. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! 👏🏽 Can I tell you HOW STOKED I am that not only was I introduced to various secluded spots to shoot at on this gem of a beach, I came across loads of tall grass and insane golden hour sunlight. As a creative photographer, I must admit that simplicity is a beautiful thing and something I have always leaned towards. I used to get so caught up in wanting to make everything perfect, helicoptering my life, the life of those around me and trying to control things I could not control. I woke up one day to the reality that this tactic was not working, and I am constantly reminded that simplicity just works better, for me and those I am blessed to connect & create with. Life can be overwhelming and oh so complicated, but taking a step back and focusing on the simple things can bring us so much joy and peace. Simple moments, like a quiet walk in nature, a warm hug, or a shared meal with loved ones, can bring us back to the present and remind us of what's truly important in life. Fifteen is arguably when you first cross over the threshold into young adulthood. I say, don’t rush it. At all. Believe me, you’ll likely want to relive these years a decade or so from now. Like Taylor Swift said in the lyrics of “Fifteen,” you’ll be looking forward to the next four years of first loves (and heartbreak) and the start of lifelong friends as you navigate your teens. Or the day when someone from school off-handedly said something to you and you took it to heart. Maybe because it didn’t seem much to be worried about but that comment sat in your head for days. Let’s flip it around here: what about focusing not on keeping your mouth shut but actually saying so many valuable things that people smile when they hear and see you. What about focusing on being that person you needed in the crowd, that compliment, that smile or that nod you looked for. I have always felt like this is a natural part of being a human. Unfortunately, all of us forget that from time to time. We get caught up with our lives and problems and feeling like ‘I have it hard enough’ or ‘it is not my responsibility’. Momentum is a powerful thing 🪩🛼 Creating a good life and finding happiness may require a different path than you thought or were conditioned to believe. It’s safe to say that almost everyone has the intention to live well and feel joy from within but so many of our life choices deviate us from those goals and experiencing those moments because we choose to not nurture our needs, put everyone and everything else first and overthink rather than simply go with the flow that is life. It’s like the consciousness of adulthood drives us to stop expressing ourselves in some ways, we become people pleasers, stop doing all things make us laugh & smile, bottle up our thoughts & emotions because of what others may think or say and a lot of times, without realizing it, we become someone that we are not. Bringing out your inner child is necessary and essential to growth, healing, transformation and wellbeing. We spend so much time wishing and thinking about our desires, goals, wants and needs and not enough time designing that lifestyle. At 41, I have NO REGRETS in life but if I could go back in time and see things and life the way that I do now, oh how sweet that would be. One of the best advice I have for our future generation, parents to be, new parents and humans in general is.. DO NOT STOP DOING THE THINGS YOU LOVE. Not when you grow up. Not when you get into a relationship. Not when you become a parent. Take off those blinders. Learn to unlearn. Before we become mothers, we are women ✨ We have aspirations, dreams, desires, needs, passions, purposes, things that drive us forward and things that bring us down. Motherhood is a radical experience. It is an incredibly wild ride, with good days, bad days, easy days, hard days and really strange days. It’s vital that we keep doing things that bring joy to your hearts despite the chaos & responsibilities that come with parenting because that’s how we lose ourselves, our inner child, our spark! Never feel guilty about missing who you used to be. The era before kids is one piece of you, and all the pieces you’ve experienced and have yet to experience, will fit together to tell your whole story. Some journeys are meant to be navigated by you and only you. That inner self love walk you have to take by yourself, it is your road, and yours alone. Others may and will likely walk it alongside you, but no one can walk it for you. Sometimes we have to realize that somethings and people are not meant to stay in our lives, but rather just pass. When you have a vision in your heart, despite what anyone believes.. honor your feelings ♥️ Life has all these twists & turns so we must find ways to get through the hurdles by identifying the problem but focusing and giving power & energy to solutions. I’ll share a little bit about this day because it still brings tears to my eyes and big smile too! This beauty of a girl is as simple as can be. Something I resonate with as simplicity speaks to my heart. I’ve always believed there’s so much beauty in the simple things. And sure, I enjoy getting dolled up every so often (at 41 more so lol) but little to no make up is and has always been my jam. That’s what happened here. Makeup artist did an amazing job, she really did. Mom and I thought it looked beautiful but Kaylin wasn’t happy, at all. As a matter of fact, she bursted into tears the moment I talked to her about it. I lost it crying and said let’s take this makeup off ! Long story short, wiped all the foundation from her beautiful flawless skin, kept her eye and lip makeup in tact, and we all walked out of @spanishmonastery with endless smiles on our faces. As parents we often think “our creations are only little for so long” so we tend to prioritize them and do all things imaginable to make them happy. That’s totally true and fair but sometimes (many times) without realizing it, we in turn push ourselves further away from our own inner being & our significant other. We kinda lose ourselves in the midst of chaos rather than embrace it. Accepting the chaos of life is better than trying to fight it. I find that going with the flow is just more fun and a lot less stressful. Since we can’t predict the future and no one knows what will happen tomorrow, it’s safe to say there is no right path; just the one we are on. Besides chaos is transformative and can be a beautiful thing. Give your person a tight hug, passionate kisses, show affection, acknowledge their love language, communicate your feelings, be adventurous, stay open minded, go on dates, do spontaneous things, try something new, match their effort, stop living old stories, deepen & strengthen your connection and intimacy by keeping the flame alive & burning. Natural beauty🌹 It’s cliche to say that nature heals, but it’s also backed by science & studies.. yet a big part of society lacks speaking of its powers. Ever wonder why? I briefly read about a study stating hospital gardens have shown to increase healing time after surgery — also improvements in immune, cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems. It is safe to say nature provides many wellness benefits to our health. Even if you’re not an “outdoorsy” person, make it a point to go outside in a more rural setting more often. Take a bike ride to a botanical garden in your area, spend the day exploring. Visit a local farm such as @theberryfarms. Book your next travel adventure or simply go to the park and do all things nature inspired with your kids, family and friends. Focus your senses of sight, sound, smell, taste and touch on natural surroundings. And the most vital of all, BREATHE. Deep breaths in and out. Ground yourself into the present moment. One moment you’re smiling, the other you’re sobbing. What’s vital in this emotional rollercoaster of a healing journey is to be present, find joy in the in between moments and in the sweet memories. Rather than focus on the not so good, focus on the good. When you focus on positive emotions and thoughts, you feel better. But it’s ok to cry, to scream. Believe me, in spite of what’s in our hearts, this is ALL we have left. 👗 Wear something you’re comfortable in — The more comfortable you are, the better. Take my word, you don’t have to buy a new outfit. Dig in your closet, pretty sure you’ll find lots to work with. And you save 🤑 💋 H&MUA — You can if you’d like but don’t have to hire pro hair & makeup. Although many choose to book an artist who will beautify them [all for it], I am here to tell you not to stress if you can’t or if you waited last minute. Wash your hair, style it, put some foundation/powder, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick/lipgloss and let’s go! 🫂 PDA [public displays of affection] — I do my best to help you shake off any nervous emotion you may have. Human connection & intertwining is key, no matter what kind of session it may be. I don’t want your gallery to only consist of smiling faces & traditional posed portraits. I thrive on details, diversity & editorial kind of pictures because that’s where we will feel all the feels. 🌞 Scene + Time — Don’t be afraid to incorporate your favorite things and foods. Location matters if you have a specific look in mind but I assure you.. I can shoot ANYWHERE. I mean that. It could be along your neighborhood sidewalk. Unless there’s a downpour, nothing interferes with the creative heart & vision God blessed me with. It is like joining a club where most seek to instinctively understand sleep deprivation and the seasons of parenting. What a woman learns after being included in this ‘posse’ is that though moms share common experiences that allow them to bond and build relationships, they are also very different. Commonality of Motherhood is often enough to help a helicopter mom and a free-range mom create a solid friendship, though they disagree on just about every aspect of parenting.
