At the start of 2019, I’d have never taken this picture. I always thought girls who took mirror selfies were vain, and well, that wasn’t me. I wanted others to focus on my mind, my wit, and my charisma, not on my body. But since taking this stage I have pushed this body further than I ever thought possible. I have used this body to inspire others to be better versions of themselves, and through this act of service, I have actually become a better version of myself, and that is something to be celebrated. My body is beautiful, and should be celebrated. Now at the end of 2019, this picture symbolizes this change I am exploring in myself: to celebrate my beauty in all its forms. Im far from good at remembering to practice that, however I remind myself of what I always say in my classes: it is not about perfection. It is about being just a little bit better today than you were yesterday. Growth is our mandate, and in 2019 I have grown in ways I never anticipated. 2020 is around the corner, and while we all want to focus on the new things we want to accomplish, or the things we want to stop doing, let’s not forget all of the lessons and habits we want to bring with us into the new year.
