Here’s the truth about weight fluctuations and how to not let them drive you crazy! They are normal!🙌🏻 Fluctuation of 2-10lbs in a day depending on your body size is NORMAL! 🤯 Yes, you are likely going to weigh more at the end of the day versus in the morning. It makes sense! There’s many factors that affect your weight: hydration, inflammation, urination/deification status, body fat gain/loss, and hormones. Doing a hard workout doesn’t automatically mean you lose body fat and eating a little more than normal in a day doesn’t mean you gained body fat. 💯 • fluctuations are normal• These two pics are me at my leanest since high school age a whole year ago and closest to my heaviest just this month! 😳🤯 What happened?? Changes in activity to meet the needs of current goals and calorie intake. Not much else about my non exercise activity, sleep, or hydration changes during this time. How can I be okay with this much of a fluctuation? 1) My self worth isn’t tied to how much I weight. No crazy weight loss transformation pictures here going from 25 stone to 16 stone, I personally see that as easy work, it’s actually harder to maintain that unnatural weight than it is to lose it. Now going from 90kg, 8-10% body fat to 80kg 5-6% body fat is not easy. Weight loss transformations are always inspiring whatever your age or size, I respect all that find the will and self love to do it. 👏🏽 Circumstantial of course but in most cases I will always respect the people that do the work all year round, 24/7 365 as it shows discipline and a consistency of self love & respect. Elite athletes stay in great shape when they are active because they are getting paid to do so, but most them fall off when they retire. 🤔 How much of a caloric surplus? 'Bulking' is a bodybuilding term that explains the muscle-gaining phase. Bulking is when you consume more calories than your body needs over 4–6 months. The surplus in calories provides your body with the necessary energy to increase muscle size & strength in combination with weight training 🏋🏽‍♂️🏋️‍♀️. Unfortunately, body fat accumulates during the bulk phase due to excess calories 😬. However, we encourage you to embrace the bulk for those with a primary goal of building muscle & strength 😁. Some of you are thinking, why can't I lose fat and gain muscle? Excellent question & one we will address later 👍🏽. So, how many extra calories should you eat in a muscle-gaining phase? Experts agree that eating 10–20% above your maintenance calorie needs for an average weight gain of 0.25–0.5% of your body weight per week (Source: PMID: 31247944). If you are a novice (less than 2 years of training), we recommend starting towards the higher end of this calorie range for the best muscle size & strength growth. 🤔 What about macronutrient ratios? 🔹 45–60% of your calories from carbs 🔹 30–35% of your calories from protein 🔹 15–30% of your calories from fat (Source: PMID: 15107010). But how do you know when you should 'cut' or bulk? For men, if you are 20% body fat & under, your hormone levels will likely support a productive bulk. The same is true for women under 30% body fat. You might be thinking 💭, "Why can't I lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously?" Simply put ...fat loss and muscle growth are opposite demands for the body. 👉🏽 Trying to burn fuel and build tissue simultaneously for most is inefficient. The other reason is that the re-comp (lose body fat + build muscle) lifestyle is VERY demanding and less sustainable overall. On the flip side, dedicated cutting and bulking phases are more sustainable and lead to predictable progress 😎. What has your experience been with re-comping 💭?
