Starting off the day with this excellent copy of #blackmarketclash from @the_clash, one of my #recordstoreday2024 scores found at @tunetowncds. Hearing their cover of “Pressure Drop” for the first time in high school was one of those “life-changing” moments - I didn’t know music could sound like that. Such great emotion in Joe’s vocals, and killer vibe all around. This record, along with the copy of #giveemenoughrope, further my collection of vintage Clash records. On the hunt now for their self-titled and Combat Rock, and, sure, what the heck, Cut the Crap, too! . #theclash
Black Market Clash Epic US poster 1980 Photography Rocco Macaulay Design Columbia in-house 💥THE CLASH POSTER EXHIBITION 1977 - 1985 at PURPOSE OSLO Eckersbergs gt 39 Sunday 12 -16. Last day! This poster is for the release of their first compilation record, which was issued as a 10-inch vinyl with sleeve design by Julian Balme (3). The man in the foreground is Don Letts, walking towards a phalanx of police at the Notting Hill Carnival in 1976. Don was one of the central figures on the punk scene and became a founding member of Big Audio Dynamite. The Clash frequently incorporated martial imagery in their promotional materials - in this case, Soviet bombers and tanks. A trace of the design influence of the Stenberg brothers is for sure reflected in this poster. 40 years ago tonight, The Clash at the Worcester Centrum. This was the Clash “MK. 2” or, as I called it, Clash-Lite, with Joe and Paul joined by three new guys. They were actually pretty good. Small but mighty record (it was released as a 10" at the time for some reason) with the first side mainly 3 chord bangers like #cheat #theprisoner #cityofthedead and #capitalradio but also covers of #reggae classic #pressuredrop and Booker T & The MG's #timeistight. Side two gets real interesting with #bankrobberrobberdub #armagideontime (another reggae cover) and best of all, an extended #dub mix of that track called #justicetonightkickitover which is one of the best things they ever did. The Clash from 1979-81 were untouchable, releasing double album #londoncalling, triple album #sandinista, this record and the groundbreaking #radioclash 12" single all in about 18 months. During that time they touched on just about every style of #music (not always successfully) and were truly #theonlybandthatmatters before succumbing to drug abuse (drummer #topperheadon) and infighting ( #mickjones getting kicked out) after #combatrock, their most commercially successful album. #80s #punk #joestrummer #paulsimonon

So it hit me today that I didn't share this white whale album yet! I thought I did and when I looked in my feed I hadn't. Got some the same collection I found the MC5 High Time in, this is The Clash with Black Market Clash. Released as a stop gap between London Calling and Sandinista! this was only released in Canada and the US containing songs not released States side except on imports. Songs like "Pressure Drop", "City of the Dead", "Armagideon Time", "Cheat" and "Bankrobber/Robber Dub" are some of the band's best. Basically, with this, my vintage Clash collection is complete. Don Letts filmed a video for the song, where the band roadies Baker and Johnny Green performed a bank heist in Lewisham.
