Did you know that a tribute to Sharon Tate featured in the very first issue of Andy Warhol's Interview magazine in 1969? Gerard Malanga, long time friend and collaborator of Warhol, wrote the piece entitled "The Permanence of Sharon Tate", which reads: "In the twentieth century sudden death through accident, adventure or premeditated violence, often taking the young and innocent, is so frequent and so widely broadcast that few can avoid a certain sombre impact to it all. Automobile, airplane and railway take so heavy a toll that you can hardly escape the feeling that it may be your turn next. And there is always the danger, whether you are a fighter or a non-conformist, that the far-flung ferocities of modern war will claim you as a victim. Sharon Tate was no victim of war but of murder by circumstance. The only permanent documentation of Sharon Tate that survives are the movies and photographs. It is all but impossible to imagine disembodied personality. When we are thinking of absent persons whether they are dead or alive, we invariably visualise their natural forms, their bodies through which alone we have known them and been aware of their personalities. Pictures are our favourite and most vivid reminders. The workings of association are so strong that for a time at least we tend towards identifying a dead person with its body. We do not like to think of their bodies being mutilated, dissected, or resting in a noisy, strange or unbeautiful place. Thus, is the modern world, little else remains for the poet to do but to function as the benevolent purveyor of man's mortality. In Sharon Tate's memory I present the following poem: (see slide 3). Perhaps the beautiful people, like everyone else, will be subject to fatal accidents. But with this qualification it is conceivable that human beings might ultimately learn how not to die. Sharon Tate enjoyed her life to the utmost while it lasted and contributed a high and joyous quality to the life of others. I can't emphasize how beautiful she was - inside and out. Sharon was well educated and impressed people with her honesty. She had the greatest attributes a person can have. Sharon never changed from the time she arrived in Hollywood until the day she left us. Sharon was under contract to me from the first picture she made until her last. Sharon worked very hard, she studied her acting to excel as an actress and she did. Her film performances that she left us and the entertainment that they have brought and continue to bring merit Sharon Tate to receive a star on Hollywood Boulevard and I support her all the way!" (Hal Gefsky was Sharon's agent. The following comments are from an interview Hal did for E! THS - The Last Days of Sharon Tate) "She was very honest. Of course, she was knock out beautiful. And she was really down to earth and nice to everybody. You couldn't help but be impressed. I thought she would do great. She'd come home with a stack of cards from all the guys in town." December 7, 2001 -- Los Angeles, California Sharon Tate was honored with "The Bronze Halo" and "The Golden Halo" Awards from The Southern California Motion Picture Council. The Awards are for "The Highest Achievement in The Film and Televison Industry" and was given to Sharon by her peers. Debra Tate accepted on her sister's behalf. Hal Gefsky was Sharon's agent. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Quentin Tarantino was reportedly planning on bringing back iconic characters from his past movies for his (now cancelled) final film, “The Movie Critic”. Per the report, Tarantino was playing with two different ideas to bring back his past characters. Mr. Quentin Tarantino isn't exactly one to keep his promises regarding his future projects. I still remember the string of pseudo-exploits he threatened us with around the "Kill Bill" and "Death Proof" years, which I'm so glad he never did. Between remakes of “Faster Pussycat Kill Kill” with Britney Spears and badly dubbed kung fu movies, he came this close to becoming another Robert Rodriguez, like one wasn't enough. And that's not to mention "The Vega Brothers" or (shudder) "Kill Bill 3". But still, his abrupt decision to drop "The Critic" (which, against all odds, wasn't going to be a biopic of either Pauline Kael or Jay Sherman) has come as a surprise... even if I wasn't completely thrilled with this project. For me, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is Tarantino's masterpiece, the greatest film he has ever directed, but I'd say he's become too enamored with that film's universe. The novel was a mistake, and to return with his immediately subsequent project to the same moment in cinema history strikes me as an unoriginal and disappointing idea. But who knows, he once announced that he was abandoning "The Hateful Eight". Being a huge fan of the ‘Terrifier’ franchise and the stacked cast of horror legends, I’m all in. First look at ‘Stream’ arriving in theaters on August 21st. The film was written/directed by Michael Leavy was a producer/actor/assistant director on ‘Terrifier 2’. Damien Leone, who has directed every entry in the ‘Terrifier’ franchise is a producer and did the special effects just like he does on those films. The film follows the Keenan family, who’s simple weekend getaway truly turns into a vacation to die for, as four deranged killers playing a sadistic game lock down their hotel and compete for the most creative murders of all the guests. . . ‘Blood for Dust’ is a very old school gritty crime thriller that’s very bleak and depressing in an unflinching manner. It’s the type of flick I’m a sucker for despite not bringing anything new to the table. Growing up watching crime films with my brothers, they put me on to crime films at such a young age that I just love being in this underground world of filth, drug dealing and violence. The film follows traveling salesman Cliff, who is drowning under the weight of providing for his family and finds himself on a dangerous path after a chance encounter with a colleague who has a dark past. Desperate to keep his fragile home life intact, Cliff agrees to partner with Ricky and run cocaine across Montana. This was directed by documentarian Rod Blackhurst, and I feel that background helped in the sense that he really captured the real life vibes of the Midwest. He doesn’t hold back when it comes to the violence, this is a brutal film with the finale being an utter delight of what you’d come to expect for this type of film. His direction is strong, especially in the third act, it was an edge of your seat experience. . . He also wrote the script, and I appreciated how focus on characters his screenplay is, that’s always a win for me in these type of flicks. Scoot McNairy is one our most most underrated actors and he’s excellent as Cliff, a man in over his head who reeks of desperation. He carries the film in an easy to root for role, that adds to the intensity as you just want him to survive since he’s out of his element. It’s a very complexed performance and he beautifully captures the beaten down portion of his character. After mostly associating him with hero roles, it was great seeing Kit Harrison as Ricky, a crooked loose cannon who’s the type of character I love in these films even if you know how his story will most likely end. It’s the classic character, who shows the lead how not to act in the situations they are put in since he’s so unhinged in his actions. . CONTINUED IN THE COMMENTS
