Poems from "Beyond Pink and Blue" have been published in various anthologies and journals, and are finally up on my website (available at caiquirk.com/beyond-pink-and-blue). . Beyond Pink and Blue is a series of poems that uses color as the central metaphor to explore experiences of gender in a variety of ways. Some poems play with aspects of gender present in this world and society, examining, actively resisting, or dispelling stereotypes, while others imagine worlds and societies with different ties or connections to gender or related metaphors. . This post shares some of the publications, and all are listed on my website. More will be added as more are published (many places in the poetry world won't publish something if has been shared online before). . #BeyondPinkAndBlue #GenderExploration #PoetryAnthology #ColorMetaphors #BreakingStereotypes #PublishedPoetry #GenderDiversity #PoeticImagination #LiteraryJournals #ExploreGender #PoetryCommunity #CreativeWriting #ReadMorePoetry #AmWriting #PoetsOnInstagram #LGBTQLiterature #QueerPoetry #LiteratureLovers

“We know that there are fewer teachers, not just Black teachers, but teachers in general. But we know that growing up Black in America and growing up Black in American schools have, unfortunately, a lot of similarities.“ - @selmekki Schools are supposed to be melting pots of diversity, right? But hold up – where are all the Black male teachers? Because let’s be real, according to a recent federal survey, Black men make up a measly 1.3% of teachers. That’s a diversity deficit, and it needs a solution – ASAP! Black male educators are powerful role models. They break stereotypes, inspire young minds, and bring a unique perspective to the classroom. But something’s keeping them out. So, what’s the deal? Our classrooms deserve to reflect the beautiful diversity of our communities. Let’s get to work and close the Black teacher gap! #BlackHistoryMonth #MoreBlackTeachers #RepresentationMatters #BuildingABetterPipeline #SupportOurEducators #SalarySolutions #blackeducators #blackeducation #BreakingStereotypes #AmplifyBlackVoices #blackmaleeducators #blackteschers

🎸👩‍🎤 Breaking Stereotypes: Lita Ford's Guitar Journey! 👩‍🎸🎶 Lita Ford learned to play the guitar in her pre-adolescence. At the age of 11, she received an acoustic guitar from her parents, but soon realized that she actually wanted the "electric version" of the instrument. It didn't take long for her to learn how to play classics by Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. At the age of 16, in 1975, she joined the band Runaways—where she gained prominence. Later, in the early 1980s, she embarked on her solo career. At the time, according to her, many people found it strange to see a woman playing guitar. During an appearance on the podcast "The Hook Rocks," transcribed by Blabbermouth, the musician revealed that the prejudice largely came from men, but it wasn't just them, as it was a societal issue as a whole. Lita stated: "Men are just men. And they're not indestructible. It doesn't mean anything. In many situations, they just can't grasp the obvious. And the problem wasn't just men. A lot of people couldn't understand the fact that: 'Oh, she's a woman and she's playing guitar. How does that work?'." However, the artist was not affected by the situation. Despite not having female role models, she couldn't see why she couldn't simply do what she loved. "Well, to me, that was never really clear. I just thought: 'Well, I just want to play guitar.' And it never occurred to me that I couldn't because I was a woman. It just didn't make sense to me." #litaford #guitarist #breakingstereotypes #womeninmusic #RockMusic #guitarjourney #empowerment 🎸🚺

The use of lipstick in the ad is a symbolic choice that subverts traditional gender roles. Lipstick, often seen as a symbol of femininity, is used here to grab the attention of men and challenge their perceptions. By associating a traditionally feminine product with a message about gender equality in the workplace, the ad breaks down gender stereotypes and encourages viewers to think beyond superficial divisions. Moreover, the ad's placement of the real message in the small print is a clever tactic that rewards attentive viewers. It encourages the audience to look beyond the surface and examine the ad's deeper meaning. This approach mirrors the need for society to look beyond superficial gender differences and recognize the inherent worth and potential of all individuals, regardless of their gender. #LOrealEquality #WeAreAllWorthIt #GenderEquality #EqualityInTheWorkplace #WomenInLeadership #BreakingStereotypes #ChallengeGenderRoles #EmpowerWomen #GenderDiversity

"Ballet is a girly dance — I have heard this so many times ever since the age of eight when I first started ballet. So what? I am proud of it. I remember my first ballet session. The Lewis Foundation of Classical Ballet had come to my school Parikrma Foundation in Bengaluru. At the time, I was one among 64 students in the ballet class. Soon, I was taking extra classes to perfect my moves. The more I danced, the more I loved ballet. And the more I read about it, the more I — along with my grandparents — was convinced that it was an opportunity of a lifetime. But all this time, while I was doing what I loved, I was also being bullied for it. “Ballet is for girls” and “Why not join hip hop” were among the many taunts I heard daily. So I decided to quit, but what my grandparents said to me, changed my mind — “Follow your heart, others will always have something to say.” I decided to work extra hard. Today, I perform across cities alongside dancers I have long admired. My favourite moment is when the curtains are drawn, and the audience, who expected to see girls, sees me. Their claps and cheers are everything. And sometimes, in the crowd, I spot one of the people who once bullied me. They now come to watch a boy performing ballet — what they once joked about! Ballet has shaped my life in the most beautiful of ways. I am glad I never quit and decided to follow my heart." ~ Tejas (@tejas_saraswathi } @lewisfoundationballet #InternationalDanceDay #Dance #Ballet #Inspiring #Motivation #GoodNews #BreakingStereotypes [International Dance Day, Ballet, Artist, Inspiring Story, Breaking Stereotypes]

In India, we seem to believe helping out a new mother means sitting with her baby while she goes about doing chores. Womama here to tell you she knows how to run her damn house, she wants you to help her with chores so she can learn to be a mother. Please? The journey with tarot has been such a beautiful one. As we are entering May, I complete 5 years of being a reader. As usual, I did my first tarot reading as a skeptic, but after that reading , I realised that it helped me find ways to heal from the inside and it helped me with my depression. Fast forward one year, and I finished my certification in tarot reading. It was a struggle to choose tarot reading as a profession after finishing my degree in mechanical engineering. But I knew my heart was in Tarot and in Temple architecture, something I indulge in as well. Took me months to convince my orthodox parents (they finally came round ), was cut off by many family members and friends, was called names and was judged by many. But here I stand strong, the happiest that I have ever been, and today, I’m a proud reader. It was a tough journey, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Tarot isn’t about reading the future , it’s about how it heals one from the inside, makes us accept certain uncomfortable truths and helps us understand how life works. I personally have learnt a lot about myself and am still in the process of becoming a better person. Happy 5 years fam.😍🧿🪬😍🪷 #personaljourney #selflove #proudmoment #milestone #smallbusiness #breakingthenorms #breakingbarriers #breakingstereotypes #aboutme #mystorywithmichelin #humansofpenang #humansofmalaysia #mystory #happynewyear #2024 #teaandtarot #filtercoffee #coffee #thelightseerstarot #tea

Did you have a fight to get it or was your GP helpful? It was a few months after I started to used testosterone that looking back I could see the difference but it was very gradual, it’s definitely given me that clarity of mind, I no longer lose words and for me the loss of joy, that colour drained out of my world also disappeared with the introduction of testosterone The return of my libido was a nice side effect but the difference to my mind was the thing that’s made the most difference and left me feeling like me again #earlymenopause #menopausebrain #brainfood #hormones #hrt #testosterone #cognitivehealth #brainhealth #perimenopause #surgicalmenopause #poi #menopausesymptoms #lowmood #lossofjoy #womenempowerment #womensupportingwomen #portsmouth #gosport #menopausecoach #breakingstereotypes #menopausememe #menopausememes #menopausememory

6275. “I used to have bangs as a kid. I was inspired way too much by the movie to cut hair.” - Paula Smith is all about breaking stereotypes so she was super inspired by @mulan as a kid. So much so that after cutting her own hair into bangs (a big mistake), she convinced her little cousin to let her cut hers as well! - Born and raised in the Philippines, Paula grew up surrounded by her extended family. Her dad passed away when she was 1 month old and her mom worked as a doctor in the Filipino Navy so she was raised largely by her grandparents, aunts and uncle. - “My uncle’s really like business-minded, he’s like a STEM kind of guy. And then my aunt’s more of like the loving, motherly advice. And then my mom’s other sisters kind of taught me how to cook, how to pick out mangoes from the grocery store, how to pick out the correct fish when I’m going shopping so I kind of picked up a little bit of everything from everyone.” - At 12 years old, Paula moved to Los Angeles to be with her mom who’d moved there 4 years prior. However, she maintained the influence of her other guardians. Thanks to her uncle, she studied Computer Science & Math at @csun_edu and now she works as a lead cyber liability engineer! - Beyond work, though, she has a few new important relationships in her life - namely those with her 2 dogs and her husband, Kiethan. Relying heavily on her faith to guide her, Paula met her husband through church friends back in 2019, they got married in 2022 and now they continue to bond over everything from God to @nintendoswitches to @bbcdoctorwho! So great to meet you, @p_rsphne! • How we met: Paula came across my project via @tiktok and then DM’ed me to meet! • Swipe to hear more about how Paula helped her cousin look like Mulan! 💇🏻‍♀️⚔️ • #10kfriends #philly #losangeles #california #bangs #mulan #breakingstereotypes #philippines #family #leadengineer #dogmom #faith #marriage #somegoodnews #robs10kfriends #meetingpeople • Click the link in my bio if you’d like to support me via Patreon! 🙏🏼

💫 It’s time to debunk 3 Common Myths About Women in Retirement 💫 As women navigate the transition into retirement, they often encounter misconceptions that overshadow the richness and diversity of their experiences. Let's debunk three prevalent myths surrounding women in retirement: Myth #1: Women Are Financially Insecure in Retirement Reality: While it's true that women face unique financial challenges, such as wage gaps and interrupted careers due to caregiving responsibilities, many women are actively taking steps to secure their financial futures. From diligent saving and investing to seeking financial advice, women are increasingly proactive in managing their finances during retirement. Myth #2: Retirement Equals Inactivity and Decline Reality: Retirement is far from a time of stagnation; instead, it's an opportunity for women to embrace new passions, pursue lifelong dreams, and contribute meaningfully to society. Many women in retirement are actively engaged in volunteer work, mentoring programs, and community initiatives. Additionally, advancements in healthcare and wellness strategies enable women to maintain vibrant lifestyles well into their retirement years. Myth #3: Women in Retirement Are Socially Isolated Reality: While retirement may entail changes in social dynamics, it by no means equates to isolation. Women in retirement often find themselves connecting with peers through various avenues, such as senior centers, book clubs, fitness classes, and online communities. These social networks provide opportunities for camaraderie, support, and shared experiences, fostering a sense of belonging and fulfillment So let’s recap, it's time to dispel the misconceptions surrounding women in retirement and celebrate the diverse and dynamic lives we lead. Women in retirement are resilient, resourceful, and full of vitality, defying stereotypes and blazing trails of empowerment. Let's challenge outdated narratives and recognize the invaluable contributions women make to their communities, families, and society at large, both during their working years and beyond. 💪🌟 #RetirementRealities #WomenEmpowerment #BreakingStereotypes

Mark Twain reportedly said that “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” I arrived in Indiana with preconceived notions, but I was proven wrong. The people I met were some of the kindest and most welcoming I’ve ever encountered. . From Neil, a Renaissance man who makes the best bread I’ve had in the states (yes, even better than Tartine), to Obi, a young entrepreneur running two successful businesses. The motley crew at the Three Crowns opened their home to complete strangers, reminding me that despite our differences, we’re all still people. Warsaw, IN wasn’t the home I was looking for, but these amazing people made me feel like I had one. . . . #TravelTeachesUs #KindnessMatters #BreakingStereotypes #PhotographyAndTravel

Did you know that women are initiating nearly 70% of divorces? This statistic reflects a shift in societal norms and women's empowerment over time. As women gained economic independence and the ability to control their reproductive choices, they have become more inclined to leave unhappy marriages. DEFY’NE DISCOVERS :{ MOÑOS DE MI NIÑEZ } About: This collaborative project was born from a conversation between crocoqueen and evanellyaguilar, both driven by their desire to connect with their roots, embrace playfulness, and weave stories through hairstyles. They envision a universe that blends various inspirations from their childhoods. In a world often consumed by sacrifices and the relentless pursuit of validation, embracing play and joy becomes essential. It’s a reminder to set aside time to reminisce about the fun of childhood—making friends, dressing up, and engaging in pretend play. This project serves as a gentle nudge, reminding us that regardless of age, we can always embrace playfulness and explore new horizons. It encourages us to nurture and cultivate our curiosity, keeping the spirit of exploration alive. About the artist: “The most powerful muse of all is our inner child. Longing to experience the carefree innocence of childhood again, especially during times of high anxiety, resonates deeply with me. As the oldest child of Mexican immigrants, I began working alongside my parents at the tender age of five. While I loved moving from job to job alongside them, I didn’t fully grasp the challenges my parents faced. Even then, I found ways to contribute, imagining ways to earn extra money by selling my toys and crafting little trinkets. I was always drawn to creativity, particularly anything adorned with pink, lace, or ribbon – anything that looked cute captured my attention. Now, as I create my hair bows, I carry that youthful spirit within me. They serve as a comforting reminder of my younger self, who appreciated and took pride in her creations. Each hair bow feels like a warm hug from that past version of myself, encouraging me to continue pursuing my passion and embracing my individuality.” CREDIT: SHOT BY : @crocoqueen CREATIVE DIRECTION : @crocoqueen @evanellyaguilar MAKE UP : @thirrrsst HAIR BY : @evanellyaguilar STYLED BY : @evanellyaguilar JEWLERY : @s3ndingyoulove MODEL : @bymarina__ @cecilydubon
