O ciuchach słów kilka! W zeszłe urodziny (kwiecień) zamówiłem sobie Zbój wełniany premium 2.0 i Cwaniaka od #idęwlas Minął prawie rok, więc skrzyknąłem kumpli i podzieliliśmy się spostrzeżeniami, robiąc sobie przy tym pamiątkowe zdjęcie. Sam Zbój na wiosnę jest zdecydowanie za ciepły, ale Cwaniaka wziąłem nad nasze morze w wakacje, żeby sprawdzić jego rzeczywistą nieprzemakalność. Miałem nosa, bo w trzecim dniu pobytu była ulewa, jakiej światy nie widziały! Wiecie, rzeki na ulicach, ludzie uciekający w popłochu... No nic, nabyłem w sklepie troche rumu, zająłem wygodną pozycję na ławeczce na plaży. Ja gapiłem się na morze, schowani ludzie w knajpach na mnie. Taka sobie symbioza. Zapomniałem tylko zapiąć środkowej kieszeni i wszystko, co było w środku zginęło śmiercią poprzez zatonięcie, a ja miałem swoją prywatną miseczkę z deszczówką :) Sama kurtka po takiej ulewie od spodu była sucha, jedynie na barkach miałem lekkie już zawilgocenia. Później zima. Oj, nie mogłem się doczekać lepszych mrozów. Przy -19 (odczuwalna) zakładam swój prezent i idę dziarsko przed siebie. Po dwustu metrach zawracam, bo piździ przez kołnierz, że proszę siadać... Zawinąłem na szyję huste taktyczną i powtarzam operację. Było dużo lepiej. Dwie godziny spaceru, później półtorej stania w miejscu, coby mieć jakieś porównanie. Było ok. Nie zmarzłem. Od dołu tylko niemiłosiernie mi ciągnęło, dopóki nie odkryłem, że jedno i drugie ma taki fajny ściągacz, żeby nie wiało... kolejna godzina i jest pysznie. Pod spodem bielizna bundeswery. Nic więcej. Czy kupiłbym drugi raz? Oczywiście. Kurtka dzielnie znosi noszenie drewna na barkach, bluza dobrze grzeje. Mało (a nawet bardzo, właściwie to wcale) jest rzeczy, na które się jakoś mocniej szarpnę, ale te ciuchy są warte swojej ceny! New Year, time to check those kits. If you own a first aid kit, it’s a great idea to inspect them every six months. Inspecting them at the beginning and half way through the year helps keep you up to date on meds, Over The Counter (OTC) meds, equipment, supplies and gloves if they need to be replaced due to expiration or no longer serviceable. Any items considered no longer safe for use such as gauze, tourniquets, etc. can be used for training purposes once replaced. Better to be safe and know before needing it and you can’t use it. These are the three primary kits I take with me on trips, my @maglitetactical Tactical Backpack made by @bdstacticalgear for range training, large events and work for protests, riots and special events where large crowds are formed. I was asked about the methods I use for carrying duct tape and paracord. The left is how I attach a roll of duct tape wrapped around a thick straw or pen and a @atwoodrope paracord donut on an @niteize S-Biner to attach to my backpacks. Center is the traditional duct tape wrapped around a lighter. On the right is my @nalgene wrapped with duct tape and about 30’ of paracord. The methods for carrying it are unlimited. These methods are traditional for making the most of space when packing your gear for a hike, outing or expedition. When people say it’s too cold out for snakes but it’s been warm so you find a couple looking for a warm place to stay as an event is being held. One was taking up residence under a portable shower/toilet pop up and the other near a group of vehicles with pets and children. One found just outside the camp, they were all safely removed and placed far enough away so they could feast on the field mice. Always be aware of your surroundings. Using a @nalgene bottle and some aluminum foil on a rock exposed to the sun will give you a nice relaxing warm or hot bird bath in a reasonable amount of time. UV filtering? UV light is normally effective against all viruses, bacteria and protozoa. However, some microorganisms such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia have protective or thick cell walls that some low power UV light systems are not able to penetrate. was recently asked what’s one tool on my Get Home Bag and Bug Out Bag most people would never think of that they should add. The Silcock water key or commonly called a 4-way water key is a great tool to have in your kits. In the event your vehicle overheats and you find the stores or gas station closed, the water access that you pay for isn't working or you're on foot trying to make it home and don't have enough water to keep you hydrated especially in hot months. Many buildings, parks and transportation facilities have outside water access most people don't notice and usually a valve that requires a square key. The four-way silcock key makes it easier to access water due to potential varience in sizes. Here I had a few managed to acquire four liters of water from the side of a Shoping Center. I used this year's ago when my car overheated and pulled into a closed gas station and the water/air machine was down. Saw the spigot had a square on it instead of a handle wand was able to fill the radiator and go after patching the hose. I learned this technique from a homeless vet many years ago that I befriended. He taught me many things most would never imagine regarding urban survival. Once considered a valuable skill that was passed down from generations of family, military and even the Boy Scouts. The great explorers, the hikers and troops across the world have been navigating land and the seas as early as 3,000BC. A skill that is nearly forgotten in modern society due to GPS on our phones and vehicles, most would be lost if technology or satellites, tech or grid went down with no means of powering it. Land navigation is still a skill to know or even learn. There are classes taught around the world by outdoors companies, hiking groups, military veteran focused classes and private companies that focus on teaching survival related courses. Even beginning to learn the basics through online tutorials, military handbooks etc. can put you in the right direction before taking a class. I learned from a recruiter before joining the Marines and continued from there. It’s helped me more than a few times getting back to camp or a main road and back to the camp ground. Getting ready for @renaissancepleasurefaire in Southern California. Nothing like learning the bow and arrow. I love attending Renaissance era events. The bow is a 43 pound draw hickory long bow. The pouch holds items like wallet, snacks etc. The linen cloth ouch holds a water bottle. The quiver is made of leather and covered with green linen. The hatchet is @coldsteelknives Frontier Hawk, I removed the coating and gave it a vinegar patina for an aged look.
