New (to me) technique alert! I use @chua.cookie perforated mats to bake cookies because they make the cookie so much lighter and it gives a grid-like texture on the bottom. To get the gold textured look on the “50” cookie, I ice the cookie on the bottom-side instead on the top to take advantage of the cool texture. Just days before @frances.haugen ‘s whistleblowing brought Mark Zunkerberger into the US Senate for hearings on safety for kids in 2021, he changed his parent company name of Facebook to Meta. In what was a desperate attempt to divert attention away from the bad publicity of the Senate hearings, he’s now smeared this new company’s face in blood. It has been a bloodbath of CSA over there since. Data is suggesting that Facebook users are going down because Facebook is dying but Instagram is growing. It’s reflected in the number of CSA reports in 2023. Facebook platforms, including WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook Dating, Oculus (Metaverse) and Instagram, have been king of the landscape for CSA reports online. We thought it had plateaued but a 12.75% increase from 2022 says otherwise. Now Zunkerberger wants to suggest that app stores should bear the brunt of verification on his platforms. No word about people using the direct website and how that might work but the stupidity of Meta employees can’t be overstated. Whether it’s a selfish neglect, careless oversight or whatever, the company needs to be erased. Adults shouldn’t have the ability message kids online. Period. Ella got to visit @sloomooinstitute and experience slime for the very first time! Located in River North, this is an immersive and interactive experience for all ages! This is about a 90-minute experience as you go at your own pace. All throughout the museum, there are all kinds of slimes you can play with. Along with slime, there are other sensory places like a kinetic sand room, which was Ella’s favorite! There was also an almost quiet-like room and an interactive virtual dancing room. Another favorite part of the museum that Ella enjoyed was the Sloomoo Pond. Without shoes or socks, one gets to jump into slime. Other fun parts were the sling shot, which is included with your general tickets; for an upgrade, you could also get slimed! Lastly, Ella got to create her very own slime! Included with each ticket, you get to choose the kind of slime texture, scent, color, and charms that you’d like. ($18.00 value) I’d recommend this to all families of all ages, as it is a very sensory-based museum. Ella was able to enjoy pretty much everything, but to get the full experience, I’d say it is best for those 5 years and older. The price ranges from $40.00 to $70.00, depending on the type of ticket. For most of my life, I believed that more was better. I wanted to do more, have more, be more. I spent twenty years running on what felt like a hamster wheel in pursuit of more, expending tons of energy but not feeling like I was getting anywhere. This mentality is prevalent in our culture, and I believe that's why "self-care" is having such a moment. It's an effort to confront the task-masters in our minds. But it's never really worked for me. Carving out the time to take a bath is simultaneously too much and not enough as the antidote to a difficult day. So, I've decided to just do less. Not in the name of self-care but in the name of self-acceptance. When I try to do too much, when I even think about doing too much, everything suffers, including and especially me. Overcommitting myself and setting unreasonably high expectations drains me of my energy and my spark. The self-imposed pressure makes everything feel heavy and burdensome. I avoid things, and then I feel guilty for procrastinating. I beat myself up and wear myself out without ever accomplishing a thing. Then my anxiety gets so bad that I act. But it's never as good as it could be. It's a painful cycle, and I don't want to do that anymore, so I'm trying to make decisions that don't put me in that position. Knowing my limitations and giving myself a break allows me to show up more often as the person that I want to be. In this new space, I have found joy, inspiration, energy, and motivation.
