Happy Birthday to animation scriptwriter, Don Arr (Don R Christensen) born July 6, 1916. In 1937 he joined Disney as an in-betweener and scriptwriter, where he contributed to the animated classics, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, “Pinocchio”, and “Dumbo”. After working at Warner Brothers he went into comic book illustration and storytelling where he he rubbed shoulders again with the Disney company by writing a comic for Donald Duck’s animated short 'Donald in Mathmagic Land' (1959), and he drew the 'Mickey Mouse' story 'The Disappearing Island' (1950) for a Wheaties premium give-away comic. Up until the 1970s, Christensen wrote many Disney comics for these promotional give-away books for companies. Christensen also penned the scripts for three space-themed comic books by Disney named 'Walt Disney's Man In Space' (1955), 'Walt Disney's Mars and Beyond' (1956) and 'Walt Disney's Man In Space: Satellites' (1959). "Paperino e la partita a scacchi" è un adattamento di Lia e Nicola d’Amico del cortometraggio prodotto dalla Walt Disney nel 1959 "Donald in Mathmagic Land". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Il breve cartone, della durata di circa 30 minuti, vede Paperino protagonista di una serie di avventure nella Magica terra della Matematica e una di queste si svolge proprio su una scacchiera. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Nell’albo, Paperino è corrispondente di guerra per documentare la sanguinosa diatriba tra il Regno dei Bianchi e il Regno dei Paonazzi: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Il Direttore del giornale gli aveva dato una scatolina e gli aveva detto: «Cammina sempre avanti per la via dei Tarocchi, lascia la città per la porta della Briscola, non ti fermare alla Trattoria del Tressette, anche se senti dire che c’è il morto, e poi segui il viale alberato che incontrerai. Ogni tre passi, apri lo scatolino e ingoia un confetto. Il resto verrà da sé». Quando Paperino fu in vista della Pianura detta della Grande Scacchiera ingoiò il primo confetto, un po’ incredulo e un po’ disgustato. Quale non fu la sua sorpresa quando sentì uno scatto alle ginocchia e si ritrovò più basso di almeno dieci centimetri. Fece tre passi ancora, ingoiò un altro confetto e divenne sempre più piccolo.
