🇨🇱6 things to do with kids in Santiago 🇨🇱 We are back in Chile, and due to some mechanical problems we’ve spent the last three weeks in Santiago, the country’s capital. Two of those weeks were camped at the Parque Cerro San Cristobal, hanging out with other Overlanders and seeing the main sights by foot. Here are our suggestions: 1. 🏙Visit the continent’s highest building. This was a five minute walk from our camp spot. Ok, we’ll admit we didn’t go up as we’re on a budget and it costs $18 per adult and $6 for kids 3+. But it’s pretty awesome to look at from below and hang out at their cool mall (see tip #5). 2. 🚡 Take a ride on the teleferico. This starts at the Parque Cerro San Cristobal and can take you high up on the hill to the statue of Christ or even further along to the funicular by the zoo. The prices are as little as $4 for one adult and a child. 3. 🖼 Visit the Ralli Art Museum. This is free and as well as hosting some pretty awesome work by Latin American artists, it boasts a few pieces from Salvador Dali too. 4. 🎨 Visit the street art at Barrio Bellavista. This neighbourhood starts at the bottom of the funicular by the zoo. It is home to famous poet Pablo Neruda and hosts a ton of cool cafes and murals. 5. 🐠 Visit the Centro Mercado to select your own fish or seafood and have it prepared. This may be one of the largest fish markets we have seen. Walking around it is an experience in itself. Zoe picked out her favourite “Reineta” and had it turned into fish and chips and ceviche at an on-site restaurant. 6. 🦖 Have a ride on a dinosaur at the bottom of the cenco mall, Costanera. A five minute ride costs $3 (you can pay for longer) but they let children ride together too. Not going to lie, I was super nervous for our hike up to Tiger’s Nest and to Bhutan in general. Between the windy roads and altitude I wasn’t sure how my body was going handle it. I get pretty rough migraine’s from motion sickness and it’s zero fun when they hit. Also, Derik is the seasoned hiker, I still tend to die on hills and question my life choices as I pant along behind him-but I am getting better! Add two small children into the mix, this was either a recipe for disaster or a trip that we would remember forever. Safe to say it was a trip we would remember forever. The hike to Tiger’s Nest was beautiful and the perfect amount of challenge with the littles. Derik and our AMAZING guide Chozin hiked with the kids in their packs up and down so they quite literally did the heavy lifting to the cheering and praise from everyone along the trail. If you struggle with motion sickness run straight to your doctor and request a prescription for Scopolamine patches, they have been such a game changer for me and I had zero symptoms throughout our entire trip. The DNE Summit FAM continued as the group departed New Hampshire for Vermont, heading across the state line for the next 3 days to explore another beautiful part New England. The group started with a visit to the Equinox Resort Manchester, a beautiful hotel nestled amongst Vermont’s Green Mountains, followed by a tour of Hildene, the Lincoln family home last lived in by Abraham Lincolns Great Granddaughter (where the group caught a glimpse of Lincolns infamous hat) and got to cuddle some adorable baby goats!! Dinner and all things maple were at Palmers Sugar House and an overnight in Burlington with its pretty waterfront on Lake Champlain. The next day was a quick walk around downtown before heading to the fascinating Shelburne Museum and a stop in scenic Stowe Village before the adventures continue…. After a successful DNE Summit the UK delegates headed off with other international operators for a FAM trip taking in New Hampshire and Vermont. Starting in New Hampshire the group jumped aboard and drove the ionic Kancamagus Highway to North Conway, taking in the stunning scenery. Exploring the streets of Old Porvoo Last Sunday we did a little trip with my fav little humans to the Old Porvoo and visited a friend of mine at the same time. Porvoo is so beautiful city with old wooden houses. It’s packed w turists during summer season and I don’t wonder why 🏠 She didn’t care about the beautiful buildings, we was just excited to run around and checking through the Windows what’s inside the shops. Bilbao for one Day 🏙️ #roadtrip Wir haben den nächsten Zwischenstopp in Bilbao eingelegt. Glücklicherweise haben wir auf dem Wohnmobilstellplatz direkt noch einen Platz bekommen - ganz oben über der Stadt mit einem tollen Ausblick. Von dort konnten wir zu Fuß in die Stadt laufen und Little P hat direkt ihr Schläfchen gemacht. So ein Tag in der Stadt mit Baby ist herausfordernd & man sollte das schon etwas planen. Für die kleinen sind die Eindrücke ja sowieso schon viel und wenn man dann noch chaotisch umher rennt, tut das ihnen eher nicht so gut ☝️ Das ist ja aber auch voll fein! We've just returned from our first camping trip of the year and it was so so great to be back living out of a tent even if it was just for a long weekend. We went with 3 families, two neighbours and another family we've not met before so it was really nice to get to know friends better and for all our children to play and make friendships. The campsite was probably one of the best we've stayed at, there was no 4G so apart from taking a few photos it was really nice to leave the phone in the car all weekend. The boys enjoyed having the freedom to play on their bikes, walks from the campsite, bike rides to the village pub and Shell Island, nature trails, rope swings, a dip in the river, a paddle on the kayak, warming up by the campfire...all the best bits about camping 🏕️ We're very much ready for more camping trips,🤞🏼this sunny weather stays! ☀️

There are two operators on these routes: Naviera Armas and Fred Olsen. Regular prices do not differ much, but routes might. Please note: not every crossing is booked for the same number of people. ❗️ Keep in mind it can be cheaper if you book early, if you have a smaller camper (you pay a price per meter), if you decide to sleep in a reclining chair instead of a cabin, if you don’t bring any pets or if you book a regular cabin instead of pet friendly (pets can also go in cages on deck). Lanzarote 🇮🇨- Cadiz 🇪🇸 €866: 31h, 1 adult, no pet reservation made 😬, all meals, pet friendly cabin, 7m camper Domestic ferries 🇮🇨: All prices include a 7m vehicle and 2 adults + 1 child, no pet reservations made since they stay in the vehicle instead of on deck, nobody asked or checked if we had animals on board • Gran Canaria - Tenerife €147 The other ferry crossings ⬇️ we booked with a 40% discount during Cyber Monday with Naviera Armas. Saved us a lot of money 💰 • Tenerife - La Gomera €89,50 • La Gomera - Tenerife - La Palma €120 • La Palma - Tenerife €96,50 • Tenerife - Gran Canaria - Fuerteventura €134 • Fuerteventura - Lanzarote €58 So total price for 8 ferry crossings: €2606 We stayed 5 months on the islands, but if the period would have been shorter or longer the price would have been the same. Remember that the islands are a true paradise 🏝️ if you like wildcamping and so there are hardly any other costs besides these ferries. Fuel ⛽️ is cheaper, groceries 🛒 are about the same as in the rest of Europe, going out for food is cheaper so overall we think it is definitely worth it. Reisetipp für alleinreisende mit Kind/Kindern 👆🏼. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wenn Mama oder Papa, oder auch Oma und Opa, alleine mit den Kids in den Urlaub fliegt/fliegen (gilt für gemeinsames Sorgerecht, egal ob verheiratet, getrennt, geschieden, zusammen lebend), solltet ihr Euch vorher um eine Einverständniserkläung des anderen Sorgeberechtigten kümmern. Denn sonst kann die Fluggesellschaft Euch sogar das mitreisen untersagen. Wie oft das nun tatsächlich vorkommt, kann ich nicht sagen, aber wer will dann schon vor diesem Problem stehen 😅? Die Einverständniserkläung könnt ihr Euch ganz einfach selbst ausdrucken, gibt es z. B. beim ADAC online. Dazu benötigt ihr ebenfalls noch eine Kopie des Personalausweises. Habt ihr die alleinige Sorge für Euer Kind, gibt es darüber eine Bescheinigung beim Jugendamt, die ihr in dem Fall dann auch dabei haben solltet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wir sind dieses Jahr in Münster am Flughafen auch danach gefragt worden. Wir hatten es dazu auch in deutscher und in türkischer Sprache dabei, also am besten auch immer in der Landessprache des Landes dabei haben, in das ihr fliegt. Manche Länder wollen es dazu auch noch in englischer Sprache. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Auch wenn Oma und Opa mit den Kids im Ausland unterwegs sind, ist das ganz wichtig. Denn sonst haben sie quasi auch keine Entscheidungsbefugnis, wenn mal irgendwas sein sollte. Telefonisch wird man vielleicht auch dann nicht großartig etwas ausrichten können, ihr könnt es dann aber den Großeltern sagen und die geben die Entscheidung weiter und haben in dem Moment auch die Befugnis dazu. Ohne die Bescheinigung steht man dann oft vor einem Problem. Es muss nicht sein, dass man danach gefragt wird, aber kann sein, wie bei uns in diesem Jahr. Also sicher ist sicher 🤪. Soooo, hier kommen sie, ein paar Spartips 🤪. Vorweg: kleine Ziele setzen und nicht gleich die mega große Reise planen. Angefangen mit kleinen Sachen im näheren Umkreis (z. B. bei uns Königswinter mit Schloss Drachenfels, Köln etc.), dann darf es auch ruhig ein low budget Hotel für 1 oder 2 Nächte sein, oder Zelten an einem See (ich kann mit Camping wirklich nix anfangen 🫣, ist einfach nicht meins, andere lieben es widerum, aber für die kleinen eben dann doch ein tolles Abenteuer 😉). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ich muss dazu sagen, dass wir einfach den Vorteil haben, dass wir vielleicht nur die Hälfte an Miete zahlen, was andere für eine Wohnung ausgeben müssen. So können wir anstatt einmal im Jahr eben auch zweimal oder mehrmals weg.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wichtig: einfach mal aufschreiben, wieviel Geld man im Monat zur Verfügung hat und die Fixkosten wie Miete, Handy, Versicherungen etc. abziehen. Sich ein Wochenbudget setzen und wirklich versuchen, damit auszukommen. Und wenn etwas übrig bleibt: ab in die Spardose. Ich bevorzuge übrigens immer noch Bargeld, nennt mich altmodisch, aber man hat die Finanzen besser im Griff. Wenn man ständig mit Karte zahlt, gibt man einfach mehr aus. Ich zahle hauptsächlich nur tanken mit Karte. Pfandgeld: früher hab ich das Pfandgeld immer für den Einkauf verwendet, jetzt kommt es grundsätzlich in das Sparschwein, z. B. als zusätzliches Shoppinggeld für den Urlaub. Wenn man es nicht schafft, dass komplett wegzulegen, weil man es zum Einkaufen braucht, versucht es wenigstens mal mit der Hälfte. Payback-Punkte sammeln 😂. Viele machen es nicht, manche auch wegen Datenschutz oder sonst was, aber es lohnt sich. Da kommen im Monat mit Nutzung der Coupons mit Mehrfachpunkten schon mal gute 20 - 30 € zusammen, manchmal auch mehr, für manche viel Geld, was sie einfach verschenken. Davon kann man schließlich einkaufen, tanken usw. Also why not? Einkaufen, einfach so verdammt teuer geworden. Ich kaufe nichts mehr, was wir nicht auch wirklich brauchen (Ausnahmen bestätigen die Regel, man muss sich auch mal was gönnen 🤪).
