Freeway (1996) • A demented version of Red Riding Hood with a Natural Born Killers streak. It remains a curio to me two days after watching it, I don’t know if I like it or hate it. The storytelling is a weird mash of serious subject matters (that I could trigger warning attach if I could be assed) and childlike dialogue and situations that feel like a PG-13 juvenile delight. To me this combo would’ve worked in a James Gunn movie but in here it’s oddly jarring. 10 minutes added and a little more subtlety added to the Riding Hood allegory and it could’ve been a classic. Reese Witherspoon shines in one of her first roles here, to a point where she probably DiCaprio’s it from Gilbert Grape and I’m glad people didn’t think she was a rude sassy annoying white trash girl. Kiefer Sutherland shines as the creepo deluxe, and their chemistry was great. I just wish they were together a lot more. And that she didn’t keep putting herself in stupid self jeopardising experiences. Ok movie, could’ve been better. Freeway {1996} ……………………………………………………………….…………………. This movie was wild. It was hyper violent and the writing wasn’t so great. The storyline was interesting though. The cast was an unexpected yet pleasant surprise! I never imagined Reese Witherspoon, Brooke Shields, and Brittany Murphy to be in one movie together. Many references to Little Red Riding Hood are shown throughout the film, which is an interesting connection. Aunque lo parezca, esta no es otra road movie indie en las estanterías de un videoclub en los 90. O sí la es, está bien oculta y olvidada. Detrás de su rostro de thriller noventero, Freeway es una gran carcajada contra los sectores más conservadores pero así también contra el trapo impoluto que flamean los biempensantes. Es rabiosa como una Natural Born Killers con menos presupuesto y retorcida como si acabase de inyectarse la filmografía entera de John Waters en las venas. Esta Caperucita se llama Vanessa Lutz y es una adolescente menor de edad que avanza a los tumbos a través del lado B de Los Ángeles: estaciones, paradas, tribunales y la cárcel (el esquema promedio de aquel que el sistema rechaza). Pero Freeway por suerte no está para lamentos y la denuncia fácil. Le cabe la risa y de todo se burla. El cine como provocación delirante. Ese explotaition que agarra los géneros y los licúa. Donde tomar un cuento clásico para hablar de prostitución infantil en la contemporaneidad puede resultar todo un hallazgo subversivo. После очередного ареста родителей она сбегает из дома и пытается добраться до своей бабушки в Лос-Анджелес. Некий психиатр Боб Вулвертон, предлагает подбросить Ванессу до Западного побережья. В это время на шоссе подстерегает своих жертв сексуальный маньяк и убийца несовершенолетних девочек. Ванесса становится мишенью преступника, и её ждет смертельная опасность. Это проба всевозможных эксплуатируемых клише. В основе данной работы — современная версия всем известной «Красной шапочки», прямая связь с которой даже обыграна в изящных мультяшных титрах. Только теперь невинная девочка в красных одеяниях с нежным именем Ванесса. Это ненавязчивая ирония с мизантропической атмосферой удачно стыкует динамичный триллер с чёрной комедией, раскрывая всю искусственность попыток бороться с социальным насилием путём сознательного клиширования неестественных политкорректных догм.
