Sunshine (2007): 3.5/5 stars I recently watched a movie where Cillian Murphy plays a physicist who has to detonate a bomb. It wasn’t Oppenheimer. Like Oppenheimer, Sunshine has a star-studded cast, featuring Rose Byrne, Chris Evans, and Michelle Yeoh, among others. This crew is stationed on the Icarus II, on a mission to save the world from the dying sun by functionally creating a new one with a “little big bang.” Naturally, things go wrong, and they need to make extreme life-or-death decisions to weigh the fate of the world with their personal survival. I found the plot a bit difficult to follow at a couple of points, and would have appreciated a bit more depth to its spiritual themes surrounding the divinity of the Sun and the nature of determinism. That being said, it was a wild and enjoyable ride from start to red-hot finish. In my mind, Oppenheimer was a prequel to Sunshine, since Cillian felt so bad about potentially ending the world that he later had to go on a mission to save it. That somehow makes the movie even better. #truelies ist endlich in UHD erschienen, oder leider?! Ich sag mal so: es ist kompliziert. #JamesCameron hat mal wieder an seinem Meisterwerk rumgefuscht und mit der AI von #PeterJackson gespielt. Am Ende haben wir hier einen Film, der optisch nichts mehr mit einer Actionperle aus dem Jahre 1994 zu tun hat. Das Bild ist glasklar, das Filmkorn nicht mehr vorhanden. Damit soll der Look der Neuzeit getroffen werden, so zu mindestens möchte Cameron seine Werke jetzt haben. Schade, meiner Meinung nach haben die das nicht nötig. Der andere Punkt, der mich viel mehr stört, sind die Augen und Gesichter. Die Augenpartien sehen oft aufgerissen und unnatürlich aus, die Gesichter haben oft kaum noch Falten und könnten aus dem Kabinett von Madame Tussauds stammen. Eine Nebenwirkung der AI. Kennt ihr noch die erste Blu-ray Fassung von Predator?! Die ist dagegen noch harmlos. Dennoch bin ich froh, den Film endlich in der Sammlung zu haben. Wie ich die physische Veröffentlichung finde, erfahrt ihr demnächst wieder in Videoform. Hoffentlich sehen The Abyss und Aliens nicht ganz so schlimm aus, die wurden erst nach True Lies bearbeitet und die AI wurde dementsprechend schon angelernt. Ich liebe es durch die Filmabteilung zu stöbern und dabei eventuell seltene oder mir unbekannte Horrorfilme zu finden. So z.B. Der Voodo Fluch, ein Horrorfilm, der in seltsamer Dunkelheit lebte, wo man ihn vielleicht auf VHS oder einem beschissenen Stream auf YouTube gesehen hat. Ich hatte „Glück“ und habe „Der Voodo Fluch“ im Medibook für 7,99 gefunden. Aber worum geht es eigentlich? Die Story ist schlicht: Ein Paar zieht in ein Haus, in dem einst ein böser Plantagenbesitzer mit seinen Sklaven, seiner Frau und seinem Kind lebte. Die Sklaven übten einen Aufstand und riefen einen Dämon herbei, der vom Plantagenbesitzer Besitz ergriff und ihn dazu brachte, seine Frau und sein Kind in einem Sarg auf dem Dachboden einzusperren. Rückblick auf die Gegenwart und unser Paar aus den Achtzigern: David Young (Andrew Stevens), ein Arzt in einer Psychiatrie, und seine Freundin Kate (Mary Page Keller), eine Sängerin, die ein Popvideo dreht und zufällig Davids Patientin war, zieht mit ihrem Sohn Jason (Joshua Segal) in das Haus ein. Alles weist auf die schlimmen Ereignisse hin, während die Geister aus der Vergangenheit kommen, um sie zu holen. Im Kinderzimmer finden sie eine mit Brettern vernagelte Treppe zum Dachboden, in der sich der Sarg befindet. Beim Spielen findet Jason den Schlüssel und die Leichen werden entdeckt. Und auch ein Handwerker hängt sich an einem Seil am Haus auf und bleibt tagelang unentdeckt . Hat sich niemand gefragt, wo er war, oder auch nur auf die Außenseite des Hauses geschaut? Ich meine, es sollte doch auffallen, wenn eine Leiche am Haus baumelt. Die Effekte sind ganz gut gelungen. Ja, jetzt wird wieder auf Gräber gespuckt, wir steigern das ... ähm, ja okay, da fällt mir nun auch nix mehr dazu ein. Hier ist jedenfalls meine „I Spit On Your Grave“ Sammlung. Das Original von 1978 finde ich selbst gar nicht mal so gut. Zu sehr nervten mich die überdrehten Antagonisten. Aber das ist alles nichts im Vergleich zum 2019er „I Spit On Your Grave – Déjà Vu“! Denn dieses 2,5 Stunden andauernde Etwas ist alles, nur kein Film. Ich hatte beim Schauen damals das Gefühl einen Rohschnitt von etwas zu sehen, aus dem man später einen 80minütigen Film schneiden könnte, der dann zwar noch lange nicht gut wäre, aber immerhin anschaubar. „Déjà Vu“ ist einer der schlechtesten „Filme“, den ich je gesehen habe. Und wenn ich sehe, dass dieses Ding in diversen Mediabooks für über 30€ auf Filmbörsen rumliegt, könnt ich sowas von im Kreis speien. Das 2010er Remake ist dann für mich der wohl beste Film aus dem Franchise. Knallhart, brutal und intensiv. Für dessen Fortsetzung musste man das alles nochmal steigern; noch extremer machen.
