On our last adventure to Iceland, we took a helicopter to visit a series of ice caves. During the flight over I kept a small camera and lens combo with me and was taking pictures from the air. I went with the Sony A1 and the Tamron 17-50. It was a bit of a challenge photographing form the heli. If you pressed the lens against the glass then everything attached to the lens, including you shook from all the vibrations. You had to try to hold it off the glass while getting as close as you could to eliminate the reflections. You also had to bump the shutter speed pretty good to get anything sharp. Here's another nice moment between a pair of black-browed albatross on the Falklands. Situata nella regione del Suðurland, la parte meridionale dell’Islanda, a circa 80 km da Reykjavik si trova la cascata di Bruarfoss. Nonostante possa essere considerata una cascata piccola per l Islanda (il doppio salto e’ di soli 5 metri) è sicuramente una delle più belle per i colori: il letto e’ tutto nero (in pietra lavica) e le acque sono turchesi. Bruarfoss significa “cascata del ponte” e proprio ad un ponte è legata una leggenda. Flying birds 2. A few weeks ago a Great Grey Owl (Strix nebulosa) was in Helsinki, Finland which doesn’t happen every day. The bird attracted quite a crowd. Lembro como se fosse ontem, esse rastro formando na areia, desenhado pelas ondas na forma imperfeita da areia. O posicionamento da minha foto foi pensada em perspectiva, para um ponto específico da composição, o Morro do Pão de Açúcar. No entanto, eu não podia deixar de pensar no que mais entraria no meu quadro e como ele estaria ali, no caso o sol, que estava nascendo. Second Life How many times have you walked by a piece of driftwood without noticing it’s photographic potential? Every years, spring season will unveil a wide variety of cool looking objects…as the snow melts, water level in every rivers will very likely raise by a fair amount and that piece of wood is the result of just that! The question I keep on asking myself is where are these coming from? Could be anywhere! Some pieces of driftwood are just too chaotic…this one on another hand was just perfect! I truly love to find S shaped leading lines for my compositions as they play a great role of telling a fun story. I chose to setup my camera pretty close to the ground not only to display the beautiful texture of the wood but also to minimize the amount of empty middle ground. The reflection was truly lovely! And what else to say about the light than that’s EPIC LIGHT! My favorite! Truly wonderful warm directional light for the win! Captured with my @canoncanada 5DSr and my Canon EF 11-24mm f4.0 at 14mm, 1/50th second, f11 and ISO 100. As you’d expect, it also did require a great bunch of focus stacking to be able to have it all sharp corner to corner.

Another highlight of the Falklands were the black-browed albatross colonies that we visited. Being in such close proximity to a mass of subjects can be a little overwhelming and it's sometimes difficult to know where to point the lens! Spring has come out of nowhere this year! After seeing bluebell photos begin to appear on my social media feeds I decided to head down to my local Dartmoor bluebell woodland yesterday evening to see how things were progressing. Due to it's high elevation, the bluebells and fresh foliage usually comes later to Dartmoor, and while the new leaves weren't completely out, there were enough fresh greens to compliment the bluebells. The bluebell woodlands down this way are somewhat more challenging to photograph than the clean, lovely beech woods further east, and are full of twiggy, bushy areas amongst the flowers with trees in a chaotic, haphazard arrangement. The forest air, fresh with the scent of damp earth and the crispness of the mountain breeze, was refreshing; during those moments, I felt alive and at peace. But it was the composition that mattered most to me. I aimed to capture the exquisite arrangement of trees and showcase the unrefined splendour of the forest. This is the essence of natural beauty, laid bare for those willing to look closer.
