What do you do when you can’t fall asleep or don’t sleep well? I used to struggle with good sleep… for years! Here are some ways to help you sleep and allow your body the restoration it so desperately needs every night: 1: Set a regular schedule. Get up at about the same time every day and go to bed about the same time every night. 2: avoid caffeine and nicotine late in the day and avoid alcohol before bed 3: Relax before bed by taking a warm bath, reading, or another relaxing routine 4: create a room for sleep: avoid bright light and loud sounds, no TV or computer in the room. Set the temperature to a comfortable level 5: Exercise sometime during the day before dinner. After dinner can excite your brain and make it harder to sleep 6: Practice tension release. Focus on where the tension is in your body and concentrate on relaxing that area. 7: Count your blessings. Pray for friends or things that are bothering you, praise for the blessings of the day. 8: white noise: this has helped so many people block the little intrusive sounds that keep your brain from shutting down. It’s been a game changer for me and my ringing ears. 9: take natural supplements that help balance your body and aid in rest, I find that my magnesium helps along with my gut health pink drink. Sweetie Belle is amazing, I sometimes feel like, I don't deserve love, I don't feel worthy of someone's love. I think Sweetie knows that on all the tears I wheep... ⏰ Thriller Thursday ⏰ I Can't Sleep by J. E. Rowney - 3.5⭐ “I can’t sleep. Not since June 16th, 2018. Not since what happened…” Traumatised by the events of her past, exhausted by insomnia, Becky Braithwaite believes that a new start will help her to recover. She leaves home to fulfil her brother’s dreams, and honour the life he never had… but she soon finds that escaping from the past is not as easy as she imagined. Is her fatigued mind playing tricks on her, or is danger really lurking in the shadows? My thoughts This would have been a fantastic short story, or even a novella. The author does a good job of describing the insomnia and its effect on both the protagonist and the people around her. Anyone who's had a bad night will understand immediately the brain fog and lost time. But the twist/ story behind her insomnia is simple and is eventually revealed without much fanfare. So the 'slow burn' of getting to the end makes the prose repetitive and wearying. A lot of people with chronic insomnia is driven by a fear of not getting 8 hours of sleep. 😧 ⁣ ⁣ They may have heard that if you don’t get 8 hours you may get heart disease or Alzheimer’s. ⁣ ⁣ The reality is that not a single large randomized study has found a causal link between short sleep and any health issue. Furthermore, adults sleep just a bit above 6 hours on average. ⁣ ⁣ Here’s the rub. That magic number? There isn’t any. I had severe sleep issues for almost 30 years, and no medical or alternative medical professional could help me. I was sure my sleep system was broken. I only slept every few days for just a few hours, and nothing helped. Sounds hopeless, right? Luckily, I did eventually learn the problem after almost 30 years. My sleep system was not broken, and neither is yours. The problem is that our fear of sleeplessness and fighting sleeplessness is causing the brain to activate the fight or flight system every night. The brain thinks there is danger and is preventing you from sleeping. The more we fear and fight sleeplessness, the longer our sleep issues continue. The more we can leg of trying to fight sleeplessness and allow it to happen, the more sleep we get with time.
