Memories were always something I never questioned. I would go out with my friends and wake up the next morning with no doubt of what happened the night before. That was before OCD struck me down with false memories. I was walking through the grocery store and my mind took a turn on me It made me go over and over if I hit something (or someone) while driving my car. Mind you, I knew I didn't But OCD didn't care about that. It wanted me to truly believe I did So I went back, checked for anything, anyone, and of course nothing was there because I didn't do anything but OCD wasn't satisfied...it had to make me crumble. And it did I spent the next few years going through the same thing with almost everything in my life. I had gotten so deep in a rut with this I had no idea how to get out. The only way I remember actually making this lift is when I put into my head that false memories are like a undeveloped picture. In the beginning, it's foggy, and then when it develops you see all the details. Then you look closer and you see things you didn't notice before. Here's the thing... That picture isn't yours. The details aren't yours. All that mess is something OCD created. It put the picture in place. It's taking something simple and casual and making you believe that you did something catastrophic at the same time A false memory is a thought. OCD will do everything it can to make you believe it happened. It didn't

Well, blow me down with a God damn feather, I take back yesterday's complaints about the CMHT, because my treating doctor called me today to address my complaints, and issue apologies. 😵 Credit where credit is due, that was both an unexpected and welcome conversation, and my acknowledgement of this is equally as important as my previous complaints regarding 'the system'.⠀ ⠀ We discussed how my GP has taken over prescribing, reasonable and 'proportionate' expectations of medication, and not to boost my dose so high that it lacks a solid rationale for symptom control, with which I was in full agreement.⠀ ⠀ We spoke about how I claim disability, and I am asking about 'reasonable adjustments' at work without a concrete diagnosis to assert what the heck I claim for. He stated, since my complaint, he'd read a detailed summary by my CPN, advising she felt there was a very significant affective component to my illness, not wholly explicable by BPD / EUPD. 🙏🏻⠀ ⠀ He acknowledged my pursuit for a firm diagnostic assessment, and stated that he already queried cyclothymia, but that, upon reviewing notes from my extensive history of contact with psychiatric services, he felt it likely I suffer from an affective illness, alongside EUPD. He expressed he would be happy to make a confirmatory diagnosis at our next OPA, and earlier than July if I felt it warranted.⠀ ⠀ I explained how life had turned around since lamotrigine was initiated. How I now care for my personal hygiene, environment, and am able to work again. He expressed how grateful he was for the aid of the medicinal interventions, but also reminded me I should 'remember I played a big part in my recovery' by fighting for what I believe in. 🥺 That touched my heart, tbf.⠀ ⠀ I forget, sometimes, how medications, therapies, etc., aren't a be-all-and-end-all, and how intrinsic motivation and insight plays a role in your journey to mental wellness, so it was both a stark awakening and heartening to be reminded of that.⠀ ⠀ I fought for this diagnosis for almost two decades, and we're finally on the precipice of a 'definitive answer'. I guess it turns out giving up my fight was never 'worth it', after-all. 🙂

Trauma and trauma recovery look different for everyone, but generally there's a deep hardened core and a bunch of squishy stuff, all held together by a peel juuuust thick enough to keep us composed unless something comes along to smash us. A lot of times, we think the "pit" is in the past, and the "problem" is all the squishy green goop, but I believe so deeply that care for the green goop is only palliative: it provides some comfort but not healing. Do you have a safe place to plop out your pit? Working with the core (in the context of a therapist or provider who has shown they deserve your trust and helped you work up to it) is, we believe, the path to deep recovery 🥑🫶🏽
