We've all heard the Maya Angelou quote, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This applied to Grampy Norm. When the news of his passing started to spread, we received many messages from people who shared these types of stories. To know Grampy Norm was to know acts of love. Many of the parents of our children's friends said upon hearing the news that their child was as sad as if they lost their own grandfather. Grampy Norm was sort of like everyone's grandpa. If they were a friend of one of his grandkids, then they were treated as such. If one of the kids wanted to go fishing, he put his plans aside and went. If a child asked to have a doll bed made for their doll house, he went to the shop and emerged with a doll bed. If someone wanted Grampy's famous rolls, then it was time to bake. If a child had a field trip, then he had a field trip. If there was a baseball game, then Grampy was the #1 fan. He made everyone feel loved. Yes, by his words, but even moreso by his actions. We have been asked for ways people can give in honor of Norm and did not have an answer until today. To remember Grampy Norm, here is what you can do...go make someone feel loved by your actions. 💖𝓕𝓻𝓲𝓭𝓪𝔂💖 How lucky are we to be able to get straight down on the beach after school. 💖☀️💖 The sun was shining, so it would have been rude not to make the most of it with a quick slushy and paddle on the beach. 💖☀️💖 What a beautiful way to end a Friday!! 💖💖 I could watch these guys playing together and just generally enjoy being in each others company all day!! 💖💖 Having so many children in the house means that there is always someone to spend time with, so most of the time that is exactly what they do! They all have their own friends that they like to spend time with, but they do all like to spend time at home with each other aswell. 💖 I love to watch the different dynamics within the different groups. As the ages change, the groups change and the dynamics change, but there is always someone to play with. No one will ever feel lonely!!!! 💖💖 They are all fiercely protective of each other and the older children are amazing with the younger ones! In turn the younger children learn so much from the older ones (although not always good things!) 🤦♀️😆 I especially love to watch the bonds that the older ones have with the tiny ones, it’s so very special and the little ones love it when the older ones come and play with them!! 💖💖 Knowing that all the tiny ones will have an army of big brothers and sisters to be there for them and support them when they grow up is an amazing thing!! 💖💖 We are so very, very proud of each and every one of these amazing humans!! Creamy coconut chicken This smelt so nice when it was cooking. Very tasty too... 3 packs chicken thighs (skin on and bones) Onion (that's a very large onion!) Mushrooms 1ts turmeric 4tbls garlic powder 2tbls paprika 2tbls curry powder 2tbls garam masala 4tbls tomato puree 2 tins coconut milk 600g rice Broccoli Add the chicken to a bowl, add in the garlic powder, paprika and turmeric along with s&p, give it a good mix up. Heat a little oil and fry the chicken on either side for around 3mins. Transfer to a plate. In the pan add the onion and mushrooms and cook until soft. Add the garam masala, curry powder, tomatoe puree and coconut milk and give it a stir. Add the chicken back to the pan, cover and simmer for around 10-15mins until cooked through. We had a great time at Family Fun night at the park last night. It's also rare for me to get a picture of my oldest son, my youngest son, and my grandson (my oldest sons son) all together, but I love it. My Finn is only a month and a half older than his nephew. Large family life might not be for everyone, but I wouldn't want anything else.
Putting this here for my memory so one day I can think back on how sweet these years are. All of our kids home with us… doing the little things of life and enjoying one another. We did our Costco shopping trip and then ate meat and cheese “roll-ups” with chips and guacamole before we headed home to put the youngest three in bed (they all fell asleep on the ride home!), unload groceries in the rain, and eat ice cream in our tiny living room while we laughed and talked. #largefamilylife
One of the hardest parts of losing someone so close is knowing that the youngest children won't remember him. That reality stings. Beau won't remember how he used to squeal and run to Grampy Norm as he walked through the door. Or how Grampy was one of about 5 people he would allow to hold him. Cora won't remember the way she would always return from hanging out with Grampy with a red twizzler. Or how she would always hug him and say, 'I love you with my whole heart' every time he left. They won't see his face or hear his voice when they close their eyes and think of him like the rest of us will. But, therein lies the challenge for myself and the rest of our family. I want to keep Norm's memory alive. I want the younger kids to know how wonderful their Grampy was and how much he loved them. Right now, talking about him is like touching an open wound, but with time, I know we will be able to share memories and talk about him - maybe even laugh - and heal through these shared experiences. I posted a question in stories the other day, but I want to post it again here because there were so many amazing ideas of ways to keep a loved ones memory alive. I feel this in my core… All the time people learn that I am raising four young girls alone… “You’re so strong” “I admire you” “I don’t know how you do it” And I appreciate that, but don’t. Single parenting is the hardest thing I’ve ever done and I’m certain ever will do. I break down. I get short with my kids. I don’t get one on one time with them except little moments. We miss out on some things because there’s no second parent. There’s no one to balance me or refill me with a hug or to clear my head to at night. Yahweh designed a FAMILY to stay a whole unit. “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? We are so far north that it stays light in the summer until really late and is only dark for a few hours until it’s light again. So many things he just KNEW already without prior formal instruction and it amazed me every single day. Spring school is upon us! Sort of. My 4 older kids are finishing up their years, we are on week 30, and I think one of them is a week ahead. But my 7yo and 9yo are only on week 30 in grammar, reading, and math! We are on week 12 for everything else for them. Which feels sad, and honestly I've just been feeling worse and worse about it as we pushed through sickness and all sorts of stuff this year. Last week I sat down with a calendar and realized if I do the rest of the subjects with them all the way through summer we will be super close to done by September. And I may be able to squeeze in a little here and there to actually finish by then. They say never to squeeze the weeks into shorter amounts of time! But these two are also able to sit through more than they were at the beginning of the school year. So, seat work will be done, and read alouds will continue all summer. Honestly, I feel a lot more like Mary Poppins in the summer. I dont think I actually get depressed in the winter, but when its sunny and warm I have super powers! So doing our readings actually sounds really fun! They always sound fun, but my 7yo wild man put up the hugest fights on seatwork (and any work, even small chores) all of autumn, and I was too exhausted to do readings after that each day. (And no, no learning disabilities, just character issues 🙈) Ha! Hear the guilt? My husband says I shouldn't defend myself so much, but I know I always benefit from hearing details from other homeschoolers. So here we are! I was so shocked to receive a FREE copy of @hopeheals Katherine Wolf’s newest book that I thought perhaps it was a scam. Then I was scared. Did God allow me to win this book because something hard was about to happen? Was it sent to prepare me? I let it sit, unopened on my table. The last five days have included hard things. Heartbreaking things. Today seemed a good day to open that package. The introduction had me underlining and highlighting. After the first reflection, I was crying. WHAT’S IT LOOK LIKE? Home/Un schooling looks different for every child, every family and everyday. What works for you one minute might not the next and you find yourself changing things up as your children grow. Parents grow too of course and we also have a vote in how our days should look with our children. Some people stick to one way for the entire journey and that’s cool. Others never thought about “a way” at all and just do what they do without the influence of Maria Montessori, Charlotte Mason and Rudolf Steiner. Some kids thrive on workbooks, others notebooks and some can’t bare to write anything down at all. All good. It is hard; when asked, to help a person understand what “the right way” to do home ed actually is. I think it’s easier to come up with the idea of what the “wrong way” might be. Don’t do that. Do what feels good. I have used a science booklet to help me to explain things to the girls. 🦋Learnt about mountains in the UK and spent time locating various places using the map. Also chatted about different areas economy. I have used a booklet to help introduce the girls to thinking about what economy is and why we care about it. 🦋Played with dolls/coloured lots! 🦋Attended cub scouts 🦋Video called friends 🦋Played Minecraft 🦋Fed the ducks & visited the library 🦋Watched Anne with an E 🦋Tended plants in greenhouse 🦋Listened to audio books 🦋Taken creative writing classes & English classes

This was a quick 10min meal from the weekend. 1kg chicken diced 2pks green beans 4 chicken stock cubes 4tbls garlic 4tbls smoked paprika 4 packs micro rice (not something I usually buy but it was cheap) Add the chicken, green beans and garlic to a pan with a little oil and brown, add the smoked paprika, stock cubes and 400ml boiled water. Fish with curry sauce 😋 I've been shopping at ocado for the past couple of month. It was a struggle to manage the supermarket on my own then drag everything home and put it away so been having deliveries. Can't fault Ocado to be fair, everything is decent quality and it's not too badly priced. This meal probably cost around £13 to feed 13 of us, not bad at all really. 8 smoked basa fillets Bag green beans Spinach Tomatoes Clotted cream 600g rice 4tbls curry powder 1ts turmeric Around 100g butter Add the rice and green beans to a pan with salt and around 1200ml of cold water, bring to the boil and simmer low for around 10mins until cooked and the water has soaked up. Add spinach and leave to wilt. In a bowl mix the curry powder and turmeric with the butter. Add the fish to an oven dish with half the butter mix and cook for around 15mins until cooked through. In a pan add the rest of the butter and tomatoes, cook for a few mins until soften, add the cream, s&p then once cooked add to the oven dish. 💖𝓜𝓸𝓷𝓭𝓪𝔂💖 These guys (including Liv and Isabelle of course) all smashed their show rehearsals yesterday!! 🎪🏆 In fact, everyone smashed the rehearsals yesterday and everyone had a great day!! 💖💖 They are all now even more excited (if that’s possible 🤣) for Show day itself!! 🎪🎪 Unfortunately Agnes was feeling unwell by the end of the day yesterday, she said it was just a headache, but she also didn’t each much all day, and wasn’t quite her usual bubbly self. 🥺💖 I thought she must be coming down with something as she had been super quiet all day, but after a good nights sleep she was feeling much better this morning, but still managed to blag a day off school!! “Just in case” 🤣🤣 Ben took them all for a walk to the beach this morning, before the rain came (AGAIN!!!) and as usual, Flo was in her element in the rock pools looking for stones and signs of life. 💖💖 It’s always good to get out for some fresh air, even just for a short time! These crepes are special at our house. The children ask for them all year long 😆 they take about an hour of making for our family size so they are reserved for special occasions. The Days of Unleavened Bread. I was sharing with them this morning that while it’s a once a year occasion for them, for me it was part of my childhood. My grandmother and mother were raised in Denmark so these were traditional “pancakes” and the only way my grandmother made them. It always brings me right back to childhood 🥹 Filled with strawberry jam, homemade whip cream and fresh strawberries 🍓 on top! 💖𝓢𝓪𝓽𝓾𝓻𝓭𝓪𝔂💖 It was Pizza challenge day today for April’s chosen challenge for our MFR cash for kids fundraiser, and these guys have been hard at work all day!! 💖🍕💖 They started the day off with a trip to Asda to get all the ingredients and then back home to start preparing!! 👍 All under the watchful gaze of Isabelle (and Ben of course) 😆💖 They all did a fabulous job and I can confirm that the pizzas all tasted amazing!!!! 🍕😋 I have to say a massive Thankyou to Isabelle as she has pretty much handled all the cooking today! 💖𝓕𝓻𝓲𝓭𝓪𝔂💖 Florence is in her dressing up era and we are all here for it!!! 💖💖 I love the dressing up stage! 💖💙 Joseph really wasn’t keen, he did sometimes put his Spider-Man suit on but not until he was about four. 💙 Funnily enough, Toby has never been keen either and still doesn’t like dress up days at school. 😭💙 The twins and Agnes used to love to dress up as did the older ones when they were small. 💖💖 The younger ones do still like to dress up sometimes but not as much as they used to and of course Flo has an abundance of outfits to choose from thanks to all the ones we’ve collected over the years. 💖💙 Next week we are going to have a sort out and move around of all the dressing up stuff, and make a new area for it to live so it will be a little more accessible for her and anyone else who wants to join in aswell! 💖💖 (I think I said dressing up a few too many times there!!🤣🤣) Did I happen to fall into the middle aisle of Aldi this afternoon and come out with a bouncy unicorn?? Yes, yes I did indeed!! 🤣🤣 I was a bit late to the party as Aldi have had their baby and toddler this April and this is the first time I’ve been in!! These kids... I tell ya, they blow me away! They continue to work so hard to care for their chickens. Today started the process of cleaning out the coop from the previous owners. It. Was. Nasty. It was hot, dusty, smelly, and just plain, hard work. And they just kept going. They didn't whine or complain or give up. Being pregnant, I really can't do much to help (pregnancy and bird poop dust are not a good combination). I'm so incredibly proud of their attitudes and perseverance as they continue to shoulder the responsibility. In a quiet moment yesterday, I realized...I have 12 children in heaven…and 12 here on earth. It was one of those moments. There were many emotions. Gratitude. Grief. Wonder. Joy. Sorrow. Hope. Peace. Love. There were many emotions. And in the season of life I find myself in now, there is much reflection. There is a looking back and an asking of the question, "Would I do it all again?" And the answer, regardless of the growing pains along the way is a definitive, "YESSSS!" Yes, Lord, I would do it ALL again! I would love and trust and leap and choose not to fear. And here I am now in a whole new season of launching arrows into their own futures-yet-to-be. I am overjoyed by the anticipation of seeing my children have children and grow in the ways God intends for them along their own winding paths full of gratitude, grief, wonder, joy, sorrow, hope, peace, love because that's where they'll meet Jesus. And my hope of all hopes is that they too will trust the Lord and follow Him with their whole hearts, teaching the same to their children, come what may. Come what may. He is our Anchor. He is our peace. He is our hope. He is LOVE. And He is good...in everything. We can trust the Lord! Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. ℍ𝕒𝕡𝕡𝕪 𝟙𝕤𝕥 𝔹𝕚𝕣𝕥𝕙𝕕𝕒𝕪 𝕁𝕒𝕤𝕡𝕖𝕣 . March and April is birthday season in our house ( 4 birthdays in 3 weeks) The first was just over a month ago with my little Jasper turning 1!!! He has brought so much happiness and joy into our home and made us smile even on the hardest of days. My pregnancy and his birth were some of the hardest times in my life, recovering from his birth was something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, but I would go through it every single day if it meant having him here. They told me he most likely had Down syndrome, that he was too small and not thriving - they were wrong! At 6 months he started crawling and 9 months not only did he walk but he ran! He’s healthy and happy and we all love him more than words can say. His birthday was March 20th, but I haven’t been using instagram and wanted his perfect little face on my grid! .
