As a mum of two, running my own business as well as a side business my life feels very full. I know for many of you whether you have children or not this will be the case. If you don’t have various strategies under your belt you can very easily feel overwhelmed or stressed. It’s amazing to notice how our body so quickly gets addicted to feeling busy, stressed, fearful, in worry, anxious etc etc. All these patterns are addictive and our bodies start to crave the hormones and chemicals that are released when we are in these feelings and emotions. Learning how to hold space for all that’s going on, implementing mindfulness techniques as well as time management strategies is key to finding more time in your day from a grounded and more easeful place. Signs that busyness could be taking its toll. You could be feeling... - irritable - impatient - Reactive - Emotions controlling you - Mental & physical fatigue - Decreased productivity - Difficulty concentrating - Neglecting self-care - Sleep troubles - Feeling overwhelmed If you value (like me) feeling grounded, energised, positive in my mind, and not feeling rushed all the time. Check out the blog post I’ve just written ‘Do you feel strapped for time?’. Hit the link in bio to read it.

One of the biggest fails in the society we live in is that we spend far too much time doing things that we don't like and barely have any time to truly feel fulfilled through our passions. Let the sunshine into your soul. While traveling, we spent 2 winters in the south. It was heaven. After this past winter in the midwest, I learned that I do best with lots of warm, sunny days in my life. I almost never left our cozy, little condo. To be honest, I think I only went outside once during January. I was done traveling all the time. Yes, I loved seeing new places. But how many of us have been exhausted after vacation? It was mostly a 2 year vacation and I was tired and homesick. So, I entered a season of rest. One of the best things the past few years has given me is permission to take time. It is ok to say no to things you are not interested in anymore. It is ok to say no to being busy all the time. It is ok to do you. So for now, I am in a season of quiet. And it is so good. #slowliving #slowingdown #livingquietly #lessbusy #sayingno #beyou #beauthentic

What’s a clutter free weekend look like? For me, less commitments, more downtime, making time for the things that make me happy. Of course we all have errands to do. That’s just life. Slow down when doing the errands and jobs and add some things in to make it fun, like a coffee reward at the end or your favourite thing to relax. Clutter free can be tidying and decluttering that one space you will spend most of your time in this weekend. Or it could be a clutter free mind. Getting rid of all the distractions. Enjoy your clutter free weekend ❤️ #clutterfree #clutterfreeliving #clutterfreemind #lessbusy #downsizingblogger

At this time of year, I have a lot of requests to work with students who are approaching exams, in a hope to support them over the coming months to manage things well. My focus is usually on understanding and managing the nervous system – and finding ways to calm ourselves in the moment, and over time. One of the most effective methods I use is to focus on breathing. In times of stress or high alert, our bodies can revert to shallow breathing in readiness for fight/flight/freeze. Noticing when that happens is the first step to managing things more effectively; and learning how to breathe deeply into the lungs is the next step. Just three deeper breaths can start the process of calming down and allowing the body to function in a state of ‘rest and digest’, when the logical part of the brain can be in charge. Equally, spending time practising relaxation techniques away from stressful situations can help in the longer term. The more time we can spend in a relaxed state, the better we can feel overall – and that also means our brains can function more effectively. Something to think about this month… not just for yourself but perhaps for others in your life too, particularly children. You might be an introvert, highly sensitive, or just feel a bit overwhelmed by the expectations of people in your life – so it could be time for some social rest. This might mean taking time away from people in general and spending time by yourself. Or, it could mean the opposite. Social rest can also be reached when you interact with another person and leave feeling fuller than when you started. This meaningful interaction with another is so restorative as there is no fear of disapproval or rejection. It offers you the freedom to be completely authentic with another human. Do you know who is on your ‘restorative’ list? No need to make an actual list – just be aware of the feelings you experience with people and learn to know what you need and when. Or do you prefer to be completely alone to rest and recuperate? Either way, it's crucial have your needs met - particularly at such a socially busy time of year for many. #socialrest #restorative #drainsandradiators #interaction #breathe #relax #slowdown #lessbusy #findthefun #freshair #stretch #mobility #flexibility #stability #littleandoften #exercisedaily #cleanwellbeing #homeostasis #relaxation #rest #sleep #typesofrest #switchoff #recharge #achangeisasgoodasarest

If you’re anything like me, the holiday season can be too much. It feels so busy with over scheduled events, along with pressure to do all the fun traditions and activities. I’m not against any one thing, but the collective craziness of it all. For me, it muddies the whole reason for the holidays in the first place (even events meant to focus on the holiday celebrations!) One thing (of many) we can learn from trees is how to survive through crazy times! When conditions change, such as sunlight, temperature and length of days, many trees become dormant and slow or pause their growth. They focus on the the essentials to survive. Then, when ideal conditions return, they “wake up” from the pause and continue their normal growth. Isn’t that amazing? I resonate a lot with that this year, allowing for rest and slowed growth. The best thing I can do for my family and myself is slow down! We may miss a few traditions we normally do, or pass up on events we normally attend. Our current circumstances require more rest, more days with less rush and to-dos. If you’re feeling the same, I hope you’ll find a way to slow down, too. If this resonates with you, I’d love to know how you’re allowing for pause and rest! 🧘‍♀️ #lessbusy #slowdown #learningthroughnature #nature #happyholidays #pauseandrest #treesarecool

💭 of right now This week, I’ve missed more than 50% of all sunsets which is an extremely poor ratio. No problem, no cry because I can also reflect, visualize and manifest a lot of things at work. My long-ass waiting times are sometimes very annoying. And yet, one might consider them as a job perk (in addition to the cutest street cat ever). In the end, I’m sure it’s exactly what I needed. Next to "forced" siestas by the pool, there are so many hrs in which I can do nothing but wait aka be bored aka just be. Moments in which I have time to realize and appreciate the souls who I miss having around because they are important for my well-being, such as Paco and Marco or my Mum. Time to network with random people, organize my (admin) life, do handyman and garden things, water the plants, write IG captions, eat (ice cream) leftovers from the guests, journal, visualize, manifest, feel grateful and be in peace ... At one point or another, I keep reminding myself that this is exactly what I wanted when I left the corporate world. Time to do nothing. Time to listen to my heart and explore my truest desires. Time to be so bored that I become curious and creative again. Time to feel all kind of emotions. Time to become an even better person. Time to be me. Anyway, I still managed to be tired from this season now and am very much looking forward to focusing my energy on different projects next. Feeling happy about how this busy summer worked out. Grateful for every new skill and new connection. And even more excited for this villa job to be over soon. Slowly but surely. More freedom. More focus. More flights. Olé. B/A:..my client wanted help with her bookcases…there was grass cloth in the back only…off it came, new contrast paint was in order and a must was painting the entire shell of the bookcases with the contrast..look at the huge difference it makes when you paint the shelves top, underside and the shelf edge..it takes away the white stripe..creates a more calm effect..I did not put back all of her accessories she had on these shelves..everything she had was good but I felt like it was too busy..moved away some items, used them in other areas..this gave her a new look..I always have a client take away the white stripe in a bookcase..it is far less busy and easier on the eye with the shelf edge disappearing..allows for accenting accessories. #deborahgibsondesign #beforeandafter #bookcaserefresh #paintedbookcases #contrastpaint #newlook #lessbusy

We made it to the weekend! This has been a long week for me...lots going on. But that’s life. Sometimes we’re busier than others. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But no matter what, I make time for what I know I need - like my workouts. I do it for me. For my mental health as much as my physical. It’s stress relief. It eases anxieties I have. It empowers me. It shows me how strong I can be (mentally AND physically!)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So don’t let the busy-ness of life be an excuse. Let it fuel you to do better and focus on you for a small part of your day.

It's so important to find and prioritise the things that make you happy. I used to be stuck. I didn't know where I was, what I wanted to do or where I wanted to end up. I would wake up every morning so uninspired for the day and go to sleep at night feeling unfulfilled. I would exercise and do things to "fill in the time" but I never felt like I was where I wanted to be. Once I found the backcountry I immediately fell in love. I started building my exercise around this, and would constantly push myself out of my comfort zone to be able to grow my knowledge and experience. I've gotten to a point where I will always put this first, and rather than wishing for "busier weekends" I wish for weekends that are free, so that I can plan a trip and explore new places, or the same places in a different way. I use it as a place to switch off, live in the present and appreciate the little things. Because being able to do these is so important for living a happy, healthy life. What do you prioritise? #prioritiesfirst #backcountrynz #limitlessmindset #selfbeliefquotes #outofyourcomfortzone #lessbusy #knowledgeandexperience #outdoorsnz #appreciatelife #littlethings

Our society puts "busy" on a pedestal. It's a badge of honour, and it's easy to see why. When you're freelance, if you're busy it means you're making money. When you're working in a large organisation, being busy means you're trusted or important. When you're in a small organisation, being busy means you're growing. Busy is good, right? Busy can be fun. It can be addictive. It can lead to good things. But it's not the same as being productive. The old saying is "if you want something done, ask a busy person", but I'd add that it you want something done efficiently or with quality, then ask someone who is calm, focused and is good at saying "no". Choosing to slow down, but "in two weeks", or "when this thing is done", or "when that thing changes" is for the birds. These are always crutches to hold onto, so that you keep feeding your busyness cravings. But if you're ready to slow down THIS Week - now! - then here are ten good reasons that I hope tug on your psyche harder than a new email notification or a sense of FOMO... Summertime deserves its own special boundaries because the kids are off and there is more opportunity for quality time together. Summertime is also the season when we expose more of our bodies and thus there may be some priorities like pedicures that need to take precedence over something else. If your priorities are clear it is easier to communicate and stick to your boundaries. At the end of the day you want to have both time and energy for the things that matter most, boundaries will help to stay productive without adding more busyness to your plate. 🩴☀️🩴☀️ #productivity #lessbusy #boundaries #rewards #prioritize #selfcare #productivitycoach #bestlife #habits #planning #declutter #calendar #organizationtips #getorganized #getorganised #organization #organisation #organizedhome #organizedlife #professionalorganizer #organizedliving #luxuryorganizer #simplify #seattleorganizer #thethingsthatmatter #intentionalliving #timemanagement #methodseattle #methodforthemadnessblog

One downside of the summertime vibe is that it’s somehow harder to concentrate and focus (as any teacher trying to finish a school year will tell you!) For us grownups that means everything we have to do takes longer. The second summertime trick I employ to boost my productivity is to create a Finish Line and Reward for everything important that I don’t want to do but have to. (I prefer the term Finish Line to Deadline, sounds more athletic and less menacing.) Assign a finish line to something that requires focus and then pick the reward that you will give yourself when you cross the finish. For me this tactic was most helpful at work. I had 2 go-to summertime rewards; one was an iced latte for my ride home and the other was leaving early. The summer nights are long in Seattle and getting home an extra 15 or 30 minutes early almost felt like I had a day off ahead of me. One note, the reward needs to be good - something you will really appreciate - and you can only give yourself the reward if you cross the finish! 🍦🍦☀️☀️🩴 #productivity #lessbusy #boundaries #rewards #prioritize #selfcare #productivitycoach #bestlife #habits #planning #declutter #calendar #organizationtips #getorganized #getorganised #organization #organisation #organizedhome #organizedlife #professionalorganizer #organizedliving #luxuryorganizer #simplify #seattleorganizer #thethingsthatmatter #intentionalliving #timemanagement #methodseattle #methodforthemadnessblog

🚩A random search on the internet for ways to increase productivity will bring up millions of results. With so much information available to us on this topic, you would think that we’d have nailed the secret to productivity by now 💁🏻. Yet, many of us are just too busy being 'productive’ and trying different hacks that worked for somebody else but not us. 💡When it comes to productivity, there is no cookie-cut approach, Because the real measure of productivity is not time but ⚡ energy, And what will energise one person will drain another. When it comes to productivity, I always 👀 look into Human Design, because this is the only system that can show us how we innately exert our energy, make decisions and take actions. Human Design explains why what works for one person may not work for another and helps us understand what we individually need to thrive and perform at our best 💃. Energy Type is the basis of Human Design and helps us gain a deeper understanding of our natural abilities, Impacting not only our productivity, but also our interactions with others and getting what we want without burning out. 👉Click through the images below for an overview of each Energy Type (Projector, Manifestor, Generator & Reflector) and how it can help you optimise your energy for maximum performance and productivity Let me know in the comments below, what type resonated the most. #humandesign #humandesigngenerator #humandesignprojectors #humandesignmanifestor #humandesignreflector #humandesignreader #futureofwork #futureofworkplace #productivitytips #productivityhacks #increaseproductivity #lessbusy

💡There is a big difference between being productive and being busy. ❌Busyness is often fuelled by perfectionism and control, 🎯Productivity is fuelled by energy and excitement. ❌Busyness is about hard work and effort, 🎯Productivity is about being in the flow and aligning with your strengths. ❌Busyness is about trying to be good at everything, 🎯Productivity is being great at a few important things. We often associate productivity with 🕧 time, But this old way of 😴 thinking is keeping us stuck in the past. 💡So when we finally understand that productivity has nothing to do with time management, And instead, start prioritising our ⚡️ energy, excitement and passion, 💥This is when we shift into a new paradigm of working and stop subscribing to the myths that kill our productivity. #productivityatwork #beingbusy #stopbeingbusy #increaseproductivity #humandesignsystem #humandesigngenerator #timesavingtips #lessbusy #humandesigngenerators

May I have your time for just 2 minutes? Each of us have just one life to live, and yet we are generational. There are many generations that have come before us and there will be many to come afterwards. I am curious as to what legacy you are living and what are you choosing to leave behind for the future generations? Did your family before you instil qualities, strengths and abilities as a legacy? I have an inherent belief that so many of us have become so busy doing life that busy has become the norm, with less time to just be in the moments. We are spending less time telling the stories and looking back from where we came so that we can look forward to where we are going. Often our past can remind us of how privileged and grateful we should be for what we have and are able to do. For myself I am eternally grateful for Grandparents that instilled hard work ethic to me. They are both no longer earthside but their work ethics are a legacy. They took a block of land and worked it into being an avocado farm during their early 50's. Seriously that is so incredible to take on a venture at that age right? And then my Mom who is a child of their legacy still works hard to this day and she is in her 60's. We often sit and swap stories whilst my children are present, so that their generation knows of the family heritage. In fact, we all scrapbook the stories so that they may never be lost to the future generations. This world needs to learn to be more community less isolation, more stories less television, more legacy less selfishness, more stillness less busyness. I will continue to work on these attributes myself as I too can get caught up in the craziness of life and yet when I focus on being in the moment, being still and living a little less I am actually rewarded a little more. P.S this is a photo of my little family that I am working towards leaving a legacy for <3 #closetomyheart #legacyoflove #generations #leavingalegacy #scrapbooksofinstagram #memorykeeper #love #heritage #moremoments #lessbusy #lessselfishness #lessisolation

As the long weekend approaches in the UK, I’m thinking about resting. Are you getting the right type of rest? There are seven types of rest: • Physical Rest • Mental Rest • Sensory Rest • Creative Rest • Emotional Rest • Social Rest • Spiritual Rest This can be either active or passive. Passive physical rest is when your body is actually asleep, like when we’re sleeping at night, or having a catch-up nap in the day. Active physical rest is an activity that restores the body, like yoga, massage therapy or stretching. While this type of rest isn’t as crucial as passive physical rest to your daily functioning, it is still extremely important to get some form of physical rest at least two or three times a week. Interesting! As spring approaches, many people choose to clean out the junk in their homes in an effort to declutter, make room for new things, and maybe even simplify their lives. As you make plans to welcome warmer weather, take time to do some cleaning and simplifying - not just with your possessions - but with your calendar, energy, and time. How might you declutter the busyness of your life to make room for self-care, time with loved ones, or opportunities for new relationships? Creating more space in our schedules might be the most important spring cleaning we can do. For some, learning to relax is like learning a new skill: it can take time and effort to feel the benefits. Best days to travel are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Not only are they cheaper flights, there’s also more room to stretch out 😌😴. The airports are less busy these days ☺️😉 Tuesdays + Wednesdays = cheaper flights + open space ✅ #BookWithMe #TravelAgent #88TravelBookings #Tuesday #Wednesday #CheapFlights #LessBusy

At this time of year, I have a lot of requests to work with students who are approaching exams, in a hope to support them over the coming weeks to manage things better. Today, I’m working with a group of Year 11 students from lots of different schools to support them in the run-up to their exams. It’s part of the work I do with the fabulous Sport In Mind team and we’re joining forces with Active Oxfordshire too. I’ll be sharing some of my ‘doing the basics’ tips about helping their minds and bodies return to a state of relaxation, which makes potentially stressful situations easier to manage. I say this sort of thing frequently to anyone who’ll listen because, in the main, they work – if done consistently. These are the ones I talk about the most often: • Breathe slowly and steadily – perhaps considering the out-breath to be slightly longer than the in-breath. • Rest and do nothing – for as long as you need to feel refreshed and clearer. • Notice what is going on in your brain – acknowledge it and know that it might not necessarily be ‘true’. • Get outside (or think about being outside if you can’t get outside) – for fresh air, a different perspective, to move… • Listen to music that helps you relax – it doesn’t have to be any specific type, just something that helps you feel better. • Move: walk, run, dance, stretch – anything to get your body moving will help in so many ways. • Hug something/someone/yourself – release some oxytocin (mood-enhancing hormones) into your system. • Switch off devices, look away from screens – sounds obvious, but it’s so often overlooked. Any more to add? What works well for you? @sportinmind #movemore #breathe #relax #slowdown #lessbusy #findthefun #freshair #stretch #mobility #flexibility #stability #littleandoften #exercisedaily #cleanwellbeing #homeostasis #relaxation #getoffyourphone #listentomusic

Happy New Year to you all! Wow what a year 2022 was. When I reflect back I can’t believe how busy I was! I was fortunate enough to travel to a lot of amazing places and am so grateful for that. This year I’m looking forward to a more relaxed year on our farm, oh and getting married. Last year flew so I’ll be glad to take a few steps back this year and learn to say no more. I wish everyone the happiest 2023! #happynewyear #happynewyear2023 #moretime #lessbusy #memories #happiness

It’s been what I used to call a ‘busy night.’ 🥰 I sent out an email with the replays of my wellness workshop - Five Steps to a Healthier, Happy You this Holiday Season! 🥰 I invited women who want to create a wellness routine that sticks to join me inside my monthly Mindfulness Movement membership. 🥰 I set the date for my next round of Bloom Into You and decided on the women who will benefit most from this six-week offer! There’s more info coming on that tomorrow! 🥰 I finished decorating my house for Christmas! I have been steadily taking things out and putting them up throughout the week. It brings me such joy. 🥰 I put together a 40-minute yoga practice for tomorrow morning’s 7 am online class. I was planning to wing it. My energy was waning before I started decorating, but once I gave myself a little boost by doing something I love, the inspiration for a gentle yin class flowed from my mind onto paper. I’m excited to share with my wonderful clients. Once upon a time, writing this post would have exhausted me. Getting through a night in front of the TV was a struggle. I was unhealthy, unhappy, and never dreamed I would be where I am now. I am energetic, inspired, happier than I have ever been. Teaching yoga, sharing tips that have helped me go from someone with no quality of life to someone enjoying every day to the fullest, confident in her ability to help others. I’m stepping in to who I was always meant to be. I know there are even bigger things on the way. Let this serve as YOUR reminder that you can do ANYTHING. You can have whatever you want. You can be whoever you want. Everything you want is available to you. If I can do it, you can do it too. Choose happiness, choose wellness, choose to love the incredible person you are. Let your life get a lot less busy and much more productive. I’m in your corner. You got this! #lessbusy #moreproductive #loveyourself #giveyourselfwhatyouneed #mindbodysoulconnection #livingwell #nighttimemusings #lovinglife #wellnessworkshopunderway #joinus

A story of failure, in pictures. . 1. When the engineer stops you reading to highlight a funny mistake 2. Because of the amount of funny mistakes you've made, the engineer tells you they've used up all the available error markers on protools 3. Engineer says that the limit for error markers on protools is 1000. 4. Realise you've made 1000 mistakes. Re-evaluate life . Whilst recording the audiobook of Discovery of Less, I messed up. A LOT. But each one was a small failure that made me do it better the next time. Failure is success in progress. . Out soon.
