Do any of these sound familiar? At times, I regret being either too lenient or too strict and impatient. If you resonate with this as an empty nester, you might wish you had taught practical skills like budgeting, cooking, household chores, or managing anxiety and stress. However, during our parenting journey, many of us didn't have all the answers. We were simply doing our best with the knowledge we had at the time. It's common for parents to regret not nurturing the parent-child bond enough, wanting to be less busy, attend more school events, listen more, travel together, and have more fun with their kids. Acknowledging these feelings and allowing ourselves to experience them is important for moving forward. It's not a quick or easy process, but it's necessary. During moments of intense longing for our children, it's easy to magnify our perceived failures and forget our successes. I've struggled with this, questioning my parenting and wondering if I caused my children's challenges. Yet, we were good parents, navigating parenthood through trial and error. My daughter spent some time outside taking photos of our gardens and the landscape earlier this week and she shared some of her photos last night. She is 10 - exploring and navigating this world around her each and every day. I wanted to share this photo that she took because it made me pause. She decided not just to take photos of blooms, but various textures and also photos of herself at various angles and with a football, a bloom, etc. This makes me happy! Journal Entry 6 Wisdom comes with age. I think and act a lot different that I did 10 years before. But people expect you to behave wisely and be the younger version of that wise self. Wisdom comes with time and experience. There is a reason that the phrase "wise old man" exists. There was a story of Saratchandra that I read many years ago. It was called 'obhagir swargo' ~ heaven of the unfortunate. In the story a 8 year old lower cast boy tries to cremate her dead mother's corpse with wood, as per her dying wish, which she believed will take her to heaven. But what the boy did not know was they were not allowed to have cremation. Cremations and chanting stotras were for rich and upper caste people. And that lead to a lot of complications. In the end the writer commented that in that mere few hours the boy has grown up to be an old man, only his hairs has not turned white yet. ** It is night. And I wish I could have gone to sleep at least 2 hours earlier. But not everyday goes as planned. My thoughts about this back and forth issue with this Justin and korra divorce. So this is about Korra and her ex husband. It's getting to 3 years since they parted ways, yet the war seems like an unending one. And if you check well, you'll see that the man is always the one bringing up issues. She’s like a bottle of soda that’s been shaken up, but not before it was filled with glitter to the top.. boundless potential energy in a tiny package.. sometimes messy, sometimes sticky, mostly sweet, always sparkly, and never to be underestimated. It’s been a wild time lately. Work has been a lot. The chaos has been a lot. The constant multi tasking, from work mode to mom mode. The amount of cleaning at an exponential amount with a pup that chews everything. My mind has been spinning on the things I should still do that’s on my task list. The things I forgot to do, and of course- My physical health. Where this year I wanted to focus on that. Yet I have barely done shit. Yesterday was no different. Drained from trying to do things as fast as I could. With as much precision as I could. When I finished work I was playing music… and this wee shadow appeared from behind. “Let’s dance mommy”. I turned around and saw my baby girls eyes… took a deep breath and mustered up some energy. And so we danced…. Next thing ya know, Huli joined in. Jumping around with us lol. Just dancing…. My son decided to appear out of nowhere for a shake break with us. My husband comes up from the basement and decides to record us. Lol. When I rewatched it, in my tiredness my brain decided to start criticizing at myself. But then I saw my kids faces.. the laughter. The joy in even Huli’s face. Some days I forget; and maybe this is more of a “sticky note” moment for me to remember later. The little things can be the most impactful ones. This is a gentle reminder; on the toughest days- don’t forget the little things. And take a shake break - it’s great. And ya know. I guess that’s my workout for the day even though I really wanna go out and try and run lol.
