V/A – Plea For Peace Take Action A lively collection of tunes from a bunch of lesser-known bands and a few more famous ones, Plea for Peace Take Action gives five percent of its royalties to the National Hopeline Network, a 24-hour, confidential helpline for people in need of someone to talk to about issues such as child abuse, depression, drug addiction, and suicide. A lot of the bands involved are political and sing about social issues in general. Musically, it’s not all straight-up punk rock. There’s some ska, an acoustic number, a couple of indie rock bands and some emo wanking, which keeps the record from becoming monotonous. Among the best numbers is Bratmobile’s “Gimme Brains,” a feisty tune with handclaps and some bouncy percussion which lives up to the band’s name. Also, the (International) Noise Conspiracy deliver one of their better tunes, “Abolish Work,” and Selby Tigers include a new, infectious song called “Snowball.” Mike Park from the the Bruce Lee Band has a fine acoustic number about his family called “Can You Get Me Out of Here,” and the original lineup of TSOL has a new song, “Sold,” which they sneer in the same way as their classic tunes. There’s also the nerdy, synth, one-man act Atom and His Package, some pseudo-Irish drunkenness from the Swingin’ Utters, girl pop-punk from the Eyeliners, and the screaming and whooping of At the Drive-In. This compilation is a good taste of what’s happening in the punk and indie scene, especially for those who are unaware of most of these bands. Common Rider “Last Wave Rockers” is being reissued as limited edition vinyl by @asianmanrecords and is available for preorder now, just in time for the album’s 25th anniversary (it seems impossible that it’s been so long since we members of Operation Ivy, Screeching Weasel and @squirtgun_official banded together). There is also a special ultra-limited edition bundle with t-shirt and vinyl that will only be available a few hours. The vinyl has been out of print for almost two decades, and the demand is high enough that it will likely sell out during the preorder. I remastered this reissue at @soniciguanastudios in Rome, and @jesse9michaels painted a brand-new version of the cover art. Both Jesse and I also contributed liner notes. I’m very proud of my time in Common Rider and all we created, and I’m so happy that we can now share this special reissue with our friends and fans. ♫ San JoseのDeepな夜を @mikeparkmusic と過ごしました‼️ やはり彼は音楽にしっかりと向き合っていて、レーベルオーナーとして尊敬しかありません！ 今回も沢山音楽の話をしました。 彼のスタイル、泊まっている部屋に来て、 遊びながら話すスタイル❗️ また色々と仕事が出来るようにオレは頑張ります👊👊 本当にいつもありがとう‼️ いつか日本で乾杯しよう🍻 翌日はSan JoseからLAに戻る運転の日。 1号線(海沿い)を走って南下しようと企んでいましたが、まさかの土砂崩れで通行止め😭日本なら掲示板とかに表記されていると思うけど、何のアナウンスも無かった、、来た道を引き返してLAへ。 勉強になりました。 翌日は、元ユニバーサルのKimi Katoさんと 日本でライターをされていたAya Miyaharaさんとミーティング！ 今のアメリカの状況を勉強&認識させてもらいらつつ、弊社のバンドの音源、資料をお渡ししてきました！ やっぱり話せば話す程面白く、アメリカの音楽業界にもっともっと興味津々になっていきました！ Ayaさんが、タイ料理屋でオレの誕生日を祝ってくれました‼️ありがとうございました😊😊何か必ずやりましょう‼️‼️ 今回のアメリカ出張でのやるべき事が終了したので @longbeachduballstars のVo @tattoosbyopie に連絡して会いに行ってきました‼️ 彼は @sublime の40oz. It was 35 years ago that I met @jesse9michaels when I set up an Operation Ivy show during their one US tour. Ten years later, along with drummer Dan Lumley, we formed Common Rider. We spent a lot of time together in vans and at clubs, but also just riding around Lafayette on mountain bikes. When I was training for a marathon, Jesse even used to accompany my jogs on bicycle. It was a great period for me musically, and I’m forever proud of what we created together. Just last week was 24 years since the release of our first album, then we did a second one in 2002 and a final split EP the following year before disbanding. Our most iconic song was “Classics of Love,” and Jesse has taken that song title and used it to name another band. During the year of COVID (named after 19, but dominating 2020), Jesse and I collaborated on a new release for the first time since 2003 when I mastered the latest Classics of Love EP at @SonicIguanaStudios . In this shot in the wilds of Rome, I show off that Classics of Love EP which has just been released on etched vinyl by @AsianManRecords. The Latium sun hits the disc just right to bring out the detail of the etching, as the Arch of Constantine looks on approvingly. While the band’s name alludes to adoration and amity, the name of the record—“World of Burning Hate”—points in another direction entirely. It is no news that the story of the arch and of Constantine himself is full of many such contradictions. But just as the frontispiece of “Don Quixote” stated “POST TENEBRAS SPERO LVCEM” (after darkness, I hope for light), Jesse’s Classics of love is the daylight that tears down the nighttime of rancorous reality that the title describes.
