I've been dreaming of sunshine and those glorious, seemingly never-ending days when the time doesn't matter and the sand fills everything you own. I've been dreaming of escaping and being more present and the sunshine makes that happen. The world seems a better place when the sun is out and we can lose our layers, and some of our cares. The other day I saw that @lisasheama had published a new edition of The Buck In the Snow and Other Poems, a collection of poetry by Edna St. Vincent Millay. I've liked Edna St. Vincent Millay for a while but only read a bit of her poetry, and one of my New Year's resolutions was to read more poetry in 2024. So I read a bit of the collection today. I don't know why it is that poems about heartbreak from romantic love only touch me aesthetically, but poems about broken friendships make me really sad. "To A Friend Estranged From Me" is a painful poem because you can really feel that the speaker esteemed this person highly and felt close to them. And "estranged"--it's a quiet word, but what a lot of hurt can be packed into it. ...it also kind of reminds me of my WIP, but what doesn't?
