What on earth is with the wildlife this week. Found this guy crossing the Hume Highway this afternoon. Just like Mr Corella yesterday, he only narrowly avoided being run over before I grabbed him off the road. I took him to a local lake and made sure he made off into the water safely. This guy is an Eastern Long Necked Turtle that is native to Australia. Orcas in captivity is an incredibly sad thing. Imagine you’re crammed in a small room with several people you don’t know, and have nothing in common other than being human! These whales are no different. To a species so intelligent that they have ceremonies and languages, it is incredibly cruel to put them in these situations. I remember being very young and seeing Keet with who I believe Unna in 2008. I remember the feeling of wonder. I am grateful that I can still remember this moment even though I was so young. How much more magical that moment would have been if we had seen the orcas in their homes with their families? Families of whom treasured every individual member of the pod. Women for Wildlife The inaugural All-Women Anti-Poaching Ranger Academy in East Africa was launched by the @zeitzfoundation in 2019. Since then 27 female rangers have graduated from the academy on @segeraretreat, having undergone intense selection processes, months of holistic training, and field exercises. Under the guidance of Damien Mander (Founder of IAPF) and with the assistance of highly qualified instructors, the training provided included a wide range of skills such as Patrol Tactics, Conservation, Law and arrest, Canine Handling, and First Aid. These rangers play an integral role as mentors within their communities, empowering other women, sharing their acquired knowledge, and actively advocating for peace, intercultural understanding, and the preservation of wildlife. We believe that live export is cruel and unnecessary for our farmers, our economy, and our global food security.
