Trail Runners Do It In The Dirt's first Bluewater Canyon Trail Race and 3rd year hosting a race! The event went amazing and the participants really seemed to like the location change so we will run it back next year. We had amazing runners showing out setting the bar and laying down some really fast course times......about 33 minutes if you want to beat them! This year was also our biggest yet with 108 registrants and 96 participants on race day! We raised over $3,000.00 for Cibola Trail Alliance and had an amazing time doing it. Thanks for all the support from our sponsors and all the people that come out on race day to help out, it's truly appreciated! A very special thanks to @jtenvan and @jenvan_31 who always step in and help us on race day, your amazing people. And an even more special thanks to @sherri_m_garcia thanks for supporting this wild idea now for 3 years! The 6 months of planning, ordering, filling out permits.....I couldn't do it alone and you make the race directing go so much smoother than if I ran it all haha. Bluewater Canyon Trail Race! Still a little timid after hurting myself at Cedro Peak so I enjoyed the run with my little guy instead of forcing a race I wasn't sure I was ready for. Ryatt did amazing and pulled a 3rd place podium visit! Good job big guy. @jtenvan killed it and finished in under and hour and @jenvan_31 finished strong too! It’s been a whole 6 days of warmer weather and sun - so the barely passable route from Sunday is definitely ready to send it right? Ha. . Not quite. A lot of snow has melted and the mud isn’t mud anymore. But the snow left is soft and you will postholio every step while the blood lusting locust waits below. I forgot to do #TBT yesterday, so today’s #FlashbackFriday is one of the few pictures I have from Cross Country camp, the summer before my junior year (2008) 🏕️ Every summer, cross country camp was held at my grandparents’ ranch in New Mexico. We affectionately called “Kanch” due to a handwritten R that looked like a K in the word “ranch” on a poster at some point years earlier. Some of my best high school memories were at and on the way to Kanch, including the 8-hour, T-Pain-filled car ride, the running-based activities like Capture The Flag & scavenger hunts, & the 8-10 mile run on the last full day that, at the time, felt like a literal marathon 🚩🏃🏻♀️ I often find myself wishing that we took more pictures back then, and that I kept more than a handful of those that we did take. It’s warming up again and soon the heat will be on HIGH. . As part of my recent shoe journey to replace my favorite King MT2s - I’ve come back to try the @altrarunning Lone Peaks again. Last time I wore them (probably 2 years ago at least) I found them sloppy and just an absolute no go. I had learned trying some other shoes that often folks wear the wrong size in general (despite running in that size for many years). I thought that might be applicable and here I am a half size down giving the LPs another go on that solid 30 day trial. Only a little 7 miles of climbing, rocks and sand but they’ve outlasted the Speedgoats so far and I didn’t run home angry nor crying. EIGHTEEN miles of happy trails. 😊 Trail conditions were generally amazing and despite some wind it was the perfect cool for running. . I’m feeling a little beat up from the last few weeks of hockey two nights a week and some strong mileage training but I’m also feeling stronger and tougher both physically and mentally. 💪🐒🧠 . I did have a wardrobe incident worthy of pulling out my emergency @getsaltybritches - which resolved things quick and also was packing secret green apple chews from @saltstick (don’t trust the undercover package 😏). I still gotta work on my fueling game but did at least get some @tailwindnutrition at my makeshift aidstation and a few @vfuel shots up the hills. BIB# 3291 checking in post @galisteobasinpreserve COYOTE from @feral_adventures - the first picture was a few of us post-race trying to stay warm around the fire. It was colder than expected, no sun, and endless wind. BUUUUT after 13 and change miles later this was a really good race for me. I paced off a fellow runner (@jemez_cat_dad - seriously, this was like Icarus and the sun; don't pass, don't get too close, let him go if you have to) the whole first loop; the washing machine loop I was on my own and caught my @kkcherikath for our special dance and then continued on strong to grab a 3rd place ladies finish. Tomorrow we start our training for the @bataanmarch Some will be walking, rucking, running or run-walking. You can consider the full 26 or do the 14 miles. Whatever you decide- all are welcome. Come to all trainings, come to as many as you can. This is a free community event- although donations are always welcome to support our community causes. In addition you have the opportunity to purchase a Dec-March membership to support the ruck training. $250 gets you two coach-led classes a week! It’s a bargain and will go a long way to support you.
