April is PMD awareness month. I haven’t been posting much on social media though as I needed to take time out to get back on top of my self care routine. Some of the things I try to incorporate into my daily and weekly self care routine (as someone with PMDD & Ankylosing spondylitis) are: • 2 x 30 minutes @transcendental_meditation_uk followed by a few minutes breathing e.g. alternate nostril breathing or resonance breathing. • 5000 steps or more (I sometimes add in a bit of at home gentle aerobics to make sure I reach my aim!). • Morning walk in nature after breakfast • After lunch walk around the block • 2 x 25 minute strength training workouts weekly (own body weight) followed by 10 minutes stretching. • 30 minutes physio/stretching at least 5 x week (I blend in some gentle yoga too). • No alcohol • No caffeine • No sugar • No processed food • Supplements (seeing a nutritional therapist to help with gut healing, she is also helping me with brain retraining to help overcome the food intolerances). • 2 to 3 litres water • Getting to bed around 9.15pm and waking up around 5.30am or 6am (I’m more of a morning person!). • Lots of breaks if I’m working hard on something e.g. every 20 to 30 minutes having a 10 or 15 minute break to wind down, move, stretch, relax. If I do all of these things it helps to keep the PMDD symptoms to a minimum (less frequent and less severe). 📳 The number one use of phones and screens is social media use. So it makes sense if we want to decrease our screen time. Decreasing social media usage is going to be a big part of achieving this. The key to starting any new habit is starting small. Start by putting your phone down an hour before bed or not picking it up for an hour in the morning. Remove apps from your home screen and turn off notifications. You'll be less likely to be drawn in without the buzzing and beeping of a new notification. Plan what you are going to do in the time you want to not use your phone. Make it something fun that you look forward to doing. Tell your family and friends that you are reducing your social media/screen time. Our loved ones are always the best people for keeping us honest and on track. If you’re thinking about standing up for yourself with someone who has overstepped your boundaries, then read this post first! 👀 Communicating your boundaries is so important, but before you dive in, there’s a few things you should know to make sure you get the best result for both of you (and so it doesn’t blow up in your face- been there myself! 🤣) 💖My client recently inspired this post, as she was dealing with noisy neighbours disturbing her peace at home. In our session, we worked on this issue for her and she sent me a message the next day telling me about her good convo with them! 🤩 So I am sharing this super impactful tip with you so you can also stand up for yourself and feel the same! 🤗 💎 Have you considered communicating your beef (issue) with the person from how it’s making YOU feel? Did you know that instead of accusing the other person of being x, y, z to you or doing x,y,z, its far more effective if you started with YOURSELF. For example, instead of saying “You are so noisy”. My client could say “I feel disturbed when you make a noise” Less drama. More clarity. Boom 💥 Note - not all convos with people will go the same way. There are tons of different variations and types of boundaries you might want to address. Saw this beauty for two week follow up… and didn’t inject anymore Jeuveau 🤌🏼 Instead we added a hydrating hyaluronic acid serum to her skin care regimen. She has acne prone skin that requires a lot of abrasive skincare to keep it clear (her skin is beautiful, am I right?) but without adequate re-hydration she’s noticing more fine lines and crepey wrinkles in the places she still has natural movement. While I want to do ALL the things to hydrate her skin and stimulate collagen growth for a youthful look over her next few decades, this is where we started today. Thankful for clients who trust us with their skin!

Can what you eat affect a good night's sleep? 😴 What you eat can significantly impact your quality of sleep. Consuming heavy or spicy foods close to bedtime can disrupt sleep. 😖 🍬 Foods high in sugar before bed can disrupt REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, leading to more fragmented and less restorative sleep. ☕Additionally avoiding caffeine and alcohol before bed can help improve sleep quality. 🥗Opting for a light meal containing complex carbohydrates and protein can support a restful night's sleep. 💧Ensuring you are adequately hydrated throughout the day to avoid large volumes of fluid before bed can help prevent waking during the night. 💤Getting a consistent sleep routine as a health care worker can be tricky. It's all too easy to say yes to people when you'd rather say no. But we’re talking about changing the habits of a lifetime, so overcoming people-pleasing is not as simple as just deciding to set better boundaries and say no more often. So where to start? One of my strategies is to buy myself some time. Instead of saying yes immediately, I give myself some thinking time and check in with whether it’s something I really want to do or if I’m just inclined to say yes out of habit or because I don’t want to let someone down. I’d suggest starting small. Pick something that’s not too challenging and you’ll be surprised how easy it is. I learnt a cool hack from a high performance coach I love to follow. Wanna know what it is? Read on! Keep a note opened on your phone (I use Evernote as you can format text, change colours and make it look pretty! But regular note app would work too) 📝 Ok getting side tracked with designing 😅 - so in this note make a list of your wins 🙌🏾 and just keep adding to this anytime you feel down or low (he recommends doing this daily but come on lets get real!). Feeling overwhelmed? What can you do to look after yourself? Here’s my approach: I've made self care a non negotiable practice! Every day I take time to do things that make me feel good. For me, it’s exercise, getting outside in nature and finding time to read. A game changer for me was setting boundaries. It's not easy to start saying no, but you may be surprised at how little pushback you get.  Another form of self care is making sure you’ve got support. Meeting regularly with a mentor or have regular discussions with people who understand what you are going through can help you feel more energised and enthusiastic. Why stop at just Sunday? I love the concept of self-care Sunday at least you are giving yourself one day instead of none. Why stop there? Is one day of self care enough? Why not add small bits into other days? Do you currently do this? Do you think you need more time for self-care? Is there a difference in how you can handle day to day stresses when you do give yourself time? I challenge you this week - add self-care into every day. It doesn't have to be big! Find 5 mins in your day for mediation or time in nature. Something that gives back to you. See at the end of the week do you feel a difference? If you are already giving yourself regular self care take this time to check. Is what your doing still serving you? Do you need to change it up?
