Happy Saturday! My daughter had chosen how to bottle peaches, and make both peach and strawberry jam for her knowledge project in young women’s at church. We already canned the peaches earlier this summer and this was the last part of her project, learning how to make the strawberry freezer jam. . It’s pretty simple to make. You can check out how we made it in stories. It stores easily in the freezer and we are set for months. My son already asked what I’m making for Sunday dinner tomorrow and kindly hinted that homemade rolls would be the perfect way to test this new batch of jam. Sounds mouth watering to me!!??!! As the kids are now back in school, it makes me think of all the schooling my husband and I went through. He was getting his doctorate degree while I worked full time (with my bachelors degree) as a clinical laboratory scientist. We had four kids at the time. I still think back to it and remember how tough that time was. It was challenging waking up at 4 am (while pregnant with our 5th) to work a shift so I could be home when the kids got home from school. It was difficult but it truly has led to a beautiful destination. . . The kids remember going to the park a lot and riding bikes around the lake. We spent a lot of quality time doing things that cost little or no money. So, if you are still on this difficult road (whatever it may be), just know that the destination really is beautiful! I didn’t think we’d ever be here and yet here we are. M O N D A Y - I’m so ready! . . . I’m 1/4 of the way done with our master bedroom accent wall. We have done 3 board and batten wall additions previously and my takeaway has been, PAINT the wall the color your accent wall is going to be FIRST. Never have I done this until now, round 4. It’s going to make life so much simpler for final coat/touch ups after the boards are up & I caulk all seems - only needing to paint the seems to complete the wall as opposed to cutting in all boxes. I can’t believe August is here and Summer is quickly coming to an end. We love spending time on our wrap around front porch in the evening, watching the gorgeous sunsets and counting our blessings. If you followed in my stories, you saw that I found 2 very different mirrors that I had to have but wasn’t sure where to put them. Well they each have found their rightful place. And I just love how much this mirror brightens up our entryway. It needed a little face lift and this was it. And anyone recognize the shutter? 😉 That’s the one I went back to the store to get. Last week the shingles went on, Windows were finished up today, brick masons finished front steps and steps from garage into house yesterday, and HVAC started Wednesday. Next week plumbers start and HVAC will continue. At some point the metal porch roof will be put on, Then on to electrical. Sharing a little Before + After of our small outdoor living space off of our pool. We opted for an existing pool when we were house hunting in the summer heat of Texas (I have 4 boys to wear out ;) + I am so glad we did! Although we had to sacrifice a yard, I got a little creative this summer + added a large faux grass rug from @walmart. Seriously the best decision ever! There is no maintenance with it at all + it makes us feel like we have a yard right off our pool. Happy Friday! I decided to play along for the hashtag #girlshowyoface since most of my posts don't include me in them. This is a picture of me surrounded by the flowers I harvested this morning that will soon be made into bouquets for the Hood River Farmer's Market this weekend. I harvested zinnias, dahlias, cosmos, marigolds, sunflowers, tomatillos, mint, and so much more!⠀ ⠀ In the spirt of sharing for "Girl Show Yo Face", here's a little bit more about me... I am a total morning person, I have not set an alarm clock in years and my internal alarm clock always seems to wake me up bright and early. As you probably know, I love to garden, however I am terrified of spiders (you should watch me dance and jump around as I'm harvesting flowers and I find a spider starting to crawl on me 😂). I used to not feel comfortable going out in public without make-up on, these days as long as I have mascara on, that's usually good enough for me. What do you do when the cares of this world feel overpowering? When you’re burdened and heavy hearted? Do you sink? Does it propel you forward to rise above and seek truth? Hope? Or do you “wallow,” feel stuck, or have a hard time gaining perspective and not allow truth to be heard? I check myself with this and I’m in a season where I’m having to do a lot of trusting. That can be a hard and frightening word, ammiright? It really is an action step to trust. To keep from sinking, I hang on tightly and my grip gets firmer to my Jesus. He’s my anchor and the One that keeps me focused on truth. It may sound cliche and that’s the furthest thing from my heart. I trust His sovereignty. I trust HIS heart. I trust He’s working in ways I can’t see or comprehend. I know He never tires of caring and loving me. I know I can release my burdens and concerns and fear to His most capable hands because He loves even deeper than I do. And He’s shown Himself to have carried me over and over again. So I will choose each day to lay down my heart in surrender and put my action step of trust, into motion. Do you need to do that today, too? . . . #showmeyoursweetsummer

I like to shop for flowers for my deck when all the furniture is in place. This way I have a better idea on what to get. But since they messed up the sofa delivery day, I decided to go ahead and check out our local nursery and brought home these flowers plus a TREE lol...yes I bought a regular tree that should be planted in the ground but I will just use it as annual plant for the deck to give that coziness/privacy feeling (I may get two more 😅). . After today’s meeting with the school district, I needed some quiet time and beauty. I needed to shed tears. Not just for my child, but for every child just like her - the ones who need help, the ones who have “significant concerns” but aren’t severe enough (according to limited tests) to qualify for the state to help, the ones whose parents are left with no options and don’t know where to turn to next. These are the ones who get left behind. These are the ones who fall through the cracks. These are ones who struggle and aren’t seen. Life is so unfair sometimes. Please Lord, direct my path. Please give me wisdom as to our next steps. Thank, Father, for loving my child more than even I do. Thank you, that you see her, you never leave her, and you are with her.
