Gracias al impulso extra que nos dio el café de @1760cafe pudimos alcanzar los 5.200 msnm y llegar a la cumbre del Volcán Nevado del Tolima. Es tal vez el volcán más llamativo y ofrece un carácter visual y paisajístico particular. Junto con los volcanes nevados del Ruiz y Santa Isabel forma parte del área protegida del Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados. Al interior del glaciar se encuentra el cráter del volcán, que cuenta con un diámetro aproximado de 180 metros. Hacia las laderas cercanas a la cumbre, es posible encontrar antiguos flujos de lava. El nevado del Tolima es reconocido por los montañistas colombianos por la dificultad en el ascenso, resultado de sus empinadas y escarpadas cumbres de lava que constituyen el cono volcánico. Estos ecosistemas son vitales para la vida y el suministro de agua en toda la región, pues los asentamientos rurales de alta montaña en las cuencas de los ríos Combeima, Toche, San Romualdo y Totare toman aguas de los ríos y quebradas que nacen en los páramos y las selvas de la zona altoandina. En la segunda mitad de este siglo, de mantenerse el nivel del derretimiento del glaciar, el nevado del Tolima podría extinguirse, pues está sufriendo una pérdida promedio del 3% al año. Es impresionante contemplar estas masas de hielo, pues constituyen glaciares milenarios que desaparecen ante nuestros ojos. Sin embargo, la situación del nevado del Tolima no es tan alarmante como la que corre su vecino, el Santa Isabel. Este ecosistema perdió el 37% de su área entre enero del 2016 y febrero del 2018, según los estudios realizados por el Ideam. We missed our afternoon window but went anyway to see if we could get to Mt Buller’s peak. Nothing physically stopped us, but the clouds set in it would have been fairly pointless. Maybe tomorrow. A beautiful walk, regardless. I appreciated the native flora; past peak summer but still gorgeous in its pockets of diversity. Some flowers still hanging on, even now as winter is banging on the door. So many Flame Robins to enjoy, and some crimson lorikeets. A real treat would be to spot a wombat, echidna, or mountain pygmy possum, but I suspect we’d need to venture out at night for those encounters. #MtBuller #SummitWalk #HughCountryVictoria

🌟FLASHBACK🌟 📍Hanging Rock Reserve, Newham, Vic A very famous location in Victoria, and one we could not drive past without doing the climb! There are 3 walks you can do: ⛰Summit Walk: 1,800 metres return trip taking approximately 50 minutes. ⛰Base Walk: 1,800 metres return trip taking approximately 30 minutes. ⛰Creek Walk: 2,300 metres return trip taking approximately 40 minutes. We chose to do the summit walk. The climb up was steep in parts as you could imagine. There is one long steep part that was intense particularly in the heat. I even tried to do the old 'walking backwards technique' to help my calf muscles. And no, it didn't really help! 😂 The views as you climb are pretty amazing, and if you collect a map before you walk up, you can view some points of interest along the way, one of which being 'hanging rock.' The view from the top was incredible and after the steep climb we definitely felt pretty good when we reached the top! It would have been a perfect time to cheers to the summit, if only we had a beer in our backpacks! 🍻🎒 DID YOU KNOW? 🧺 The name Hanging Rock is originated from a protruding rock on the path to the summit where the rock is wedged firmly between two vertical columns. 🧺 There are three Aboriginal Traditional Owner groups in this area – the Woi Wurrung (Wurundjeri), the Djaara and the Taungurung. Archaeological evidence found at Hanging Rock demonstrates Aboriginal use and occupation of the place for at least 10,000 years. 🧺Hanging Rock was the inspiration and setting for the novel Picnic at Hanging Rock, written by Joan Lindsay and published in 1967. The novel dealt with the disappearance of a number of schoolgirls during a visit to the site. Although the events depicted in the novel are entirely fictional, it is framed as though it were a true story. What do you think?? We visited the Stirling Range for a few days. The day we wanted to hike Bluff Knoll started out with blue skies and just the top of the mountain in some clouds, but within the hour the weather completely changed. Winds were blowing the rain horizontally and there wasn't any chance of a view at the top. For a brief moment, Evie was the highest person in Australia. It felt like such an achievement making it to the top. Over 12km round trip. We have now been to the most easterly, most westerly and highest points of Australia. Just need to get to the most northerly and southerly points. We had a celebration drink at the restaurant, Eagles Nest. Then it was down the chair lift and a go on the gondola. 🏔🥾 Mt Kosciuszko Summit Walk 🥾🏔 This is a walk I've wanted to tackle for a while, so when opportunity arose for my mate and I we took off to start our ascend from Charlotte's Pass. Now you can start from Thredbo by catching the chairlift up and knocking off around 6km from your hike, but we wanted the challenge of the 18km round trip from Charlotte's Pass. We missed the loop track and came back the way we went up which added an extra 8km to the hike. 🥵 Here are some observations: - The only carpark at Charlotte's Pass is for the lookout with a 20min time limit, so you have to park on the side of the road which will add another kilometre or so to your trip. 🚗 - I normally drink a lot of water but I found that 2lt got me there and back with a little to spare at the end. 💦 - The ground is very uneven and steep declines are hard on my knees and ankles. Wearing supportive footwear is a must! 🥾 - Even in summer it is COLD up in the mountains! The wind is fervent and icy cold. I should have brought a jacket. 🥶 - At the summit there's a podium marking the highest point of Australia, that had a line of about 50-60 people behind it at any one time to capture a photo with it. Controversial, but it didn't look that great. Es war mal wieder an der Zeit einen neuen Berg zu erklimmen. Leider hat mein treuer Wanderbegleiter @stoppi_91 diesmal mit Abwesenheit geglänzt, daher hatte ich die bezaubernde @maraileena im Gepäck. Der Mount Koscziusco ist mit 2228m der höchste Berg des australischen Festlandes. Wir haben uns mehr oder weniger spontan dazu entschieden, den 22km Loop zu laufen der uns gute 6h Zeit gekostet und ordentlich Kraft abverlangt hat. Gerade die letzten Kilometer inkl. Flussüberquerung gingen dann noch einmal ordentlich an die Substanz. Trotz des aktuellen Sommers, hatten wir auf dem Gipfel gerade einmal 8°c, die sich aufgrund des starken Windes aber eher wie -8°c angefühlt haben 😄 Kurzzeitig konnten wir eine tolle Aussicht über die Snowy Mountains genießen, ehe Nebel aufzog. Gemäß der Liste von Dick Bass, haben wir also nun einen der 7-Summits "bestiegen". Sometimes I like an easy day in the mountains and the funicular at @cairngormmountain makes for a brilliantly easy day. I took Scotland’s mountain railway to the top station, then walked with a ranger to the summit. I have been to the top of the 1245m mountain - a Munro and one of the UK’s tallest peaks - many times on foot and skis, but today I learned a lot more about the geology, geography, wildlife, environment and the surrounding views thanks to ranger Stevie and his assistant Joseph. While the @cairgorms_national_park is a place that I often visit and love, it was lovely to see the enthusiasm of other people in the group for Scotland’s outdoors. We all really enjoyed the superb views of today. This is a great half day experience for families and people who might otherwise struggle to reach a mountain top and experience being on high. Equally, if you want to make the most of a sunny spell - between the rain - then it is easy to book and go, too. The other way to get to Cairn Gorm summit is to walk up from the base station or from other glens and mountains. 💫 Mount Kosciuszko Summit Walk 💫 With the chairlifts not running at Thredbo due to maintenance 🛠️the only other way to the summit was to hike in from Charlotte Pass 🚶🏻♀️🚶🏻no probs we can do that it’s only 19km return 🤪 My number one wish 🤞🏼 to see and feel snow was achieved when I got out the car and sunk into ankle deep snow 👏🏼❄️✅ This hike is along the management trail that the NPNSW Rangers use to get up to Rawson Pass 🚕🚜 some of it was sloshy and muddy from snow melting, other spots icy and slippery and the higher up we went the deeper in snow it got ❄️ As you follow the Main Range consisting of Charlotte Pass, Carruthers Peak, Mount Townsend, Muellers Peak & Mount Kosciuszko you get amazing views of just how spectacular this area is and even more so covered in snow 🏔️❄️ we even had a bridge crossing over the famous Snowy River which was frozen in parts 🥶 Andrew made it to the top of Mount Kosciuszko (previous post with photos) and Annie nearly got there 🥲 the large snow drift near Rawson Pass stopped her from going any further (in case she fell off the mountain 🫣) who would cook dinner that night if she did 😆 It took us about 6hrs to walk with plenty of stops along the way Andrew walked 19.2kms & Annie walked 16.5kms 🚶🏻♀️🚶🏻 Another Bucket List adventure ticked off ✅✅✅ . . . #hiking #hikingadventures #snowymountains #snowymountainsnsw #mountkosciuszko #mountkosciuszkonationalpark #nationalparknsw #visitnsw #snow #snowpeak #snowdays #mountain #kosciuszkonationalpark #walking #summitwalk #highestpeak #australia #abcmyphoto #charlottepass #wrightsadventures #wrightsaussieadventures
