Day 5 🥰 Our final day! Today was a great day! We went out 'into the wild' to put our skills to the test! We went for a beautiful lunch at @thehiltonhotel and I had the steak which was 10/10! I had an extended bolus, which I hadn't done for steak before, so that was different! 🏃🏻♀️🎉 last Sunday, I ran my second half marathon!! wore my Dexcom CGM loud and proud!! This training block, I experimented with speed workouts and more energy gels during runs! ☀️ I PB’ed by 12 minutes!! Day 3 done and dusted! 🥰 Today we learnt about adjusting our own insulin, exercise and healthy eating! Some fascinating information! I loved the practicals of working out how much to reduce dosages aswell as all of the info about nutrients in the food and how low carb diets aren't necessarily the best option for people with type 1 diabetes. We played around with calculating carbs in whole recipes, simplifying what can be a very overwhelming job! Proof that I stretch! 🙆🏼♀️ Actually, to be honest, I hate stretching and avoid it at all costs! However, my physio said I have to do these quad stretches to loosen them up because they are causing trouble elsewhere. So, this is actually the only stretch I do. It’s the same with warming up! I only do dynamic warm ups before my run but when I am in the gym I just do one lighter set first before my set instead of a whole warm up routine. I am a busy girl and I try to maximise my time. In my mind girl math is skipping stretches and warm ups to make more time for the real stuff - the workout. 😅 What about you? Do you also skip the stretching and warmups? 1 year ago, it felt like my entire world shattered when the nurses told me my oldest baby, being just turned 8, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I thought she’ll never live a normal life, she’ll never get to eat like a kid again, she’ll constantly battle with her sugar every few hours the rest of her long life. Boy was I wrong. She’s thriving! She’s happy! And it just keeps getting better and easier! She has never once complained about getting poked or getting stabbed since being diagnosed. I literally couldn’t have asked for a stronger daughter. This post is just to say how very proud I am of her and how wrong I was about how life would be. Eye update #2 One week since my diabetic retinopathy eye injections. No longer hurts and is healing up quicker than I expected. Ever since I found out about my diabetes at 5 years old it has been a roller coaster 🎢 of high and low blood sugars. In and out of hospital for not making myself and my diabetes a priority. As a result I now have bi-monthly injections in both eyes to preserve my eye sight for as long as possible. My hope in sharing this part of my life is to help raise awareness to parents of young diabetic children and young adults to please please pleaseeee take care of yourself. I’m only 29 and have been going through this for 4 years now. My world will eventually and inevitably become darker than most, but this doesn’t have to be the sad reality for all and there is hope for a cure! JJ had a great endo appointment today he is 47.2inches (20%) and 59.3lbs. (73%) His A1C is 7.3 down .2 since January (right in range for someone his age). THIS MADE MY DAY!!📈📈📈 My best friend is studying medicine (clever clogs) and sent me these slides from her lecture today on EDs. When she first started studying, T1DE wasn’t even mentioned, 3 years in and insulin omission has its very own slide😎🤩 Whilst a few of the doctors I’ve seen over the years have had a (limited!) awareness of diabulimia, many were completely ignorant to the condition - even at clinics specialising in disordered eating!!! Spending the majority of my appointment time explaining my condition to professionals I was coming to for help always felt difficult. I'm Parker, I have type 1 diabetes, I'm turning 30 this month, I just got married to my best friend, and I love the outdoors. I grew up with a high value for nature, hiking, and adventure. At 15 I was diagnosed with late-onset type 1 diabetes, which was 2 weeks away from actually taking my life had it not been discovered and treated. Since then, I've been through different phases of being a diabetic. Some were careless and irresponsible, some were tiresome and weary, but some have been really encouraging and helped me realize that I can still do what I love despite this disease. The purpose of this page is pretty simple: To do what I love, to experiment with different ways of managing my diabetes, to research and share what I find, to always be learning, and to invite others into that process. yesterday was one of my worst t1d days ever i was up all night because of extreme low blood sugars turning into extreme high blood sugars had to change both my pod and dexcom - my old pod left a scar on my leg and i had to put on two dexcoms because the first one didn’t work the second dexcom overflowed with blood and i didn’t even realize, it also has left my whole right arm sore and exhausted because of the nerve or blood vessel it probably hit i had to take the day off from school because of the exhausting night i had last night, which is always discouraging because i try to not let my disease control my life. but in this case, i couldn’t help it all in all, im exhausted - and that’s the reality of t1d sometimes a lot of tears were shed, but i know better days are ahead 🤍 as always, thank you for following my journey • • • #typeonediabetesawareness #chronicillnessawareness #autoimmunediseaseawareness #explorepage #fypシ #typehappy

Sorry for my absence, life has been hectic. The last few days have been tough diabetes wise, and this set change was no different, I’m coming down with a cold, so I’m more insulin resistant than normal. Tonight we’re starting sick day protocol to try and manage the persistent highs. It’s embarrassing because I’ve been diabetic for 9 years, but today is the first time I’m activating sick day protocol on my own, I’ve always just kind of guessed how much extra I need when I’m sick, but hopefully following proper guidelines will help. On top of being sick, this set change the needle decided to get blocked taking an extra 10 minutes to get the insulin into the syringe, once I finally completed the set change, I got an occlusion alarm, something I rarely get, so today has really been testing my patience. So this happened… 😮. Yes, I’ve entered the ballot for the 2025 London Marathon!! The inspirational stories just make me want a piece of this fantastic event… and I still have the ringing in my ears of my diabetes diagnosis day nearly 18 years ago when the doctors first words to me were “you’ll never run a marathon!” I’ve not put in any mileage lately so went out for a 14K run today - that’s a third of a marathon - to test the legs. The run went well but my diabetes sadly didn’t. My blood sugars fell at around 5K and I spent the next 9K doing all I could to keep them at a safe level to run (see images 2 & 3). It was a big reminder that it’s not just running 26.2 miles that will be the challenge for me as a Type 1 Diabetic. Can you eat pasta and stay in range with diabetes? 🍝 OF COURSE! These are 5 of my BEST TIPS for managing blood sugars while eating pasta: 🥗 Pair it with non-starchy vegetables like a side salad. This is an easy way to promote blood sugar stability by increasing nutrient density and another source of fiber. 🍗 Add lean protein on your sauce or on top (e.g. meatballs) to limit the rapid blood sugar spike & promote satiety. 🍝 Choose a high fiber pasta if you’re able to. Fiber slows down carbohydrate digestion which can prevent blood sugar spikes. 🍽️ Ask for a side plate to help you visualize how much past you’re eating and remember to honor your hunger and fullness cues! 📈 Evaluate your insulin timing. When eating a meal dense in carbs, you may experience a more significant rise in blood sugar so increasing your prebolus timing is one way to potentially offset the anticipated rise. Remember that you can eat all of your favorite foods with T1D! 💙 You just need to learn the strategies that help YOU manage your blood sugars. One of the most helpful strategies for me has been learning how to dose my insulin based on the type of meal I’m eating which is why I developed the Power of Insulin course. Another hospital stay, another sleepless night. Yesterday morning @ 5am I woke up vomiting profusely for an hour, I threw up @ least 5 times. I was able to fall back asleep for a couple more hours, but as soon as I woke up I was back to throwing up. After about the 10th one, mom came, picked me up, & drove me to the hospital. Turns out, Im in DKA(again) & I’m also in another form of dka because my body is eating itself since it’s malnourished. The last few weeks, I haven’t felt the greatest & my eating had slowly gotten to be less & less, until this past week when I started not being able to really eat or drink anything at all because my gastroparesis flare up is REALLY flaring up this time. We talked w/ my GI last month, found out that there is a new procedure for gastroparesis called the GPOEM, that is supposed to change everything for the better. It’s called the “new miracle” in gastroparesis. Now, while I’m hoping it works w/ everything in me, I’m also being realistic about it because I’ve been told so many times before that there’s some “new miracle” that’s supposed to change everything, & been let down time & time again. This hospital stay, they are going to start me on TPN(artificial nutrition) so I can get some form of nutrients in me so my body doesn’t try to take us both out again haha. It just sucks cause Austin & I had plans to drive up to Kentucky/Ohio tomorrow for a wedding but now I don’t even think I’ll be able to go at all. Bottom line, Stomachs suck & so does my body. 👁 Annual eye check-up today with the opthamologist. Retinopathy is still steady which is brilliant. As a result of my retinal detachment surgeries, I knew to expect a cataract to grow and it has. Over the past few months my vision has been declining in my eye so I expected to be told today that I need surgery. I have been added to the list and in the next 3 months I'll have my surgery and hopefully close this chapter. It has been an absolute journey and I have learnt so much about myself. I am strong and I am so resilient. I face what is thrown at me.
