The British Airborne Forces (1944-1945) Pictured is a selection of clothing and equipment used by British paratroopers in the later stages of the war. Among other items, you can see the characteristic camouflage scarf, the early fiber rim paratrooper helmet with a leather chin cup, the early Battledress, and the STEN MKV. Most notably, you can see the legendary Denison Smock (second pattern variant). The Denison smock is a legendary piece of military wear, closely associated with British paratroopers and commandos in World War II. Designed for functionality and concealment, its robust canvas and distinctive camouflage were tailored for operations behind enemy lines. Beyond its practical use, the Denison smock became a symbol of elite status and bravery. Its design has left a lasting impact on military attire, symbolizing the innovation and courage of British paratroopers.

British (Norwegian) camouflage 🇳🇴
The British Army issued this camouflage smock as part of a two-piece outfit, designed to be worn over the Battledress. Its distinctive camouflage pattern made it a preferred choice among the Special Air Service and various Commando units, and it continued to be widely used by Special Forces even after the war. In the later years of WWII, notably during the winter of 1944-45 in Belgium, this camouflaged suit was issued to whole infantry units. The Windproof smock set and helmet featured here were issued to Sgt. Walter Helgeland, serving with a «Norwegian Mountain Company» (Bergkompani) in Scotland 1942-1945.

Gear used by British Dispatch riders 🏍️ Dispatch riders were crucial for conveying messages and information among units, frequently facing hazardous and challenging environments. These individuals required proficiency in riding and the ability to traverse diverse terrains and weather situations. Much of the gear is rather standard British infantry equipment, with some obvious exceptions like the buckled boots, helmet and trousers.

Some more USMC related webbing 🇺🇸 Featured in this photo are typical examples of ammunition pouches used by Marines, with a spotlight on the «combination pouches». These pouches were used for both the M1 Carbine and the M1911 Pistol magazines. Stitching added to the front prevents Carbine magazines from sinking too deep, yet perfectly accommodates the longer 1911 pistol magazines. This design versatility extends to how these pouches can be affixed to the M1 Carbine’s buttstock or snapped onto the pistol belt’s press snap fastener, like to other M1 pouches. We believe our mannequins stand out even more when their pockets and magazine pouches appear fully equipped. A great tip for achieving this look is to explore 3D printed magazines from our trusted friend @nounours1212. Not only do they keep those original pouches in shape, but their measurements mirror the originals precisely - without the hefty price tag. Ideal for collectors looking to complete their display without compromising authenticity or budget.

Happy Friday folks. Here it is as requested my Japanese type 99 series 4 rifle that I had to fix up a little. The bolt is matching to the rifle but when I found it the rifle was being help together by a rubber band in the local gun store 😂 thankfully I was able to source all correct parts for the rifle. Always wanted a type 99 with all the cool features and this one has them all. 🇺🇸 USMC webbing and field gear 🇯🇵 This is a late-war webbing and field gear set as used by Marines of the 4th Division, who fought in the Pacific theater. Known as «782 gear» - a nod to the NAVMC Form 782 - this was standard equipment for most Marines. While the pineapple 🍍 is a great replica, everything else, including the bloodstained Japanese flag captured in battle, is completely original, and tells stories of heavy fighting in the Pacific theatre. 79 years ago today, the fierce battle for Iwo Jima had just ended. The U.S. captured this crucial island, but not without significant cost: 5,931 Marines paid the ultimate price, and an astonishing 17,272 were wounded. Their legacy lives on in artifacts like these, a tangible connection to our history.

History Calling: USMC Field Telephones 📞 The EE-8 Field Telephone was a robust piece of technology that connected the front lines to command posts, playing a crucial role in Allied communications. It was built to withstand the harsh realities of war, from the beaches of Normandy to the jungles of the Pacific. In later versions, leather cover was replaced with more durable canvas to enhance longevity. The field telephones featured here were used in combat by the 4th Marine Division. They are both marked with UNIS (Unit Numerical Identification System) markings. This marking system was used to obscure USMC unit identities. The numbers 112 and 115 represent the Signal Company and the Assault Signal Company, respectively. These EE-8s have undoubtedly seen significant action. They have not been tested i in years, but hopefully we’ll get them back up and running with new batteries. They will be available for sale or trade shortly.

Pfc. Edward C. Barbig served with the 155th Airborne Anti-Aircraft Battalion attached to the famous 17th Airborne Division. He participated in all three campaigns with the 155th fighting in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns. During Operation Varsity, almost exactly 79 years ago to this day, the 155th was attached to and fought alongside the regimental combat teams. During the Central Europe Campaigns, the 155th was attached to the 507th PIR and during the Ardennes Campaign they supported other divisions’ infantry regiments and sub-units as necessary, and many of the artillerymen fought like regular infantry. The six batteries of the battalion were assigned across the 193rd GIR, the 194th GIR, the 507th PIR and the 513th PIR during the first days of fierce combat west of Bastogne. When the fighting in Europe ceased, Barbig and the rest of the 17th Airborne Division continued its occupation duties until 15th of June 1945. He then joined the 13th Airborne Division, preparing for the invasion of Japan. However, following the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki that was never to be. This «Ike jacket» belongs to a collection of items brought back by Edward Barbig. It features a machine-sewn patch from the 13th Airborne Division, The Ruptured Duck denoting honorable discharge, his Sharpshooter Rifle Badge and Glider Qualification Wings reflecting his marksman skill and airborne qualifications. Three overseas stripes marks 18 months of service abroad. Additionally, it has ribbons for the Good Conduct Medal and the European Theater of Operations (ETO) medal, complemented by three Campaign stars. Completing his uniform, his overseas cap features striking red piping, indicative of his artillery role.

If only this jacket could talk...
Each stitch of this 2nd Lieutenant's A Class uniform whispers tales of valor and sacrifice. The 17th Airborne Division fought through three bloody campaigns across the European Theatre of Operations. The decorations adorning this jacket hint at the fierce action its wearer likely faced while leading paratroopers into battle. Every artifact like this offers a precious glimpse into our history, yet we may never uncover the full extent of its stories. Unfortunately, the original owner of this piece hasn't been positively identified – a common challenge in military collecting.

🇫🇮Finnish troops captured over 3,000 SVT-38 rifles during Winter War. Additional 17,000 SVT-38 and SVT-40 were captured during early part of Continuation War. These rifles were very popular among Finnish troops (hundreds were estimated being taken home as war souvenirs), which often took immediately captured Tokarev rifles to their own use. Most of these rifles had ended to warehoused because of worn out barrels and/or other broken parts and waited repairs, which were never done. But considering that the most common problems seem to have included broken rifle stocks and worn out barrels, which there the parts that Finnish industry could have rather easily manufactured, best guess is that limited industrial capacity with likely low priority value compared to other firearms in Finnish inventory resulted them being left them in warehouses for rest of the war. One of the reasons why so many of the captured semiautomatic and select rifles broke down during the war was likely Finnish standard issue ammunition (with 13-g/200-gr D166 bullets and cartridge cases made from brass), since these rifles had been designed for ammunition which had much lighter (9.6-g/148-gr) bullets and cartridge cases made from steel. January of 1945 Finnish military ordered all Tokarev rifles not fit for combat to be scrapped. In 1950’s remaining Tokarev rifles were used for training with several thousand rifles being repaired for this purpose. Due to not having other source of spare parts they were typically fixed with parts cannibalised from other captured broken Tokarev rifles. Hence the resulting rifles tended be mix of parts originating from numerous rifles. Even plans about recycling their parts for manufacturing of new Finnish combat rifle surfaced around that time. But as intentions soon focused to assault rifles the whole plan for developing Finnish semiautomatic rifle based to SVT rifles was buried. Year 1958 remaining Tokarev rifles were declared obsolete and sold abroad via Interarms around 1959 - 1961. #winterwar #sakorifles #svt40 #svt40tokarev #wwiiweapons #redarmy #simohäyhä

The #artifact of the day - the German #mp40 machine gun. If you watched when #indy went up against "those" bad guys, it seems every single one of them was armed with this weapon. Considering anachronisms appear in the Indy movies it is certainly possible, but the guns could also have been the #mp36 or the #mp38 which included wood and machined parts. The MP40 was stamped into shape. 🚨❓🙋‍♂️Did you know that the pressure of a gas increases when its temperature rises, and vice versa? In fact, an increase in temperature results in an increase in the kinetic energy of particles (Gay-Lussac's law theory). Yesterday was a cold day 🥶for the closing shot at range. Equipped with my G43, to which I'd given a new gas tube kit reduced to a minimum (the smallest hole), the first 3 shots the semi-automatic cycle didn't go off. I thought I'd screwed the gas tube in wrong during the last cleaning. But it didn't! After the 4th shot, the gun was working perfectly well! I then understood the problem of the oversized original gas tube! It's the cold! The cold reduces the gas and lowers its pressure, which is why German engineers designed a very wide gas tube so that on the Russian front, with the cold and the dirt, the weapon would cycle without a problem! 🚨‼️🚨The gas tube must be changed to fire modern ammunition at normal temperatures. #waffensammler #gewehr43 #sturmgewehr #gewehr98sniper #gewehr98 #stalingradbattle #stalingrad #eastfront #wehrmacht #wwiihistory #wwiiweapons #waffenfabrik

#m2 #m2browning #browning #browningfirearms #machineguns #ametralladoras #firearms #usa #usweapons #armasdefuego #weaponsdaily #madeuce #fiftycal #wwiihistory #wwiiweapons #bmg #mustangp51 #mustangp51d

I don't know if I should really say this, given what a somber and serious a subject the second world war is, but I had so much fun at the D-Day Museum yesterday. I say this as someone who can chronologically be classified as an adult; it is so much more exciting when you find a place that lets you actually interact with history. You can get in the vehicles, hold the guns, try on uniforms. (Who knew gun turrets were so manoeuvrable?!) It's genuinely fun!! But it's also well structured, the stories of those who served are highlighted throughout and give a moving context to what you're seeing. As someone who regularly kills CGI Nazis on my PlayStation to relax, I did not expect to walk into 'the bunker' and feel such a sickening anxious weight in my chest at seeing genuine Nazi relics all together. This is real immediate history. Being able to pick up a gun that no doubt was used to kill my countrymen eight decades ago was a surreal and sobering experience and I thank the museum for curating all parts of the history of that era, not just the Allied artefacts. We have the luxury now of having a sufficient span of time between us and the events of WW2 that the Nazis have become the sport of fantasy villains, boogiemen, heck, people have made zombie films and games about them. But hopefully, with places like this, the reality of those times won't be lost as the generations who survived leave us naturally now.. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #vintage #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #dday #wwiiaviation #wwiimuseum #wwiiera #wwiiaircraft #ww2history #wwiiplanes #wwiiweapons #militaryhistory #worldwar2 #war #history #military #ddaycentre #Portland #Dorset #interactivehistory #museum #artefacts #handsonhistory #ephemera

The shin guntō (新軍刀 was a weapon and symbol of rank used by the Imperial Japanese Army between the years of 1935–1945. Japanese officers carried swords like this one during World War II. Unlike the ceremonial swords carried by officers in western militaries, the Japanese officer would have made use of their blades in beheading deserters or prisoners and leading banzai charges. 🫣🗡️ Click the link in bio to bid now on this incredibly gorgeous piece of history. The French Army had been planning a semiauto infantry rifle since 1921, but indecisiveness and bureaucracy delayed its development. A major trial was held in 1931, and elements of two experimental rifles were chosen to be combined into what would eventually become the MAS 1944. It was put through field trials in late 1939, and passed with flying colors – but too late to get into production before the 1940 armistice with Germany. The project was hidden from the Germans at St Etienne, and would be revived upon the factory’s liberation in the fall of 1944. By late 1945, rifles were coming off the production line. The MAS 44 was a direct gas impingement operating system with a tilting bolt, as was a remarkably rugged, dependable, and simple rifle. It was initially adopted by the French Navy, and only 6200 were made before a number of improvements were made and a new model was designated; the MAS 1949. @forgotten_weapons20 #mas36 #mas44rifle #frenchgarand #wwiiweapons

Focke Wulf Ta 183: The Ruhrstahl X4 Air to Air Rocket The X4 was a remote controlled wire guided fin stabilised rocket designed for air to air interception. The weapon was developed by Max Kramer for use with the Fw 190 and Me 262 fitted with 4 missiles per aircraft. It was tested with both of these aircraft. Once fired from 1.5-2.5km the X4 was controlled by the pilot using visual sighting and Telefunken FuG 510 Düsseldorf transmitter along with a FuG 238 Detmold receiver. The pilot could move the missile via a Knirps joystick up and down for elevation correction and side to side for azimuth correction. Separate switches were used for all 4 rockets so that the pilot could pre select one and start the stabilizing gyro prior to launching it. Once the pilot had aimed at the target using the gunsight they would then fire and release rocket to disengage the gyro and set off the fin tip tracer candles. The rocket was propelled with a BMW 548 rocket using S Stoff (96% nitric acid, 4% ferric chloride) and Tonka 250 fuel (57% crude oxide monoxylidene, 43% triethylamine). The first tests were fired in the air using a Fw 190 in September 1944 and proved partially successful. One problem they found was that the pilot was guiding the rocket and was thus open to attack. This was a problem in a piston engine but could be corrected in jet propelled aircraft. Tests were also continued using Ju 88s after the project was officially terminated in February 1945. Tests were also conducted using Me 262s but the Me 262 had 2 rockets one under each wing. One of the issues of the X4 rocket was its expensive production partly due to production of such volatile fuels. The missile itself would ship directly from factories and the batteries, S Stoff, detonators and explosive charges were produced separately and had to be mated separately. Despite this 1,000 missiles were made but luckily they were destroyed in air attacks on Stargard. The French and Americans made their own versions of weapons based on the X4 rocket both for air to air applications but also for ground use as guided rockets against tanks in the 1950s-1960s.

#ww#wwiihistory #wwiiweapons #weaponsofwar #weaponsofwwii #antiaircraft #antiaircraftgun #flak #flak41 #normandie #wehrmachthistory #wehrmacht #germanarmy #cañones #cañonesantiaereos

Me 262: Hitting Like A Sledgehammer! The Me 262A-1a interceptor was packing 4x Rheinmetall Borsig MK 108 30mm cannon in the nose offering devastating firepower. The weapon used a 60 round belt fed from a canister above the guns. The MK 108 used two basic type of shells: High Explosive “Mine” shells and High Explosive Incendiaries. Both are extremely deadly rounds. The Mine shells pierce the aircraft and explodes inside. The mine shell (if it misses) produces a plume or puff which was used by the Me 262 pilot as tracer for accuracy and adjustment. The second round causes fuel tanks to rupture and explode and will ignite fuel on contact. The MK 108 30mm was a blowback, electrically ignited charged and triggered by compressed air. The weapon was a marvelous feat of engineering being extremely powerful but also very easy and simple to mass produce and manufacture. The bomber pilots feared these weapons and dubbed them “pneumatic hammer.” The MK 108 30mm cannon had to achieve almost an impossible task. The Germans wanted a gun which would take a heavy bomber down with the least amount of ammunition as possible, in the shortest time possible and yet stay out of reach of the bomber guns. For the 30mm cannon the last one proved impossible. The short weapon had a low fire rate of 650 rounds a min and had bad long range capabilities due to its insufficient flat trajectory. The Me 262 however had the 4 cannons grouped in the nose. Remember wing guns need to be fixed, constantly adjusted and “bored” to converge at a specific range. The data and WWll pilots talk about this. The wing guns are turned inwards at varying angles but this causes the rounds to converge and meet together at a specific point in space. This range (convergence) was sort of a like a sweet spot for the pilot. The advantage of nose armament means you don’t have to worry about convergence. The firepower is concentrated up until its range gives out! The Me 262A-2a bomber only had 2x MK 108 30s in the nose to save precious weight. The Me 262A-1a/U3 the reconnaissance variant only had one 30mm cannon in the center of the nose. This saved even more weight making the Me 262 faster.

SVT 40 sniper 1941 and 1942 factory issued sniper rifles have some differences in markings. 1941 SVT snipers were marked with a "C" proofmark on the right side of the receiver bridge (only in this location, all "C" markings in other locations, including the flat surface near the production year are just production proofmarks). They were issued within special serial numbers groups. The first 2,000 serial numbers in specific letter prefixes were reserved for sniper rifles, while serial numbers higher than 2,000 in the same letter prefixes were used for regular rifle. 1941 Tula sniper and regular rifles can have similar letter prefix, but the sniper rifle will always have a serial number less than 2,000. This one is only a field made sniper with original early SVT 40 PU scope and original rusty mount. #svt40 #svt40tokarev #sniperrifle #wwiiweapons

This is my Mosin Nagant PU:   The late Sniper Version of the famous Mosin Nagant Rifle Just before the Invasion of Russia by the Germans, the Soviets started replacing the Mosin Nagant Sniper Rifles with SVT-40 Sniper Rifles. The Russians then quickly realized that the SVT-40 wasn‘t as reliable as the Mosin Nagant, and due to the rapid Invasion by the Germans and the massive losses in the early stages of the war, they came back to the trusty old Mosin. In 1942, the Russians adopted the PU scope since the Germans stopped giving them their ZEISS scopes and the manufacturing of the Russian PE scope took too long to equip every Russian Sniper.   The Mosin Nagant PU Sniper Rifle is so reliable that it still sees combat to this day, mostly in Ukraine and even in other parts of the world.   My particular Gun has a replaced scope, which you can notice by the Color you see when you look at the scope from an angle. Anyway, it‘s my dream gun, and I love to shoot it. #wwii #guns #milsurprifles #sniper #ukraine #russia #stalingrad #blitzkrieg #wwiihistory #wwiiguns #mosinnagant #mosin #vasilyzaytsev #war #wwiiweapons #mosinmonth

"General George Patton described the semiautomatic M1 Garand rifle of World War II vintage as 'the greatest battle implement ever devised.' Today, a law-abiding American citizen can buy one from, and use it in matches supported by, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), which Congress established to support national defense. Early in the twentieth century, military bolt-action rifles were sold to civilians; from mid-century, semiautomatic M-14 National Match rifles, with twenty-round magazines, were loaned to gun clubs. Besides M1 Garands, the CMP sold M1 carbines, which use fifteen- and thirty-round magazines, to civilians. To this very day, the CMP promotes the use of the AR-15 rifle in competitive matches." Frankentiger little brother? And from nowhere a new Tiger I pops up! Is this the famed second Tiger I the Hoebig collection was restoring? Because if it's the second Hoebig Tiger this was the real reason the famed Frankentiger was sold and not because of some German government conspiracy like Felton made up in his famous video. The Frankentiger that was displayed at Munster since April 2013. Herr Hoebig, who reconstructed this tank, was once the owner of the Trun scrapyard in Normandy. Knowing that several Tiger I's were cut up in that scrapyard, he probably took all the Tiger I bits and pieces and started welding them back together again. Some other parts like the barrel and wheels came from Latvia (Kurland area) and the hull and front wheels came from Nahabino military training grounds. This second Tiger if it's the Hoebig Tiger also came from the Nahabino military training grounds. The Frankentiger was sold to fund a second Tiger project a project that was supposed to make a second Tiger I in compleet running condition.
