Today I had the privilege of being at @ffordekatie's house for a writing workshop with @janetgoverauthor, @msalisonmay and @jothomasauthor 😍. It was a wonderful day asking questions, sharing writing tips, meeting new friends and eating delicious food - I wish it could have lasted longer. 📖 Book Review 📖 From A Box of Stories Synopsis - Gypsy Patience can talk to the dead. Leo is a journalist who wants to write her story. Louise’s son died and she wishes to communicate with him. These 3 lives get tangled up and secrets and heartbreaks are revealed. Review - I loved it. Didn’t expect to, I know you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover but this cover is so boring I nearly didn’t even pick it up. I was sucked into the story from page 1 and fell in love with the characters. I did see the twist coming but didn’t in anyway spoil the book. Christmas Kisses was one of those books I didn't have high expectations, but it positively surprised me! The book contains three different romantic Christmas stories. 🎄 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I felt like I was reading a Christmas movie. Alison May managed to squeze each of these love stories between 100-150 pages and they were better than some 350 page love stories I've read. Likeable characters, writing style, interesting plots and sweet Christmas atmosphere without being cheesy at all! Who is this Alison May and give me something more to read from her ASAP! “A Collection of Mr. Kite’s Open Mind” by OM Collective The first thing that comes to mind when trying to describe this album is the search for a sound. Like how we gonna describe this boi? It aint as simple as this but I see this as some kinda brainstorm between the musical experimentation and boldness of Jimi Hendrix and the whacky goodwill of Animal Collective. Straight out the gate, the album’s biggest asset is its ambition to create a singular sound and to exist in it. Filled with beautiful production that mixes all its elements with immaculate precision, an ear for howling and an obsession with precise changes in rhythm. Each feature on the record melts right into the concept of a theatrical show of some kind brilliantly, like a really fun carnival ride. The album’s lyrics seem to me to loosely follow this idea of trying to reconnect to a more holistic, spiritual domain of being and I think these ideas resonate particularly strong with the album’s more overwhelming elements-where a composition gets enveloping and joyously out of control like on “Torii Makasi” or takes its time to hit you with the forlorn sads like on “Tatsumi Schwestern”. A psychedelic masterwork that I can only really fault for being overly ambitious at 80+ minutes and everyone knows that I don’t like listening to a thing for more than 60 minutes at a time in order to conform to World Health Organisation listening guidelines. Apart from that this is one of the BIGGEST MOODS of the year so far and if that sounds cool to you you should give this a shot.
