Happy Saturday! What are you up to this weekend? It was my youngest’s birthday this past week and all he wanted to do was have ice cream with his friends so that is what we are doing today! I’m so excited to be a part of the @storygramtours tour for Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews. This new cover was just released and it is so pretty! Swipe for a full synopsis and you can find the link to purchase in my bio. This also happened to be one of my books for the #clearmybackbacklist book challenge so the timing worked out perfectly! Review: I really really liked this book and I’m so glad I finally got around to reading it. The book starts with an amazing prologue which gives a nice, quick backstory to the magic system which I really liked because you don’t have to figure it out for yourself. It is a very interesting urban fantasy world and the characters are great! I enjoyed reading Nevada and Mad’s (do we call him this just because she does?) magic and relationship develop but I could have used a bit more romance that I hope comes in the next books! I am a true sucker for a snarky grandmother character in a book and I almost always increase my ratings because of them. I see you Nevada’s grandma, you are my favorite character 🤗 I loved the ending and I can’t wait for more! Book review for: “An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England” by Brock Clarke ⭐⭐⭐ Honestly, I’m not even sure what to think about this book. It is very interesting, but I felt like it took forever to read. And I’m in a really bad reading slump because of “Lady Clementine” and don’t even want to read lately. My next book has to be something really good to make up for this. LOL. Anyways, so this book is about a guy, Sam, who burns down Emily Dickinson’s house when he was around 18 years old. Two people died in the fire. He gets out of prison, and the son of the couple that died has now come into Sam’s life to basically reek revenge on him. Spoiler - a person actually lights themself on fire in this book (starting at their head) and it was so disturbing to me because a few weeks ago that man lit himself on fire and CNN was live when it happened. ugh. КЛАССИКА НА ВСЕ ВРЕМЕНА Есть сюжеты, которые получили настолько огромное распространение в культуре, что идут с нами рука об руку с самого раннего возраста. «Алиса в стране чудес» Льюиса Кэрролла к таким сюжетам точно принадлежит. Каждый знает сюжет: кто-то читал книгу, кто-то видел фильмы или мультфильмы, кто-то забыл большую часть истории, но спроси любого – и отзовется, хоть что-то, да вспомнится. Я сама читала «Алису» только в детстве и с тех пор книгу не открывала. Оказывается, нужно время от времени перечитывать (или читать впервые) сюжеты, которые вроде бы знаешь с детства. «– Что ты хочешь? – Я хочу убить время. – Время очень не любит, когда его убивают.» Первое, что меня удивило, это то, насколько плохо я запомнила происходящее в книге. Некоторые сцены и отдельных персонажей я узнала с большим удовольствием: белого кролика, всю эпопею с увеличением и уменьшением размера и морем слез, Алису, застрявшую в доме, игру в крокет, чеширского кота. Но и эти отрывки существовали как бы отдельно друг от друга. А вот суд, Черепаха Квази и Грифон совершенно вылетели у меня из головы. Приятно наконец совместить все в единое полотно. Что мне действительно понравилось – так это каламбуры и языковая игра. Я искренне смеялась над абсурдностью и парадоксальностью многих сцен и диалогов, над стихами Алисы, пародирующими нравоучительную поэзию для детей, образами самих персонажей. Кэроллу удалось создать не только удивительный фантастический мир, но и через него вновь познакомить читателя с английским национальным колоритом 19 века. Не менее прекрасно то, что здесь глубокий научный пласт: за невинными и забавными рассуждениями и вопросами Алисы встают законы математики, логики, философии. «Если в мире все бессмысленно, – сказала Алиса, – что мешает выдумать какой-нибудь смысл?» Книга помогает вновь прожить нехитрые горести радости, вспомнив своё детство и счастливые летние дни.

How gorgeous are these collectors editions of ACOTAR and TOG?? I love them so so so much🥹 the illustrations on the pages are stunning and add SO much to the book! . I don’t have any hardbacks for either of these series so maybe I’ll get some fancy dust covers to go with them👀 or maybe ill just leave the gorgeous foiled hardbacks on display🤷🏻♀️
J'ai écouté en livre audio #mathildeetsesmitaines de #tristanbernard publié chez @voolumeeditions grâce à @audible_fr 《Mathilde ne paie pas de mine : "une espèce de paysanne du Morvan, au teint basané, aux durs yeux noirs, pas très fins au premier abord". Mais lorsqu’il s’agit d’enquêter bien peu des collègues de son mari, l’inspecteur Gourgeot de la Sureté, ne peuvent l’égaler. Justement, il se passe de drôles d’évènements à Belleville. Une bande d’apaches rode dans le quartier et une jeune femme se fait agresser sous les fenêtres de Firmin, un étudiant tranquille. Il la recueille, la soigne mais elle n’a rien de plus pressé que de le quitter, poliment, mais définitivement… Au grand dépit de Firmin sur lequel elle a laissé une impression… forte. Et lorsqu’il visite, le lendemain, le magasin qu’elle lui a montré, il apprend que les locataires viennent de vider les lieux. Pour la retrouver, il s’adresse à Mathilde et à son mari. Mais ce couple d’enquêteurs ira, avec Firmin, de surprise en surprise : un cadavre qui disparaît, des passages souterrains, une infirmière qui se révèle un homme, des morts qui sont toujours vivants et bien d’autres découvertes les entraineront sur la piste de dangereux criminels.》 Véritable roman policier à l'ancienne, on va suivre ici principalement Firmin et le couple Gourgeot qui vont mener ensemble l'enquête pour retrouver Rose, une belle inconnue qui a disparu et dont Firmin s'est amouraché... 🫶🏻 On va arpenter ici le vieux Paris d'avant la 1ère guerre mondiale, à travers les quartiers mal famés et les rencontres avec les voyous... La perspicacité de Mathilde, la femme du policier Gourgeot, est extraordinaire dans la bonne exécution de l'enquête ! Le style est un peu désuet puisque le livre date de 1912 mais cela fait son charme. L'intrigue est bien menée et le personnage de Mathilde en détective hors-pair est vraiment le gros plus de ce roman... Un bon moment divertissant avec une narratrice qui donne du rythme à l'histoire 👍 《Un médecin en présence de tous ces symptômes n'aurait pas hésité à lui dire : "Mon petit ami vous êtes en train de faire une passion."》 Merci à @audible pour cet audiobook
Something I learned on this trip to Tennessee: hikers going the other direction on a trail WILL read your shirt and ask you what you’re reading. 🙌🏻 I got asked probably 10 times on the hike to and from Laurel Falls. “The Unselected Journals of Emma M. lion, Volume 3” was a bit of a mouthful to repeat over and over! being a dedicated creative entails spending a lot of time in my own head, crouched over books, notes, crafts, and art. while this is fantastic and rewarding all on its own, i’ve recently been trying to incorporate more balance into my life through engaging in excercise. little known fact about me, i am a classically trained dancer who had to stop dancing due to bad knees in 2018. while i’ll always cherish dance most, i’ve accepted that it’s something i can’t engage in anymore. i’ve been trying to pick up tennis and i’m hoping to attend some yoga summer classes. i think that balancing out the body is such an important step to having an organized and creative mind - and i’ve really been feeling the benefits! as usual, the pictures are from pinterest ❤️

I knew, going into this book, that I was about to read a fictional biography of an artist called X, penned after her death by her grief-stricken widow. I didn’t know, however, just how deep into a fictional history this book would go. It’s set in a world similar to ours but one that has seen the US divide into separate countries. Though not separated by borders anymore, these ‘territories’ remain divided by modes of thought and the level of restriction inflicted upon personal life. Despite the impressive speed at which I found myself coming to embrace this grim new reality, what I loved most about Biography of X remained the relationship at the core of it. With stunning, visceral prose, Catherine Lacey slowly brings us into X and CM’s lives, builds a relationship that first feels exciting and art-scene-y but quickly develops into something more nuanced. What starts as a way for CM to avenge X from a man’s inaccurate portrayal of her, as it progresses and exposes further insight into the relationship, shifts. It becomes an account that CM tries to pull herself out of, a way for her to avenge herself from X’s remaining hold on her instead. We see, more clearly, an unequal relationship between an accomplished artist and an adoring wife struggling to understand who either of them is. A story about the lasting harm that endures even after the person inflicting it is gone, asking questions about whether we can talk ever about others without inevitably exposing ourselves, Biography of X is a breathtaking book that I’d highly recommend. Keep in mind there is discussion of various types of physical and emotional pain inflicted on others. A huge thanks to @grantabooks for sending me a copy of this one, now out in paperback! Este es sin duda uno de los mejores libros que he leido en lo que va del año, cosa que me sorprendió, ya que anteriormente habia leido al autor y no me había gustado nada. Basicamente la trama va sobre un escritor amateur que se muda temporalmente a un hotel de paso en el que han ocurrido unos asesinatos a sangre fria cometidos presuntamente por la hija adolescente de la pareja asesinada. El objetivo de este escritor es encontrar la mayor información del caso para posteriormente publicar un libro al respecto. Mientras los dias van sucediendo, muchos secretos van saliendo a la luz y aun asi nos encontramos con misterio tras misterio, yo básicamente menpase toda la lectura comiendome las uñas ante la ansiedad que me provocaba cada nuevo giro en la trama. Últimamente es raro que un libro de misterio le enganche de una forma tan impresionante como lo hizo este, y es por eso que lo recomiendo mucho si son amantes del género. Los personajes estan muy bien construidos, la trama excelentemente elaborada y la resolucion del misterio no los dejara indiferentes. The Warden by Daniel M. Ford I mostly enjoyed this book! It scratched that cozy fantasy itch I’ve had ever since I first read Legends and Lattes. I like that there was lots of queer representation and found the magic system interesting. My BIGGEST complaint is that the cover led me to believe this sapphic romance would be a big focus of the book. I mean…look at that cover! It screams two gays going on an adventure and being bad ass together…but that wasn’t it. The romance is really a side plot in the book and the love interest isn’t in the book as much as the cover led me to believe.I still really enjoyed this book and have high hopes for the next one but I wish the cover had been a little less misleading. Overall, I recommend this book if you’re in the market for a cozy fantasy but with higher stakes than what is found in Legends and Lattes.

Love is choice- Deal with the Elf King; Elise Kova Book Review: It's a typical book read but sometimes we need these types of books to just chill out. It's entertaining and light enough for an easy-to-read book.The author's writing style is interesting. Usually a first p.o.v has other characters fill gaps on what's happening around. The books p.o.v is very singular. Like It's really my mind. It keeps you guessing- or maybe because I listened to this through an audible dramatized version. Haha! I also love that it's a stand alone. Sometimes I would like a fantasy that I could just read and finish in a few hours and move on. I have saudade for everyone and everything that I have left behind” David Martinez’s memoir ‘Bones Worth Breaking’ is about brotherhood, diverging paths, tenacity, neglect, addiction and the roots they grow from, the systems and regimes that fail us, and nostalgia for the people and moments no longer with us. This story is emotional and heartbreaking in many ways, as we see how, from a young age, David and his younger brother Mike were the only safe place each other had till the moment he passed. Mixed-raced in a Mormon community, they struggled to belong with parents who found it easier to cope by ignoring and minimizing any problems. Religion, for some, can provide peace, direction, and identity, but it did the opposite for David and created immense shame, trauma, and confusion in his life, which contributed to setting him on a path of further self-destruction. “It was get high or deal with the saudades we didn’t yet understand, our own neodivergencies, bipolar disorders, and other mental health issues. We got sick and risked our lives because the only alternative we could conceive of was much worse” Even with similar beginnings and coping mechanisms, David and Mike had diverging paths — David went on to be an educator and writer while Mike was in and out of prison, which was where he tragically passed. His story has a lot of accountability, but to me, it shows how damaging neglect and toxic homes are. Kids without emotional support and a stable foundation carry burdens, scars, and trauma they shouldn’t have had. Through all the loss and struggles, David found his pillars toward healing. I don’t like to romanticize suffering, but some bones can be worth breaking if for the retelling that can connect us and assuage our fears as we trek our journeys.
