I took Bradford to a kid's autism prom today hosted by #successonthespectrum and it was a really thoughtful and fun event. They had the music playing low, sensory fun items for the children to play with. Although none of the children seem to play with one another there was alot of parallel play which still counts as socializing ❤️ they even had autism kids favorite menu chicken nugget (chicken rings) and fries from White Castle!!! @successonthespectrum thank you so much for your efforts today! #awesomeautism #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismfamily

So this is the first time I’m putting my daughter to this month Autism awareness/acceptance month. My daughter Eliana is more than this diagnosed which is why I don’t let it define her. To me Eliana is just Eliana ❤️ she knows how to read she’s learning how to spell. She’s talking not enough for a conversation, but she is. She had luekemia and she won her battle and will continue. She is a brave girl on what she had to go through especially since she has sensory issues. I thank my family and my husband family who accepts her how she is and loves how loving she can be. Three cheers for Gio - he made it through his very first year of school! It was NOT easy for him, especially the first half of the year. But he did it, and we are so, so proud of him! We are thankful for all of the wonderful people who worked with Gio and ensured his comfort and safety, especially his sweet teacher. She gave him the time, patience, love, and understanding that he needed, and he blossomed. Gio recently started ABA therapy and is on the path to continued success, thanks to his amazing RBT, who will keep working with him over the summer. “Autistic people don’t have empathy for others.” I’ve mentioned this before, how it’s such bull💩. And my Bear shows me again how wrong that statement is. We’re off to see the whales again! But this time it’s the big trip with @whalewatchwesternaustralia out to the Perth Canyon and hopefully see the big beautiful Blue Whales. We’ve been talking about this trip for over 6 months and had originally planned to do it with Granny. But sadly Granny had an operation last year that meant she wasn’t able to fly for 6 months so she wouldn’t be able to get here before the end of the season. She insisted we still go as she knows the love this Bear has for his whales. So I (slightly sadly, slightly excitedly) booked our tickets and told him. The excitement covered his whole face in an instant! But in the next instant, it was sad. “But Granny won’t be here.” 😢 That was his first thought. ❌ Not about his excitement. ❌ Not info-dumping about all the sea animals we may see. Empathy because he knew his Granny wanted to go too and would be sad because she can’t be with us. When you are part of his circle, you get all his love and affection. If you’re not in that circle, you’re not lucky enough to see the depths to which that love can and does stretch to. Lucky me. Lucky Granny. Lucky whales 🐋. Happy Mother’s Day to all the female role models in his circle. You are important to him. And to me. To my mum, happy Mother’s Day. This is the front of a T-shirt I bought for E to wear to school for the Coronation celebrations yesterday. She didn’t wear it, as soon as the shiny surface inside the T-shirt touched her head it was off. It’s one year ago today that CAMHS suggested E may well be autistic and to treat her as such. Still no diagnosis but hopeful it will be soon 🙏 We have all learnt a lot and a lot has improved, thankfully life is happier for us all. Though I obviously haven’t learnt to stop buying unacceptable clothing 😂. Before the month ends, I want to bring a little awareness to autism. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is scientifically defined as a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. The autism spectrum has levels that can range from mild, moderate to severe. Although people diagnosed with ASD may have delays in the above mentioned areas, some maybe highly skilled in their mathematical, artistic, musical & spacial abilities which could also be identified as savants. People with autism may learn & engage differently but should be treated the same…just with a lil more patience & understanding.🤗 They are AWESOME individuals with superpowers. Ask me how I know?
