Australia went into #covidlockdown 3 days after I left the island. I was only meant to be gone a short time so I left Luna with @lucyd90 on the island but when the world seemed to shut down and it looked like I wasn't going to get back to her anytime soon, we made the decision to put her on a plane and bring her to Darwin. Here is Luna enjoying her last run on the beach on the island before hoping on a plane and moving into town. The Best Way to Bury Your Husband By Alexia Casale 🗣️Quick Thoughts: Hilariously dark! 📄Review: Based on the tittle I knew this book would be a bit dark and I was ok with that. But anyone wanting to read this one should know going in that if domestic abuse is a trigger for you just put this one down now. The plot revolves around multiple women who’ve escaped their abusive spouses in the most harrowing way possible, murder. Clearly we all know that’s awful, but it’s hard to feel bad for the “victims” considering the physical, mental, and emotional harm they put their wives and families through. Casale set her book during the beginning of the COVID lockdowns which I found extremely poignant. I don’t think enough attention or resources were put towards those facing lockdown with their abusers during that time. You do have to suspend your disbelief for this book to work as the scenarios of how the women linked up and hid their spouses demise is quite outlandish. However, the relationships between each wife and her abuser as well as their reasons for staying despite their imminent danger was incredibly realistic and well written. The friendships the women formed after realizing how alike their situations are despite being from different walks of life is truly heartwarming. There is a “gotcha” moment at the end that while I had a feeling it was coming about a third of the way through the book still made me laugh out loud! NATIVE ARTISTS DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC - During the COVID Lockdown in April 2020, the Museum of Indigenous People presented a worldwide creative coloring contest featuring a new illustration by Hopi artist Abel Nash @abelnashart (Village of Walpi, Corn Clan). Abel had already created the museum's new dawa artwork and generously offered to not only provide the drawing for this coloring contest but also, act as judge for the entries sent in. The prizes we offered included: * Adult Prize (21 & up) - $100, plus a painting by Abel Nash * Teen Prize (12 to 20 years old) - $50 * Junior Prize (7 to 11 years old) - $25 * Tiny Tot (0 to 6 years old) - $25 Folks near and, in some cases, very far from, Everybody's Hometown of Prescott, AZ, got to work with their coloring. A very nice break from the very challenging times we were all living in. It is a challenge that the Bangladeshi photographer Mohammad Shahnewaz Khan [ @shahnewazphotos ] has grappled with for over a decade. From child labour and elder neglect to the Rohingya refugee crisis, he has approached each project from the point of view of being immersed among. The body of work for which he is perhaps currently best known internationally is an uncompromising exploration of his family life during the Covid-19 lockdown. Unflinchingly, he examines the daily trials and tensions of an extended family of six parents and their children living in an enclosed space. It was also a time when he became poignantly aware of his own shortcomings. It takes courage to face up to one’s failings, even more so to reveal them publicly as he does. Four years without you ❤️💔 this is my Nan… Marjorie Edith Wilson. I couldn’t have asked for a greater Nan. She was kind, wise, and overflowing with love. She was at every dance concert and every award ceremony. She told me amazing stories and listened to all my joys and sorrows. I deeply miss her. Nan passed away just a few weeks into the first Covid lockdown. She was in hospital when she passed away, so we weren’t allowed to visit her. I didn’t get to kiss her, hug her, or hold her hand and say goodbye. But the Lord gave me a great blessing. I was the last person who spoke to her on the phone. She couldn’t speak back… but I know she was listening. In that conversation I shared with her Jesus’ words… “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). After I spoke those words, she breathed her last. I don’t know with certainty what was in my Nan’s heart when she died. But knowing that those were the last words she heard brings me great comfort. Comfort in God… who is perfectly loving, perfectly merciful, perfectly good, and perfectly just. One year after Nan’s passing, we welcome Penelope Marjorie Townsend into the world. Penny is only 3… but I see so much of Nan in her. TW Self Harm. At the beginning of the darkest tunnel, and at the other side. Four years ago I was hospitalised for my biggest, and so far last, SH episode, where I went so deep I lost the feeling in half of my arm as a result. People can say I misinterpret or mischaracterize my alterego or I'm not an anime character or I should grow up all they like. Food for Thought Why am I feeling down? Isolation since the Covid epidemic has left many people depressed and alone. The trend of working at home, never having to get dressed up or fix our appearance, the ability to have everything delivered has some people rarely leaving home. Many people suffering this isolation get stuck in patterns: We eat poor food choices, get little movement sitting at a job then moving to the couch in the evening, drinking things like soda, stay up late scrolling social media to replace missing real life connections. Sitting at home in sweats or PJs, barely leaving the house, it’s isolating . This will leave you depressed, no wonder many people aren’t feeling well. I think the current mostly at home workforce idea may be saving companies money but has led many people into bad habits and depression. No longer forced to keep a schedule, fix ourselves up decently, move around, be around people, and live life outside our homes makes it easy for people to self isolate. I remember my kids during Covid, they literally would wake up, laying flat in bed, turn on their computer and be at school. Any stay laying all day. Many companies will not change back, the cost savings are too great. You have to make the effort if you work from home still, like I do. I do get to see clients everyday. I go to the gym and have a large social network there, that’s huge mentally for me. I like to get out and shop for things at brick and mortar stores. I get out and move and make effort to have friends and things to do outside of the house. I do need to be better about doing things outdoors when the weather warms up. It takes effort, and the gym can be an easy start...and will help you take the first steps to health and wellness if you try...your body will thank you.
