Six months ago I was bracing myself for my annual challenge, that of winter swimming without a wetsuit. And almost in the blink of an eye it's over. Already the sea temperature is beginning to rise, no longer taking my breath away although not yet warm. Made it to 6 months swimming 1000 strokes a day. Too many hours sitting crocheting and I needed to move. I didn't start with the intention of becoming a cold water swimmer, I just want to swim, but it seems I'm adjusting to the cold. Water temp is now 15deg. So peaceful paddling with the cormorants and ducks. Absolutely loving it. My advice if you spend a lot of hours sitting for work or craft is make sure you move. I'm having to overcome major hip pain which I'm putting down to too many hours sitting as well as osteoarthritis. When I swim I'm pain free. I'm also adding resistance band exercises, stretches from the physio and some yoga. 🍁This must’ve been one of the most perfect mornings we’ve had in a long time. Water was dead calm and the sun divine. Thank you to @sue_ratter for lending me this full face snorkel mask to try. It was really weird swimming without turning my head to breathe but the vision was amazing! It does alleviate ice-cream headache and sinus freeze, although at 15°C it’s really not bad anyway at the moment. Once the temperature really drops it would be very useful if you’re not acclimatised to swimming distance in cold water. Rhiwargor Waterfall…a very muddy/rocky and steep climb up to the higher pools but beautiful when you get there. I'm just about to head down for my Day 158 #dailyswim #1000strokesaday It's become as routine as crocheting daily. I have a little routine now, my walk to beach, in I go for my 1000 strokes. Counting is a meditation in itself. When I finish I have a few stretches the osteo suggested that I do in the water, (saves me falling 🤣) then my treat is to float and I have a gratitude mantra as I do that. When I come out, I have a few more stretches I do and I'm now finishing with some thumpy thumpy massage along meridian lines, before the walk back up hill to get showered and ready to take the fluffy gang out, they have been snoring while I'm gone 🐾 Weather is still mild but I'm hoping to continue over winter. Evenings are when the hook comes out. #sunsets #keepingmobile
