I’ve been in the gym since I was 14 and intentionally bodybuilding for over a decade. And yet I still wake up sometimes and feel like an imposter. Bodybuilding for me is not about looking a certain way; it’s about feeling a certain way and as I get older it’s about being able to live a long, complete, full life and being able to get around and enjoy things just as much 30 years from now as I do now. I work at it every day. If I’m not in the gym, my rest days are intentional and I’m food prepping and focused on getting rest and steps and all that. And when I am in the gym, I don’t cheat and I don’t cut corners. I give as much as I can give every time I’m there. I do all this and yet some days I still feel like an impostor. I got the opportunity recently to shoot with @seannelsonphoto exactly 10 years to the weekend of my very first show. I remember, stepping on that stage the first time and in all the emotions and feelings that I felt that day, the one thing I didn’t feel was like an imposter. I felt like I found where I belong. So 10 years later being able to shoot with someone and take a look at the back of his camera and say, “Wow! I look like an athlete!” That’s winning in my book. Even if I never step on stage again (which I will), but even if I didn’t, and even if I never took home another trophy, I can be proud of what I built and not just width or thickness or strength, but internally in my discipline in my lifestyle. I was told recently by someone that I was too rigid and that I’m selfish. But I think some things in life you have to be selfish about. Your peace, your energy, your time. Be selfish. Is it actually selfish or is it self preservation? Not everybody will understand and that’s OK. This to me was a meh-de-la-meh-meh book. So let me explain this...... I wanted so much more from this book! Although this book is about Judy's inspiring, informative take on embracing "the" next stage of life, (60 yrs and over) I was surprised that she used quotes and circumstance from well known people, throughout her book (alot of name dropping) which didn't sit very well with me, infact it bloody well irked me so much, it just seemed so un-natural. So much, "such n such quoted this n that". I dnf'd this book because of it, infact I would have hurled it across the room, but figured it wasn't worth that type of energy. It was like ..... "oh I will just mention you in my book" (I'm wondering whether they will get any royalties for that) Judy must have seived through heaps of footage media wise as well ..... just saying 😁 However, in saying that if you are looking for inspiring quotes throughout, and you don't mind the "he said, she said," then sure, give this book a go ..... these will definitely see you through as these are thoughtful and useful, just that I was after something more personal, that's all. Alot of the book is about common sense really, and if you wanting more of a "refreshing of ideas that you had forgotten about" then definitely pick this book up. From clothes advice for pear shaped people, money matters, to the dreaded lurgy of "retirement" that as you grow older gets swept under the carpet, to health, to superfoods you should be eating, .... it's all kittencaboodle. . Saw @malloryhearse and me hanging out in the dark last night omw to the car leaving @jimfrankenstein’s place with @fuschnikt. (They are @theverybaddays go listen and follow plz) Jim has the coolest and coziest rehearsal studio/hangout space and it legit felt like highschool hanging out with friends losing track of time talking about stuff until close to midnight.
