I first got into open water swimming / dipping just before the first lockdown 🏊♀️ Swimming in pools, rivers and waterfalls brings me so much joy. It makes me calm and relaxed. It stops my brain from going 100 miles an hour. I've also found it useful for headaches and migraines, which i get. I know when I haven't been in the water for awhile because my head hurts more! During the first lockdown, I lost all my outdoor work. So I spent hours, and I mean hours on Google Earth, trying to find these amazing, wild swimming spots that I would one day go to 🗺 This year, I decided I needed to find more of these spots that I found and discovered on Google Earth and I was over the moon when I found this one. Wild swim location #29 of 100 📍 Cwmwenderi Reaervoir Setting myself the challenge of 100 wild swim locations in 2024 Also known as Goytre Reservoir and nicknamed The Blue Pool. Supposedly for the bright blue waters on a sunny day Unfortunately when I visited on an extremely overcast day so this wasn’t something I witnessed However this was still a gorgeous location. Getting in here was quite sketchy, the floor was super slippy and very sloped giving way quite suddenly to the deep and cold waters

Trying to increase the sea swimming training time whilst the weather seems to be getting colder! Aim was 2 x 45 min sea swims with a warm up in between. Swim 1 was 45 mins, 2.2 km. Got claw hands. Then marmalade buns and coffee. 90 mins later back in for swim 2. Hands didn’t get so cold so swam for 52 mins, 2.6km. Lots of shivering after but had soup and pasta and a very fast walk up the hill to warm up. Spring has sprung but the air temperature hadn’t got the message early Friday morning, hovering at 4C. The sunshine played peekaboo with the clouds but the birds were singing full blast at our old favourite swim spot that we’ve left unvisited for too long. Check – clean – dry. Pick up litter every time you swim (even if its not yours and even if its tiny) Leave no trace – goes without saying but if you forget your bra and pants go back for them. Be sensitive to locals / homes near by with noise levels – especially early morning squeals. If a swim spot is suffering from overuse or can not sustain large visitor numbers, don’t promote it on social media. Keep secret spots secret.
