We have some new arrivals and need your help to name them! To enter the naming contest, donate $1 or more by 4/30, along with your name choice(s). We have five animals to be named and you could even be chosen to name more than one animal! Donation links in bio. The chickens were part of a large rescue done by Animal Place. They were able to rescue 614 chickens who were slated to be killed at an organic egg farm just because they are two years old and aren’t laying quite as many eggs now. The pigeons came from SF Animal Care and Control. They were rescued and brought there by mistake from someone from a different county. Saturday, April 27, 2024 - An amazing group of people showed up today to plant some seeds about veganism! We got a lot of honks of approval and thumbs ups. Sadly, a young man passing by on his motorcycle had an accident in front of us. So many people jumped into action, the police and firefighters were called, and it seems he was okay. It's been a hive of activity here the past couple of days. We have Dan, Rob, and Dave on the fencing, and I have Kerstin and Tobias here from Germany for the week, helping me out with other jobs around the sanctuary. I can't even explain the difference a hands on, motivated team of people at the sanctuary makes. It would be a different place altogether if we could find helpers more often. Once this new lot of paddock construction is completed, we can free up the area we need to start growing some fresh food for the pigs, and alleviate some of these crazy pig feeding costs. I clearly see my previous conditioned self through these words. We wonder ‘what’s wrong with people?’ as violence escalates world wide, in schools, places of business & worship. They ask us to notice that the rise in violence in man coincides w/the rise of violence towards animals. The scale of each is in tandem. Consuming violence is a karmic collision course. Poppy isn't feeling well so is living in the bathroom for awhile. I noticed her poops were very runny and she wasn't as active as normal. Then Sunday she stopped eating, which is a definite sign she's unwell. She visited the vet on Monday and received fluids and an antibiotic injection as well as antibiotics twice a day this week. She did start eating again but still is mostly lying down. If she doesn't improve, next steps are X-rays and blood work. We believe that chickens deserve veterinary care just like dogs and cats. So many people with chickens let them suffer if they are ill or injured. Chickens feel pain and fear as well as happiness. Even though the vet is an hour away (and the specialist is on the other side of the state!), it's our obligation to provide the best care we can for our sanctuary family. Y’all, fitting the mold is overrated! I used to try to do that and it led me to heartache and chaos. Once I learned to follow the calling of my heart, everything got better. I stopped worrying about whether I was pleasing someone else by following their path and just got down to the wonderful, enormous task of living my life authentically. I shudder to think where I would be today if I had continued to try to fit into a society that views animal slaughter as normal. I can’t stress enough how my eyes were opened by veganism. It watered this poor little seed in my heart that finally had the right conditions to grow- and boy has it yielded fruit. I have found my people, my purpose, my chosen animal family and I wake up and go to bed every day with love in my heart no matter what life throws at me. That’s what happens when you truly follow your heart. Sure, there are still problems, there are obstacles, but you always have the fire to solve and overcome them! I wouldn’t trade this path for anything! Thankfully, all I have had to give up is the fear of being different. In giving that up, I have received so many blessings. I encourage y’all to do the same. Are you following your heart? How can you get yourself closer to a life of authenticity and purpose? It was after a devastating animal communication connection with a dairy cow that my journey to self-educate about animal agriculture began. She told me things I did not know that I later learned were true. I saw undercover footage from factory farms and slaughterhouses that broke me. But my discomfort is nothing compared to what cows, pigs, chickens, lambs, etc. endure. I really don’t know too much. I know the truth. And the truth is never too much. The truth behind animal ag stands on its own. It’s unwavering. It doesn’t sway or change based on one’s feelings or beliefs. The truth is in the undercover footage from factory farms, slaughterhouses, circus animal trainings, sea world trainings, or animal transport vehicles where they are driven up to 3 days with no water in all weather. The truth is learning about the psychological damage from the workers themselves who are undocumented and early releases from prisons. That the freedom working in a slaughterhouse offers is better than where they came from. I’m a voice FOR animals. Yours & the unseen, enslaved. I am the conduit between companion animals who are in active transition and their human to convey wishes and messages so all can be at ease with how and when they choose to go. And connect you to your dearly departed. I help people who are pulled to get off the meat/dairy train because they do love animals. All of them, not just companion animals. Or they want better health. I’ve done the work & taken the whole-food plant-based course to be able to mentor those in a way that leads to success, not quitting because they’re eating boring processed plant-based foods and are devoid of taste and nutrients. Peace is knowing you’re not funding any animal abuse. Once the body is off animals, the cleaner the quality of thinking, feeling, and knowing we have. We can suddenly see the whale who was born into captivity who has never swam the open ocean hundreds of straight miles never seeing the same thing twice. Gizmo was the sweetest and gentlest of giants. When grazing in the pasture that he loved, he looked like a big black bear in the distance. He was smart, cuddly and loved his best friend Penny with all his heart. She died a few weeks before his passing and a part of me believes that his will to live and to overcome his horrible arthritic condition, languished after she passed away. Gizmo was about 9 years old and was bred to be pork, bacon etc. Pigs grow to enormous sizes because of the breeding conditions that make their bodies so large their joints struggle to support their weight. Gizmo was on medication for years for his arthritis and struggled to walk on occasion but his will to live was so strong. He loved his life—HIS LIFE. The vet came out 3 times to see him. We had him on many different pain management protocols but he kept getting worse and had little desire to get up. Gizmo was destined, like so many other animals, to be sold at auction after serving as an FFA “project” - meaning he would be killed and his body chopped up into pieces and sold in a grocery store. Thankfully, Alena was one of those unique teens who was able to see through the lies and propaganda of the animal ag industry working through FFA. She saw Gizmo’s soul and the two developed a strong bond. Alena came for a visit and I told her we would take Gizmo in if she agreed to stop being in the FFA and came to visit him regularly. And Alena did! She brought friends and family to see Gizmo too, helping them to understand that the animals we farm are just the same in love and sentience as the pets we dote on in our homes. My love and respect always to Alena and other young folks like her who are capable of accessing the deeper truths of their hearts. Our sweet Gizmo was loved by all, especially by Alena, Ann and Leah. I hope you’re rolling in the mud with your friend Penny now, happy and at peace. Rowdy Girl Sanctuary is a haven for farmed animals and educational hub. Yesterday we had a private tour with Marijanne and Catherine. These guys drove a whopping SEVENTEEN HOURS from way down on the NSW/VICTORIAN border, just for us! Was it worth it? Absolutely! Heart disease got the best of our sweet Lorna. 😔 A couple days ago, she had to be taken to the ER as (in short) excess fluid in her abdomen started putting her into respiratory distress. Her medications were no longer enough. After discussions with the veterinarian, we made the difficult decision to euthanize. She was taken too soon, but we are grateful that we were able to provide a loving, caring, safe space for her with new hen friends for just under a year. She was rescued, along with several others, by @chickenbuttmicrosanctuary from a neglectful, hoarding situation. We adopted Lorna as we had the capacity to care for another special needs, heart disease girl. And I sure think we can all get behind that statement. I mean, really? How are you going to justify that your momentary taste pleasure is more important than the entire life and conscious experience of an individual animal?? That’s psychopathic! We are not wild animals! We have grocery stores! Stop live action role playing that you are a frontiersman or a lion! It’s utterly ridiculous. Humanity is defined, at its best, by its moral reasoning and technological advancement. We have big old brains that can think us out of all kinds of problems. If you use this brain to justify killing an innocent being because you like the taste or convenience??? You’re using logic that has justified some of the worst moral atrocities of our time. Oh, and stop saying vegans are part of a conspiracy. That’s absurd - a whopping 3% of Americans are estimated to be vegan. How are you going to say that this tiny vegan minority is an elaborate conspiracy? Thinking that way just means Big Ag has you bamboozled. Sorry, it’s true. This is Babe. An 18 month old Landrace pig saved from slaughter as a baby. She is just like our beautiful Mousey! Babe is seeking a family to love her forever. She has lots of love to give and is a sweet girl, but needs a big paddock with secure fencing suitable for big pigs. She is currently sad because she is being contained in a small pen. The current fencing isn't suitable for her and her people have been told she needs to go 😢 If you could offer Babe a loving home and have suitable infrastructure for piggies, please contact us. Y’all, I have seen some of the darkest parts of humanity. Never have I seen the brutality coming from a farmed animal that I have personally experienced coming from a human being. I know animals have and show aggression - but not to the diabolical extent of the human race. The animals I know have different personalities with differing tendencies but they are never sadistic. When they are treated with love and kindness and feel safe and secure, they are absolute sweeties, each in their own way. I would like to think this is true of humanity as well, but looking back does give me pause. Some folks just seem beyond redemption in this life. Maybe I’m wrong and I hope so. But I will keep my distance and let them work that out with God while I’m hanging with the animals and folks who have honored and cultivated the brighter parts of their nature. Going vegan and sober truly has helped me access these bright parts. Walking this road has allowed me to both soften and strengthen and grow into a better version of myself, one who can trust more fully AND gauge more accurately who to trust. And I love this community of ethical vegan angels I have found. Y’all lift me up daily and challenge me to keep learning and growing. Let’s keep enlarging our circle and shedding light on the most brutal and unnecessary murder of life on planet earth. I remember when I was 16 my mother called the school saying I couldn’t and wouldn’t dissect a frog, and could I do something else? I did something else. It was expected to be okay to cut up a carcass and poke around their body parts then go home and eat already cut up body parts. Then love and play with the dog. Because society assigned family status to her. I’m sure I went home after not being able to cut up a frog and ate parts of another animal someone else cut up for me. Then loved my cat. I was in the throes of carnism: the invisible belief system that allows us to eat and wear some animals & assign higher status to others. We didn’t choose any of it. I could never had eaten a cow I locked eyes with. But I absolutely could have eaten a cow someone else did and presented her flesh and fluids to me in neatly packaged containers with familiar marketing, slogans, and branding I recognized. I communicated with animals then as I do now. I was also in deep with the world’s view of profiting from animals. Even though they were ‘all the same’ to me. Commodify some, assign family status to others. Oppose dog factory farms & fund other factory farms by eating + wearing cows and pigs. Then the frog. I had a visceral hard no and my mother knew it. She knew even if she didn’t understand it all. She was a nurse. Dissecting a frog wasn’t a big deal for her. But she knew my heart and that I’d either fail biology or help me get credit a peaceful way. Carnism is systemic psychological conditioning. As ‘isms’ are. We don’t have choices at birth. Someone else feeds us until we can ourselves. Until someone sees the hypocrisy in it all - and re-aligns their choices by extending their compassion to all animals. In hindsight, the frog was also one of my early messengers. Commodifying animals takes extreme oppression and brutal, unethical practices. If there were windows in slaughterhouses, their ruse would be over. But we see and know now. No one can make us participate in something we deeply don’t believe in. My passion is helping ppl who feel pulled toward peace. And it begins on the plate. It FEELS aligned because it is. 🙏🏻🌱🕊️
