Beautiful Rosie, enjoying the sun with her best friend Mukti. 🐓☀️🐓 Rosie and Mukti are factory farm survivors. Factory farms are where most animals are bred, genetically modified and produced in mass numbers to be killed in a short amount of time for meat, egg and dairy consumers. Factory farms exist to maximize production at a low cost. If Rosie and Mukti hadn’t been rescued by @revolution_philadelphia, their lives would have ended at 6-8 weeks old. Just babies. The living conditions in factory farms are miserable. Low ventilation, crowded, live animals are among the sick, wounded and dead. It’s where the majority of meat, dairy and eggs come from. And a lot of disease. If you saw the inside of these gigantic, windowless buildings of suffering, you would stop eating these animals and their byproducts. . Rosie and Mukti are two of the very lucky birds who escaped death. Rosie was on a transport truck en route to the slaughter house and Mukti was taken directly from a factory farm in DE that was closing. This particular factory farm had shut down their ventilators to suffocate the animals inside. A mass killing to end their business. It’s mind blowing to know how animals and their by products are produced. And nothing stops these companies from putting happy animals in pastures on their labels. It’s brainwashing. . Most people who use rodenticides have no idea about the risk to wildlife and pets; they think that bait-covering prevents other animals from being poisoned. In reality no amount of bait covering makes the slightest difference. After a rodent partakes, it stumbles around for three to four days, displaying itself as an especially tempting meal not just for raptors but for mammalian predators, including red foxes, gray foxes, endangered San Joaquin kit foxes, swift foxes, coyotes, wolves, raccoons, black bears, skunks, badgers, mountain lions, bobcats, fishers, dogs, and house cats—all of which suffer lethal and sublethal secondary poisoning from eating rodents. The EPA reports that Ireland’s agriculture sector was directly responsible for 38.4% of our GHG emissions in 2022, mainly methane from farm animals, nitrogen fertiliser and manure management. Animal farming also presents serious risks for antibiotic resistance and the transmission of zoonotic diseases such as Covid19. Our sweet Kako has passed away. Although she had all the will and courage, her little body found it all too much. I held her until her last breath and thanked her for being part of our family and for bringing joy and smiles to so many. Kako came to our sanctuary this time last year after having lost her bonded partner. As Guinea pigs are social animals, Kako had become depressed and withdrawn, so her family wanted her to be with other guinea pigs and contacted us. We agreed to take her in as a sanctuary piggy and so she came to live with us. Once Kako warmed up she blossomed into the social, funny and loving character we all got to know and love. People seemed to connect with her as she gave them the chance to see guinea pigs as the little beings they are with characters, funny habits, emotions and feelings just like us. Thankfully Kako wasn’t shy of the camera, so I have captured many wonderful moments of her time here on the farm, which I will continue to post here and there. Pigs are killed using CO2 gas chambers and are always slaughtered from ages 5-6months. That’s so little, that’s a child being murdered so we can have what exactly? A bacon sandwich? Fish feel pain and are killed in the TRILLIONS each year. Even if we say they aren’t feel no pain, or don’t experience it the way “humans do” they’ve still experienced more pain and torture to out number us by generations.
