Saturday Breakfast : Noolputtu/Idiyyappam (Rice string hoppers) with thakkali chutney. Recipe for chutney: 1.Chop 2 medium sized onions and 3 large tomatoes roughly. Blend it well in a mixer. You can add one or two green chillies if you like it spicy. 2. Heat oil in a wok. Splutter mustard seeds, urad daal, curry leaves. Pour the onion-tomato paste to it. Be careful as it will be quite explosive 😁 3. Add salt, a pinch of turmeric powder and red chilli powder. 4. Saute well till it is cooked well. Today’s One Pot Meal Idea is a traditional dish from south of India which also became popular in Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Indonesia. Iddiyappam or the Rice String Hoppers or Putu is usually a staple breakfast. But I like to have it in the evenings. By now you know that my evenings are somewhat busy so I like to keep it simple, quick and filling. So instead of having it with a curry, I like to make temper it mustard, curry leaves, red chillies and either add coconut 🥥 or lemon 🍋 juice to it. I also add some roasted peanuts 🥜 for the crunch. Luckily I get fresh iddiyappam every weekend and I buy the red rice one as I like its taste more than the white rice one. You can also use vermicelli as a replacement. Second credits to my Dear Hubby for helping with Pressing the Sevai 😛 Thirdly I made them as it was my big little boys Birthday yesterday 😃. No celebration as such....( being together at home is the most Beautiful thing) But with more Prayers and Puja and dishing out whatever childrens favorite happens to be . Yesterday I didn't cook ay stew as I had no coconuts.. So no. Sweet coconut milk too.. Instead I opted to make a very simple gravy filled with Fresh Sweet corns which I stripped peeled happily from the cobs, Cauliflower, green peas, carrots.. 1 potato.. A delicious gravy and Vermicilli Kheer.. Milk exhausted as my Birthday boy had fed 5 dogs with all milk and My cooked millets happily.. Thankfully Amul milk carton to the rescue and viola the Kheer laced with Saffron & slivered Almonds.. Thank you Pallavi for this Amazing Press.. A Breakfast so lite .. Steam cooked Rice String hoppers hommade with help of @saraswathysridhara .. And with a beautiful seasoning of Gingelli oil, hing, channadhal, peanuts, ( cashews can be added too) mustard, methi seeds, grated ginger, red and green fresh chillies, one split byadgi, Red and green bell peppers diced, cooked green peas, turmeric, curry leaves, salt to taste.. A generous squeeze of lime.. Coriander was khalas today.. So.. It's okay.. While serving we sprinkle Chutney powder and eat with little dahi.. Really nice. it was a lovely feeling to share this wonderful Breakfast with those in need. I would not like to mention it in elaborate as best things done many times are only in silence.
