I thought I better add a little update here seeing as we have 20 days left before we move into the van full time. It has been a long (almost 3 years) since we bought him and a lot of starting and stopping, learning & changing but we are almost done and I think we might have a record for the longest van build in history 🤣🤦🏻♀️ It is all very very exciting and although we move in beginning of June, Lee is working until end of June so will be sticking around locally until then. We hope to also document a lot more of our travelling and learning as we go. Me 4 years ago could only dream of this and it is finally here. I am especially looking forward to having less stuff. I couldn't wait to get in the water yesterday afternoon. After a busy morning spent in Stirling which is far too peopley and the mirad of itchy midgey bites covering my arms and legs, sinking into the cold dark loch was bliss. We've had some substantial rainfall over the last few days and the Loch has swelled back up to its usual volume. As you push out from shore you can feel the cold waters swell up from deep below the shelf of the loch where the sides suddenly plummet away and all that's below you is a pitch black void. It sounds scary when I phrase it like that but it's not. I love it when the water is like this. It's like swimming through the night sky into myself. The person who I truly am without all the stress and the brain noise, the constant replays and the self doubt.

The Isle of Mull is somewhere I have wanted to visit for ages and I was so pleased when the weather gods made it happen when we had enough time to make the journey worthwhile. We stayed at honesty box sites across the whole island, each of them was amazing in their own way, but how can you not love waking up next to a highland coo!! There were about 10 teenagers running around and playing with each other, who needs TV when you have that outside your window! For anyone heading over I recommend a stay at Ardchaiveg farm, £5pppn, a really friendly welcome and a wool weaver, which sadly wasn’t open while we were there or I’ve bought the lot. Continuing our travels around the coast of Dumfries and Galloway, our next stop was the pretty harbour of Port William. While there, we learnt about the Inshore Rescue Service Action Committee formed by the people of the village to get their own lifeboat. Thanks to their efforts the independent lifeboat has been in service for more than 40 years. SCOTLAND 🏴 you are incredible 💙 what an adventure… I didn’t quite realised how rugged and wild and beautiful it was going to be! Thank you so much for all the recommendations… we literally planned our entire trip around them and they did not disappoint! We climbed mountains, wild camped in some incredible spots, saw a snake… and some eagles 🦅 thought we heard an alien that turned out to be a snipe hunting (a bird), swam/washed in waterfalls and discovered some incredible white sand beaches! Briefly turning the driveway into a campsite because we can't coordinate our leave to actually get away 🤦🏼♀️😭... Here is the real-world problem when you back-to-back shifts to keep childcare costs down and your leave is allocated at different times. Throw in an 8 day working week over 24 hours a day and a Mon-Fri school schedule and we are lucky if we have one full weekend off together a year 🤦🏼♀️ Last year I was really 'on it' with arranging shift-swaps to align time off together but it meant a lot of 60+ hour working weeks and sometimes not seeing hubs for weeks at a time... honestly I just can't bring myself to do it again just yet. So, I've been adventuring close to home lately, and luckily we live somewhere amazing with so much on our doorstep, but the camping itch is real, and I do need to find a way- there are still too many places we need to explore!!! 🇨🇭 Heute brechen wir in Richtung London auf. 👍 Von Edinburgh aus nehmen wir eine Schnellstrasse in Küstennähe, die uns zum Alnwick Castle führt. Unterwegs kommen wir am Bass Rock, einer unbewohnten Felseninsel vorbei. 🏝 Die Schlossanlage von Alnwick ist nach dem Schloss von Windsor der zweitgrösste Adelssitz Englands und diente als Kulisse für unzählige Filme und Serien wie beispielsweise Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, Transformers und Robin Hood. 🏰 Wir unternehmen einen Spaziergang über die nahe gelegene Wiese, von der aus wir einen fantastischen Blick auf das gesamte Schloss haben. 📷 Anschliessend sehen wir uns das Zentrum der schönen, historischen Stadt an und kaufen ein paar Kleinigkeiten ein. 🛒 Dann setzen wir unsere Reise fort. Kurz vor Scarborough finden wir einen tollen Schlafplatz mit Sicht auf das Meer. 😍 Wir sitzen noch lange draussen, bis es zu kühl wird. ☀️ 🇬🇧 Today we set off for London. 👍 From Edinburgh, we take a fast road near the coast, which leads us to Alnwick Castle. On the way, we pass Bass Rock, an uninhabited rocky island. 🏝 Alnwick Castle is the second largest aristocratic residence in England after Windsor Castle and has served as the backdrop for countless films and series such as Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, Transformers and Robin Hood. 🏰 We take a walk across the nearby meadow, from where we have a fantastic view of the entire castle. 📷 Afterwards, we take a look at the center of the beautiful, historic town and buy a few little things. 🛒 Then we continue our journey. 🇨🇭 Heute ist es wieder bewölkt und neblig. Wir beschliessen daher, den kürzesten Weg nach Edinburgh zu nehmen. Einen Teil dieser Strecke kennen wir von unserer letzten Reise nach Schottland, als wir den Fernwanderweg West Highland Way mit dem Zelt und unseren Hunden absolviert haben. 🐾 Kurz vor Edinburgh machen wir einen Abstecher nach Falkirk zu den Kelpies. Diese beiden Skulpturen aus rostfreiem Stahl, die jeweils rund 30 m hoch sind und Wassergeister in Pferdegestalt darstellen, stehen in dem 2013 eröffneten Park 'The Helix'. 🐴 Am frühen Nachmittag erreichen wir schliesslich Edinburgh. Wir finden relativ zentrumsnah einen Parkplatz, auf dem wir auch übernachten können. Er befindet sich am Fusse des Calton Hill. Dieser hundert Meter hoher Vulkanhügel bietet einen atemberaubenden Panoramablick auf die Hauptstadt Schottlands. 😍 Nach dem Abstieg schlendern wir entlang der Royal Mile zum Edinburgh Castle. 🏰 Am Abend gehen wir lecker essen und gönnen uns 2, 3 Drinks in einem Pub mit Live-Musik. 🎸 🇬🇧 It's cloudy and foggy again today. We therefore decide to take the shortest route to Edinburgh. We know part of this route from our last trip to Scotland, when we completed the West Highland Way long-distance hiking trail with our tent and our dogs. 🐾 Shortly before Edinburgh, we make a detour to Falkirk to visit the Kelpies. These two stainless steel sculptures, each around 30 m high and depicting water spirits in the shape of horses, are located in 'The Helix' park, which opened in 2013. 🐴 We finally reach Edinburgh in the early afternoon. We find a parking lot relatively close to the city center where we can spend the night. It is located at the foot of Calton Hill. Been quiet the last day or so as this little one has got some teeth coming through and has needed a lot of cuddles and affection We managed to get out to the park for a bit, but he really just wanted to cwtch up and chill. So we went back to the van, put the gruffalo and snail and the whale in my phone and chilled with a pile of snacks He’s so affectionate, but even more so when he needs a bit of comfort I love that I can give him the comfort he needs and that he already knows he can rely on me to help him and comfort him whenever he needs it It is an aim of mine, to ensure he knows that when he’s in trouble, when he needs help, when he’s made a mistake, it just needs a shoulder to cry on, no matter what age he is, he can run to me and my arms will always be open #babyboy #teething #vanlifescotland
