Does it feel a long way down to your toes? 😆 Often one of the first things we notice when we are not attending our usual Pilates or Yoga class regularly is stiffness and tightness creeping back into our body. Perhaps it's when we try to get our shoes on or pick up something  from the floor or just getting up from sitting to standing - wow - it feels locked up! This may have you wondering why do you feel so much better when you stretch? Well… 🙆‍♀️ Firstly stretching helps to clear your mind by allowing you to focus on your body. Stretching can be a great way to centre and prepare yourself physically and mentally either for a busy day a head or to put down worries in order to be ready for sleep.  🙆 Stretching releases our 'happy' endorphins. This is because the movement activates your parasympathetic nervous system aka the system generally responsible for your body's ability to rest, digest, and recover. 🙆‍♂️ Blood flow to the muscles increases after a long stretch and this helps to remove toxins and bring fresh oxygen and nutrients to help awaken our muscles.  🙆‍♀️ Tight, tense muscles begin to create aches and pains that can be very uncomfortable and upsetting. Gently moving your joints will help to gradually bring mobility and flexibility back to all the tissue around the painful area, helping you feel better, as well as improve your alignment and posture. Sunday bumday brought to you by my movement session at the park yesterday. To keep your body healthy and strong, you need to correct the imbalances caused by sitting all day at a desk and performing repetitive movements.
