The miscommunication trope is definitely one of my least favorites but it seemed to work for me in this book. Theo is literally the BEST friend, he’s so supportive, even I fell in love with him. Book Review 📖🪼🎧 Devil Is Fine by John Vercher Thank you so much @celadonbooks @macmillan.audio @netgalley for the free ARC & audiobook. Blurb: A poignant story of what it means to be a father, a son, a writer, and a Biracial American fighting to reconcile the past. ✨ My thoughts: Oh my goodness, this book. When I wasn’t reading, I was listening to it and I powered through this story without coming up for air. I was not expecting to feel as much as I did, but John Vercher put so much heart into this book, it’s impossible not to feel it. As a mother, this was an absolute nightmare, tearing my heart right out of my chest. This story is one to read or listen to, and I’ll be recommending it to everyone. Dion Graham narrated the audiobook and did a phenomenal job. He really conveyed this story in a way that was raw and compelling. Good morning ☕️ Recently, I had a solo trip for errands but first, I went to @barnesandnoble to drink coffee and work on some things that I needed to do without interruption. It was magical ✨ I’ve been cutting myself off from buying myself books (this does not include my two book subscriptions) and so far it’s looking good! This little haul was before my cut off and I made sure to limit myself to ONLY books on sale and the $5 cafe book. So far, I’ve read 2 out of 5… and currently reading 2 more from this haul. That’s freaking good considering some book hauls sit on my shelf for a while 😬 It’s only May 9th but I’m smashing book goals already, I even skipped one subscription! Now with that being said, I enjoyed this story! I loved the story and character set up (and there’s quite a few characters). I have to say there is a lot happening, which isn’t a bad thing but for me as a newb to fantasy, I feel like I could benefit from reading it a second time to get it all. Reading Black Sun was quite the experience… truly immersing you into a new world. Rebecca Roanhorse has a gift for storytelling and ending on a cliffhanger only solidifies that I was to be read the second installment of this trilogy. With multiple POVs, exclusivity, and a beautiful setting, this is a book all sorts of readers will enjoy. The Author’s note was perfection. I appreciate how this book was written, with a lot of care. This book was eye opening for me and very rich with history and information. Book Review 📖🎧✨ The Husbands by Holly Gramazio Thank you so much @prhaudio and @doubledaybooks for the free audiobook and ARC. Blurb: The Husbands delights in a how do we navigate life, love, and choice in a world of never ending options? ✨ My thoughts: I love magical realism and I loved The Husbands! I could not read this fast enough. If I wasn’t reading it, I was listening to it and both versions were fantastic! I don’t think I could have chosen just one, and luckily I didn’t have to. This story is clever and creative, in such a refreshing way. We get to see Lauren change husbands like they were going out of style and although there’s not enough time to love or dislike the plethora of men we see, it didn’t take away from this story for me. It’s definitely a book that makes you think, especially living in a world where we truly have unlimited options. That can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. My ONLY gripe is that we don’t really get to know how to magic happens? Unless I missed something! When the synopsis claims all too plausible… it’s eerily true. There are multiple point of views but they all came together seamlessly to give us a truly thrilling story that is relevant to us today. I even tried to get the one from Waterstones but it won’t ship to the US. This book is so so good and totally binge worthy… the twists had me gasping 🫢 I seriously need to get my hands on the sprayed edge edition. (Did I already say that?) Sophie Amoss narrated the audiobook and she was fantastic! Her finesse plus Holly Jackson’s skill made this story SUPERB. A brilliant five star read! The audiobook saved this story for me and Eunice Wong did a phenomenal job bringing this story back to life. There’s a part of the story towards the end that didn’t feel cohesive to the rest of the story but as I sit here… I’m starting to think this would be a great book club choice! Overall, there were parts that worked for me and others that didn’t but I think it’s one you should read for yourself! Book Review 📖✨ Bye, Baby by Carola Lovering Thank you @netgalley and @macmillan.audio for the ALC and the chance to review it honestly. ** I read this before it released and never posted my review so here is it is… even if it’s a little late** I loved this book so much! I will not give anything away but I am kicking myself for not choosing this for my March BOTM box. *UPDATE: I bought a copy* I listened to this book every chance I got until I was finished. The whole time I felt bad for Billie, even if she made some reaallll poor choices. She actually ended up being my favorite character! I was completely entranced by this story and all of the drama! The female friendships are ridiculously relatable and I think readers and listeners will connect with this book on some level. Plus!! Anything Karissa Vacker narrates, I will 100% listen to. Both Karissa Vacker and Helen Laser did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. Bye, Baby is out 3/5/24. I must say I do enjoy this author’s writing style. I do however have mixed feelings about THIS story.
