It’s safe to say my life looks nothing like what I imagined when I left corporate America in 2022. I’m still figuring out this path, expanding into this space. I soar. I stumble. I make magic. I miscalculate. I say yes to what should have been no. I move with purpose and groundedness some days and spin myself in too many directions on others, as is my Aries tendency. What a blessing to be on this journey as part of the Good Grief Poetry Film Project. I’ve been walking down Memory Lane lately – not with longing but with appreciation. Last week, there was lunch with my high school friend Bekah, whose daughter is coming to MSU, and their friends who also went to my high school. Fun, full-circle connections! I’ve sent some TimeHop memories to friends from my stay-at-home era. I was just talking to friends the other day about how I don’t miss the baby and toddler year. A new friend said, “But each phase is good. Toddlers are better than babies. Preschoolers are better than toddlers.” Absolutely, but I think I’d like these years with teenagers to slow down. They’re going so fast! My second-grader’s teacher just posted in the class group that there are only 19 days of school left – whoa! See, so fast! But, of course, y’all know, I’ll take summer. Childhood best friend Katie and I like to talk when we drive – and we finally connected yesterday after swabbing voicemails and text messages. I wouldn’t want to go back to my middle and high school years, but I sure would like Katie to be my neighbor again. I walked down my rural road this week, through campus last week, and down Memory Lane at various moments recently. I keep coming back to this: God has provided so many connections and memories that show off his goodness. I’ve been hiding for a couple weeks March left me with some pretty crappy thoughts: “I’m a failure” “I’m not good enough” “It’s embarrassing” I know these are NOT true, yet it feels like they are in the moment. My brain likes to offer these thoughts as a way to “protect myself” from trying future things outside my comfort zone, but it’s actually doing me a disservice. They prevent me from celebrating all the positive things because all I’ve thought about was how I didn’t earn Brad’s spot to Cabo with me this time. It’s been two weeks. It’s time… Brain, I don’t need these negative thoughts anymore. We can flush them away! 🚽 I’m reminded yet again of the power of our thoughts and the importance of taking the time to recognize if it’s fact or crap. 💩 So here’s me coming out from hiding and admitting publicly that I did not reach my ultimate stretch goal AND acknowledging that it does not mean I’m a failure or have any reason to be embarrassed. I had many beautiful moments along the way and I’m still going to have a blast in Cabo with friends! Lots to celebrate and be thankful for once I weed through the thoughts that don’t serve me. I have to stop and ask myself in some situations: do I believe God is faithful? And the answer is always YES. When I look back at my life, His track record is perfect. The weather last weekend was absolutely gorgeous - sunny and perfect temps (just the right kind for strolling through Downtown Kalamazoo).✨ My first stop after enjoying a really great Worship Service last Sunday, was to check out the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. Wow!! It floored me when I looked up while taking photos of this beautiful building from the outside, and saw that they have a #dalechihuly glass chandelier hanging in their entryway!! WOW!! **(I had the pleasure of seeing the fantastic Dale Chihuly exhibit that the Detroit Institute of Arts showed off back in the early 90's -- which is partly how I was familiar with Chihuly's marvelous glass creations...
