Hi everyone, just wanted to make a sincere and educational post about PCOS. Living with PCOS is a constant balancing act, affecting both my physical and mental health. The hormonal imbalances often lead to physical symptoms like weight gain and bloating. These really make it hard to feel comfortable in my own skin. I. struggle to manage these symptoms along with many other women. It can take a toll on self-esteem, leading to insecurities and a reluctance to take photos or be in social situations. It’s important to remember that my feelings are valid, but they don’t define ME. Seek support, prioritize self-care, and know that you’re not alone in this journey! 💗 the photos of me in this post are ones I saw in my deleted photos because I saw my bloating, and I really just thought I’m not good enough. Looking back at them I realize how negative I was judging myself. This is something I struggle with daily. I’m working on it and I hope we all can learn from this. Changing the negativity and changing our perspectives into positivity. I hope my post helps someone out there who struggles just as much as I do.💗 #pcos #pcosawareness #bloating #hormones #hormonalacne #hormonalhealth #weightlossjourney #healthy #healthylifestyle #change #posivity #positivevibes #love #hope #pcossupport #pcosfighter #pcoslifestyle #pcoswarrior #pcossucks #pcosjourney

Wondering what the difference is between PCOS and PCOD? You're not alone! While they share similar names, they have key distinctions. Let's break it down: ➡️ PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome): ✔️ Hormonal disorder with irregular periods, excess male hormones, and ovarian cysts. ✔️ Impacts fertility, skin, weight, and mood. ✔️ Diagnosed through blood tests, ultrasound, and physical exam. ✔️ Comprehensive treatment may include lifestyle changes, medication, or surgery. ➡️ PCOD (Polycystic Ovary Disorder): ✔️ Structural finding with ovarian cysts but without hormonal imbalance. ✔️ May not cause symptoms; often incidental findings during ultrasound. ✔️ Usually doesn't require treatment unless causing specific concerns. #PCOSawareness #PCOS vs #PCOD #WomensHealth #ReproductiveHealth #BMNewLifeFertility

Been told you have Insulin Resistance or need to lose weight? If you have PCOS, these 3 things will help manage your blood sugar levels better 👇 1. Including a protein with your meal or snack 🥩 Protein can help slow the absorption of glucose into your bloodstream, meaning you will feel fuller for longer and won't get those spikes in your blood sugar levels. 2. Research has showed just 10 grams of vinegar significantly reduced blood sugars after meals by about 20%. Apple cider vinegar along with other types of vinegars slow carbohydrate absorption thus improving insulin sensitivity, promoting satiety, and enhancing how much of the excess carbs (we don't need immediately for energy) to be stored in your liver. 3. Resistant starch 🫘🫛helps lower blood sugar levels because it doesn't get fully broken down in the small intestine, so it releases glucose slowly into the bloodstream. This helps improve how insulin works, and promotes the production of helpful substances in our gut to support the breakdown of our carbs and prevent big spikes in blood sugar after eating. Resistant starch is in oats, barley, cooked and cooled rice or potato, green bananas and legumes. Do you include these 3 essentials in your meals? 🌟 Attention, ladies! Let's talk about insulin, insulin resistance, and how they impact our hormonal balance, especially for those with PCOS. Insulin is a key hormone that regulates blood sugar levels, but when our bodies become resistant to its effects, it can wreak havoc on our hormonal health. For women with PCOS, insulin resistance is often a major player, leading to irregular periods, weight gain, and difficulty conceiving. But fear not! By understanding the role of insulin and taking proactive steps to manage it through diet, exercise, and medication if needed, we can regain control of our hormonal balance and improve our overall well-being. Knowledge is power, so let's empower ourselves to prioritize our health and happiness! 💪 #Insulin #InsulinResistance #HormonalBalance #PCOSAwareness #WomensHealth #Empowerment #SouthAfricaWomen #WellnessJourney #TakeControl #HealthIsWealth

Turkey chorizo enchiladas! My first home cooked meal of the weekend. I ate heavy and drank a metric ton of gin so it’s no huge surprise that I surpassed my goal to lose 2lbs for the week on Friday’s weigh-in, but today’s showed a 4lb gain. That’s obviously mostly water retention from all the bullshit I put in my body the last 48 hours, but it’s still a rude slap in the face. I also only did 2-3 workouts. SOOooo another week begins. Whoops!

If you have PCOS and you’re not getting results, it might be because it’s not the right dietary management for your type of PCOS. Did you know that there are 4 types of PCOS? Type A –You have unbalanced hormones (causing acne, weight gain, hair loss and growth of facial hair), irregular periods (<21 days or >35 days) and multiple cysts on your ovaries (based on a scan). You’ve most likely been struggling with PCOS symptoms for years and at some point have tried cutting out carbs, cutting out dairy and cutting out gluten….but your PCOS symptoms continue to get worse. Type B - Unbalanced hormones (causing acne, weight gain, hair loss and growth of facial hair) and irregular periods (<21 days or >35 days). You’re most likely confused as to whether or not you actually have PCOS as although you experience all the side effects of PCOS, you don’t actually have many cysts on your ovaries. This can leave you wondering whether it’s something that you’re doing wrong. You switch between trying diets recommended by PCOS influencers, your own dietary experiments and eating whatever you feel like at the time. Type C - Unbalanced hormones (causing acne, weight gain, hair loss and growth of facial hair), multiple cysts on your ovaries (based on a scan), but regular periods You’ve been struggling with your weight for years, but couldn’t figure out why. Finally, after years of speaking to doctors, you were diagnosed with PCOS. Your metabolism is in a mess and you feel like the only way to lose weight is to starve yourself. Type D - multiple cysts on your ovaries (based on a scan) and irregular periods (<21 days or >35 days) You were most likely diagnosed with PCOS later in life. Although you’ve been diagnosed with PCOS, you don’t feel like you fit the typical PCOS stereotype. Although you’ve tried some of the dietary recommendations, your periods remain irregular, and you’re probably feeling confused about how to improve them and what you should be eating. If you’re struggling to manage your PCOS symptoms, DM us to see how a personalised dietetic assessment can help.

The relationship between PCOS and hyperthyroidism is intricate and often misconstrued. Hyperthyroidism, characterized by excessive thyroid hormone production, affects various bodily functions such as metabolism, heart rate, and hair growth, leading to symptoms like rapid weight loss, palpitations, and anxiety. This contrasts with some PCOS symptoms, such as weight gain and hair thinning due to hormonal imbalances in the ovaries. PCOS primarily involves elevated androgen levels, resulting in menstrual irregularities and ovulatory issues. However, hyperthyroidism can mimic or exacerbate PCOS symptoms related to menstrual cycles and fertility. Nevertheless, hyperthyroidism's occurrence within the PCOS population is relatively rare compared to hypothyroidism. Research suggests that the inflammatory state induced by PCOS may predispose individuals to thyroid disorders, though the direct impact of hyperthyroidism on PCOS symptoms remains less clear. Both conditions require a nuanced treatment approach, emphasizing targeted therapies addressing specific hormonal imbalances of each disorder. Comprehensive care and regular monitoring are crucial for individuals experiencing the dual burden of PCOS and hyperthyroidism to ensure treatment strategies effectively align with their health needs. April 21-27, 2024, is National Infertility Awareness Week ( #niaw ) Happy national infertility awareness week to all the parents who have a little miracle baby of their own and to the kick ass parents still trying. Never give up You're not alone, and you're stronger than you think ! My story with infertility is with PCOS I still remember at a very young age being told that I would never have children of my own and how bad that hurt me even though I was about 12 years old and kids were the last thing on my mind. I was still a young girl being told you're probably never going to be a mom, you're body is not doing what it should. This absolutely destroyed me, but as I grew older, I knew everything would be okay. God had a plan for me, whether that was to have kids of my own or not. So fast forward to 18 year old me who was determined to do everything in her power to get her pcos under control and to feel normal, only to fall pregnant with in the first few weeks of taken control of my life and body. I was the happiest I could ever be. The Inpossible became the possible. I told everyone I knew I could not believe this was happening my dreams of being a mom came true, only to have a miscarriage a week later and to be told this is normal with pcos even though it may be harder to get pregnant again not to worry this shows you can have babies. I was broken. What i thought to be my only shot of becoming a mother was gone , I failed as a woman but just when i was about ready to give up something told me to take a test and that's when I find out I was pregnant with my miracle baby Joseph now 8yr old and 4 years later wonderful Elon joined the team. I started this account to help me stay accountable, and while the intent has shifted from weightloss to self acceptance to general health and back to weightloss, I’m still working on self esteem every day (thank you, therapy). Last night I wore a top that’s been sitting in my closet for months and months, because I wanted to be in a smaller body when it debuted. I decided to stop waiting to look a certain way and just wear the damn thing. Rave reviews. Felt hot as hell. I didn’t spend all night fixating on being the biggest girl in my group, or the chubbiest on the dance floor. I didn’t wonder if people thought I was dressed too young for my age, or worry that my arms flubbed around while I danced. I’ve worked really hard in my adult life to present myself as confident. But that doesn’t quiet the noise in my head — the one that tells me I’m either judged by people around me, or worse, invisible. I guess my point is…at the end of the day, I have to constantly remind myself that this weightloss journey is about my health. It’s about living a long life in a body capable of dancing the night away. My genetics will always make my body look different, but my mom didn’t just pass down her weight struggles to me. She also passed down her beautiful face and biting wit. And whether or not I’m still fat in a year, those things won’t change. In short, I’m actively losing weight but I’m also hot in this fat body.

Unlocking the secrets of blood sugar regulation: let's talk about GLUT4 and insulin resistance! 🍬💪 GLUT4 is like a key that unlocks cells to let glucose in, all thanks to insulin. But when cells become resistant to insulin's signals, like in insulin resistance, GLUT4 doesn't work as effectively, leading to high blood sugar levels. 😔 Understanding this connection is key to managing our health and preventing conditions like type 2 diabetes. Let's keep the conversation going! 🌟 #GLUT4 #InsulinResistance #pcosawareness #nutrition #pcos #cyster

So I’ve been gone a while. To be honest I’ve been struggling mentally a hell of a lot since our suspected chemical pregnancy. It’s been so hard to process, especially as we can never confirm or deny that it happened. I stopped taking all of my medication and supplements, I stopped doing any exercise in-fact there has been weeks where I’ve not been able to leave my bedroom I’ve been struggling that much, all leading to me gaining a lot more weight so not only am I back to square one I am even further back than that. I’m taking a step back from TTC and focusing on my mental and physical health before we actively try again. I need to get back to myself before I have the mental capacity to even begin this journey again. I hope everyone is okay and thanks to the people who have checked up on me in my absence, it’s much appreciated. #ttc #ttccommunity #ttcjourney #ttcsisters #ttcsupport #ttctribe #quote #quoteoftheday #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #ttcuk #ttcukjourney #ttcukhelp #pcos #pcosweightloss #pcossupport #pcosawareness #pcosjourney #pcosuk #pcosukjourney #pcosuksupport #pcosukcommunity #pcosuk

Hi, hello & howdy 👋🏽 Welcome to my page! Those or you who know me know that I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2015 and suffered pretty badly with every symptom under the sun (listing a few) - prolonged periods - no periods - excessive hair growth - hair loss - weight gain - chronic fatigue Several scans later in 2019 I was told I had a lovely little cyst on my right ovary 🫠 this was meant to be monitored every 6 months but can't blame the NHS for their back log. Shoutout to my work PMI I was seen at a private hospital where I was told I have a cyst the size of an apple attached to my right ovary. I have two options leave it and run the risk of twisting my ovary and losing it entirely or surgery. I decided to opt for the surgical route which now leaves my consultant in a tricky position getting together a team to deal with my complex case 😅 So watch this space whilst I take you on the ride for my pre op journey 💚 #pcos #pcosawareness #polycysticovariansyndrome

Addressing PCOS involves a multifaceted approach. While the primary goal is to manage symptoms and prevent complications like heart disease, treatments are tailored to individual needs. Lifestyle interventions, such as diet adjustments, exercise, and weight loss techniques, play a pivotal role. Supplements, especially Vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids, can be beneficial. Embracing stress-reduction techniques like yoga and meditation offers holistic healing. Medicinally, options like birth control pills, Metformin, and anti-androgen drugs are available. And for those on the path to parenthood, fertility treatments can aid in successful conception. To Consult Dr. Ramya G, Family Physician and Diabetology, Chennai, Tamilnadu, Visit: http://ramsneuroandfamilyhealthcareclinic.whitecoats.com/ or Call: 9884502502 #PCOS #PolycysticOvarySyndrome #PCOSAwareness #PCOSSupport #HormonalImbalance #PCOSSymptoms #PCOSTreatment #WomensHealth #HormoneDisorder #PCOSWarrior #PCOSManagement #GynecologyCare #PCOSJourney #PCOSAware #HormoneHealth #GynecologicalHealth #PCOSCommunity #PCOSLife #HealthyHormones

A self initiated editorial project, based on an article about PCOS and the struggles these women deal with everyday. I was most shocked about how many tablets are taken by women with this condition, all because of how under researched it is. I wanted to illustrate this issue within my work here. Well, that's it 4 years later and the weight is gone and so is most of the skin... I had my last procedure just over a week ago now, they removed 0.5kg worth of skin from my back. This time unfortunately didn't go as smooth as my previous surgeries, I ended up back in emergency surgery with a internal bleed that had caused a blood clot. I noticed a large bruise on one side of my body, I mentioned it to my surgeon, I never expected to hear him say you have a internal bleed. I was scared and didn't no what to expect next thankfully surgery went well where they were able to stop the bleed. I'm now home healing well, but I sure did give my family a fright. #photooftheday #picoftheday #beauty #weightlossjourney #gastricsleevejourney #girlswithtattoos #gastricsleeveuk #blonde #girlpower #girlswholift #dogmum #fitnessjourney #healthylifestyle #happylife #motivation #pcosawareness #summer #selfie #goals

Struggling with PCOS can be puzzling when symptoms vary widely. Keep an eye out for some unusual or less commonly recognized signs that someone might be struggling with PCOS: • 𝗜𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀: One of the most common signs, but often dismissed as "irregular periods" without further investigation. • 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: Known as hirsutism, this involves hair growth in areas where men typically grow hair, such as the face, chest, and back. • 𝗛𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀: While excessive hair growth is a symptom, so is hair thinning or male-pattern baldness on the scalp. • 𝗔𝗰𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗻: Persistent acne or very oily skin that doesn’t improve with typical acne treatments can be a sign of PCOS. • 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: Especially around the abdomen, this can be a symptom despite regular exercise and a balanced diet. • 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗻: Particularly increases around the neck, groin, and under the breasts, known as acanthosis nigricans. • 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲: Extreme tiredness that doesn’t seem to get better with rest. • 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: Including depression and anxiety that seem disconnected from life circumstances. • 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀: Hormonal changes that come with PCOS can lead to frequent headaches. The statistics in this process are hard numbers to work with (in many ways). It’s emotional, it’s challenging, it’s thought provoking, it’s consistency, it’s complicated…the list is long. It’s taken years and it will take many years more. There are some things that are “easier” for me in my daily life, this has never been nor will be in the future one of them. Alas, when you hit a milestone of importance, acknowledging the work that went into it no matter how many weeks/months/years it’s taken, it is worth it. For the first time in my adult life, metrically and statistically speaking, I’m not obese. I’m “normal” with my BMI dropping by over 50%. 🙃 And yes, I know the BMI scale is garbage, however, it is still a given medical metric. So here we are. I’ll take as long as it takes me to write this post and then onward to the next! 🥳👏🫶 #vsgcommunity #bariatricsurgery #weightloss #weightlissjourney #dailyprotein #consistency #trialanderror #pcos #pcosweightloss #pcosawareness #pcoscommunity

This week marks my 1 year PCOS diagnosis anniversary. Just so happens that my taste in dresses haven't changed at all in the past year, first photo is April 2023 and the second was yesterday (April 2024). When I first found out I had PCOS I was so overwhelmed by all the information I was given and all the "tips" I saw online. I had no idea where to even start in managing my symptoms. Going dairy free came immediately, Gluten-Free came during month 2 and I really started seeing changes then. I said goodbye to red meat, pork, and soy month 3. Doing these changes gradually I was able to see how my body was being affected and was able to see what works specially for me. Managing PCOS symptoms is such an individualized journey and takes trial and error to find the right supplements that work for you, what you should be excluding from your diet, and what you should be adding to it. I've been able to see amazing changes both internally and externally in this past year. Sometimes the thought that there's no cure for PCOS and I will have to be working to manage it for the rest of my life is exhausting. I began posting recently because a year ago I wish I had certain information and if I can anyone along with their journey I'll say this is all worth it. #pcos #pcosweightloss #pcosawareness #pcosdiet #pcossupport #pcosfriendly
