I've been working on a project to sort out and upload a large group of plein air watercolors I did in the early 1990s. I didn't know the term plein air, I just did it...figuring it myself! I lived in the Desolation Wilderness area of South Lake Tahoe for a year total and also traveled the country to the national parks on long trips with a boyfriend for several years. Fun fact: I didn't have a car, tv, or phone for most of the 1990s! I found a lot of peace painting in these beautiful places, but it's long past time to let these go. Can you spot Simon in this pic? This was one of our magical morning coffee moments of backpacking last summer in California’s Desolation Wilderness. We love car/campground camping too, but there is something so valuable about the minimalism of backpacking that reminds us of how little STUFF we actually need in order to experience spectacular beauty and deep inner and outer peace. These kinds of trips bring opportunities for a more intimate connection with nature, ourselves and each other. And of course, for being resourceful and for tapping into our physical and mental strength. We’ve been fortunate to have whole lakes to ourselves sometimes!
