These numbers may surprise anyone who doesn’t follow the ongoing apocalypse humans wreak on the animals & environment every single day, but the science is real & undeniable: of all mammals on Earth, ‘wild’ or free animals are only 4%. Let that sink in for a moment… Humans are 34% & so-called ‘livestock’ & pets are 62% (pets being only 1% & the enslaved ‘food’ animals a whopping 61% or roughly 2/3 of all mammals on earth). And these numbers are almost 10 years old. In the interim the human population has grown to over 8 billion. And this chart does not show birds or ‘poultry’ such as chickens which are killed at the rate of 70 billion a year for ‘food’ plus another 7 billion male chicks that are ground alive on their first day as useless to the egg industry (since they cannot lay eggs). Not only is this simply cruel & stupid, it is completely & obviously unsustainable. 75% of crops & antibiotics are for animals which will be killed for completely unnecessary & unhealthy animal protein consumed by humans, when the largest & strongest animals eat nothing but plants. Yes, bulls & gorillas, hippos & elephants are completely vegan. Nobody wonders if they are protein-deficient! That is simply a myth of the meat industry, just like ‘Got Milk?’ is a myth of the just-as-bloody dairy industry. Cow milk is simply NOT for humans, just as human milk is not for cows. Cows only make milk when they are mothers, but greedy humans subvert that natural process at every turn: artificially impregnating the cows, stealing their babies (killing the males outright or only slightly later as veal) & then killing the mother for fast food ‘meat’ when her milk production wanes after about 5 pregnancies & the theft of all her children. For anyone appalled by all this outright abuse & slaughter of the innocent (not to mention the incredible waste of land & water), there are many better choices. Have you tried Meatless Monday? That is only a 15% reduction—but still, a start. There is also No Meat May. Wow—31 days of not abusing (and killing) animals! But better than not trying. . . Grand Teton National Park royalty, Grizzly mom 610, is seen here with two of her three cubs. . I had the most amazing experience photographing this family of four. I spent about 6 1/2 hours watching them travel across the park - across streams, prairies, where they eventually climbed a snowy mountain disappear from view, just after swimming across a river! Epic!! . Grizzly 610 is the daughter of world famous Grizzly 399. They both hold rock star status amongst grizzly lovers. I am grateful to have been able to spend so much time with 610 and her cubs. The cubs will soon be emancipated within the next few weeks. . It was easily one best wildlife sightings I've ever had (similar to a super-pod orca sighting), and definitely my favorite sightings of grizzlies to date. . WORKERS’ RIGHTS FOR ALL? Part of the reason why we observe Workers Day in South Africa is to celebrate workers’ rights, signifying the sacrifices made to achieve fair employment standards. On this day we cannot help but expand our thinking toward the animals who have been made to “work” for humans, too. There are many species who have been exploited by man as “working animals”, but one that we would like to touch on today is the security dog. Security dogs are used by security companies as an additional deterrent to criminal activity when the truth is that human guards, security cameras and alarm systems are even more effective, without the cruelty. Security dogs are often subjected to horrendous treatment and living conditions, cramped in tiny cages all day, only to be let out “to guard” properties at night, provided no stimulation or interaction with people or other animals and provided the bare minimum in terms of sustenance. To security companies, these dogs are nothing more than a piece of equipment and for an animal who has evolved alongside humans, this existence is a tragic one. Think of your companion animal who lays on your couch, sleeps on your bed and with whom you share an intense bond. Security dogs want nothing different, yet are starved of affection and effectively treated as prisoners who are let out into the exercise yard for a few hours a day or night. Due to the Animal Protection Act being so weak, as long as these animal’s most basic needs are met, companies can continue to exploit dogs for profit. International Anti-Vivisection World Protest Toronto April 2024 Last Saturday, Animal Rights Activists joined forces with @to.antivivisection (TAVA) as part of the organization’s 2nd annual Anti-Vivisection world protest as they marched through the streets of Toronto. With 43 cities participating from around the globe, Activists gathered to raise their voices against the cruel and unnecessary practice of animal testing. This epic event involved activists occupying the corners of the intersection, powerful chants, public outreach, music and flower ceremony to commemorate the millions of animals that are tortured and murdered by the University of Toronto. The event also featured speaker from Animal Alliance of Canada who shared with us the horrific practice of the Canadian military in exploiting and torturing baby pigs. Thank you TAVA for coordinating such a wonderful event and allowing me to take part in making history for the animals. It is always a pleasure to fight alongside you and the countless of compassionate hearts that are united for animals. Let's empty the cages. 📌Ινκα Η μικρή μας Ίνκα βρέθηκε με το αδερφάκι της(Λεξ) στην Αθήνα. Ήταν και τα δυο αποστεωμένοι με πολλά δερματικά και αφυδατωμένοι. Με πολλή αγαπη και φροντίδα σιγά σιγά αναρρωσαν και ο Λεξ βρήκε την παντοτινή του οικογένεια, αφήνοντας έτσι την μικρή μας Ινκα να περιμένει τη δική της σειρά. Από τότε πέρασε ένας μήνας και όλα τα κουταβάκια που ήρθαν για να της κάνουν παρέα υιοθετήθηκαν. Η μικρή μας έμεινε πάλι μόνη. Θα θελαμε πολύ να τη δούμε και εκείνη σε ένα σπίτι , όπου θα ζήσει σαν ισότιμο μέλος❤️ Είναι 5 μηνών, υγιής και έχει ολοκληρώσει τον κύκλο των εμβολίων της. Είναι πολύ φιλική με όλους, ανθρώπους, παιδιά αλλά και σκυλάκια και γεμάτη ενέργεια για να εξερευνήσει τον κόσμο! Της αρέσουν τα παιχνίδια και τρελαίνεται για λιχουδιές! 🐭📣🐰 Progress for Science, joined by our superstar cohosts PRISM, @losangelesforanimals , and @laanimaldefenseleague , returned yesterday after a several year pandemic hiatus to the UCLA campus to advocate for #WorldWeekforAnimalsinLabs demanding an end to wasteful, non-predictive and unethical animal experimentation. Our group, which marched from the Westwood entrance to Murphy Hall with stops at bio research buildings and at Bruin Plaza with speakouts, chanting and outreach on the way, was small but loud! One of our PhD activists also did a speakout out exposing UCLA's extensive investment in bogus animal-based addition studies. We finished with a human microphone beneath the chancellors offices at Murphy Hall. The campus was crowded with students taking lunch in the sun or rushing to and from classes. They were also protesting. Palestinian, Jewish and students of various other identities had set up an encampment in front of nearby Royce Hall in opposition to the UCLA war machine investments and an end to silence on the mass unaliving of the people of Gaza. We sent a solidarity message letting them know we would not be interfering with their action and they replied inviting us to join, saying "our causes are interconnected"! We saw that reply too late unfortunately though several of us went by the camp on our own. Animal liberation is indeed connected to human liberation and we look forward to the day when all humans realize the truth of "no one is free, until all are free". When our societies and cultures stratify our own into more and less worthy, than animals will always be seen as the lowest and most exploitable. As long as animals are without rights and respect then the "lowest" groups of humans, in being compared to them, will be legitimized as objects of oppression. We believe no earthling is lesser or higher, all have equal rights to our own lives. Progress for Science's specific mission is to be the advocates for those in labs whose very existences are deemed so valueless that they can be thrown away in the pursuit of worthless science. Løftet blev givet som svar på det succesfulde europæiske borgerinitiativ (EBI) "End the Cage Age", der blev støttet af 1,4 millioner mennesker! Trods dette klare mandat fra borgerne, har Kommissionen svigtet borgerne, dyrene og sin demokratiske pligt, hvilket har tvunget Borgerkomiteen for EBI til at indlede en retssag EU Domstolen. (læs artikel i kommentarspor) Retssagen understreger en kritisk pointe: EBI blev skabt for at give EU-borgerne mere indflydelse over EU's beslutningstagning. At underminere et sådant historisk løfte er et direkte slag mod demokratiet og underminerer formålet med dette nye 'demokratiske' værktøj. Dyrenes lidelser er ulidelige og fortsætter hver dag. Over 300 millioner svin, fugle, kaniner og pelsdyr lever i ubarmhjertige forhold over hele EU. Denne systematiske vanrøgt er ikke blot dybt uetisk, men det er også i direkte modstrid med de europæiske borgeres klare mening: En Eurobarometer-undersøgelse fra sidste år viste, at 89% af EU's borgere er imod dyr i bure! Desuden har Kommissionens videnskabelige rådgivere, den Europæiske Fødevaresikkerhedsautoritet, støttet udfasningen af bure. Det er tydeligt, at der er bred konsensus om nødvendigheden af denne ændring. Today is World Day for Animals in Laboratories. We could write so much but instead, we’d like to leave you with a simple thought. This day is often referred to as World Day for Laboratory Animals. This is wrong. No animal is a laboratory animal, just like no cow is a dairy cow, no horse is a racing horse, and so on. Language matters. Animals exist for their own purposes. They have intrinsic value and deserve moral consideration independent of their usefulness to humans. They have their own lives, experiences, and interests that are separate from human desires or utility. Just like humans, animals experience joy, pain, and the desire to live a fulfilling life. Calling a rat a laboratory rat implies that this is their job, that this is why they exist in the first place. While it is true that they are bred for this reason, they should not be bred at all. They should never be in this position to begin with. They are, in fact and unfortunately, a rat in a laboratory. 🐰💉🐇 UCLA not only experiments on animals but they also make painful and someimes deadly mistakes with animals. Like any animal research institution, UCLA kills animals, not just as part of the studies its vivisectors perform, but also because it misuses and abuses the animals in its "care" and are just plain incompetent. Even if animal research had a better track record in predicting human outcomes, how can you really trust results when they are such bumbling idiots? Case in point: in a complaint filed with the NIH by PETA in 2023, UCLA was found to have confused one rabbit identification number with another, causing one bunny to endure a procedure without pain meds—the medication was administered to a rabbit who hadn’t undergone the procedure. In another incident, staff subjected another rabbit to surgery without the required preoperative medication. Captivity can break their bodies but not their spirit. Jade is the most playful of the tigers rescued as ADI emptied Guatemala’s circuses following the country’s ban on animal acts, but her distinctive walk has a dark origin. Jade has a ‘goosestep’ walk due to spondylitis – a type of arthritis which causes inflammation in the joints and ligaments of the spine. In captive big cats, this is primarily caused by poor nutrition. At the circus where we rescued Jade, we found drums full of chicken feet, which we were told was food for the cats. Jade and sister Luna were 18 months old when we rescued them and the damage had already been done. Their younger sisters from another litter, Sun and Moon, were rescued at the same time but were just six months old, so the damage had not started. Sun and Moon are now significantly larger than Luna and Jade, and walk and run normally because they grew from an earlier age with a proper diet with added vitamin and mineral supplements. Max and Stripes were rescued from the circus at 6 months old, many months after Luna and Jade. They have also benefited from a nutritious diet with added supplements since they were cubs, and as a result, they are much larger than their parents and luckily, no sign of spondylitis. Poor Ruben was rescued aged 15 with his body ravaged by inadequate nutrition and confinement. His MRI showed his spine breaking down, compromising his spinal cord, and it was his sheer willpower that drove him to walk and play. Sadly, the damage and degenerative neuropathy could not be stopped and he passed away. Luckily, Jade and Luna seem to have been saved in time and our two ‘Spice Girls’ enjoy running, playing, and chasing in their boisterous games! Captivity means inadequate nutrition, lack of freedom to move, and suffering for intelligent and emotional wild animals. Before I continue with the heartwarming posts, I need to go back to the beginning. Dawn's life began the day she fell off the truck, taking her spent body to slaughter. Before that, she merely existed. 18 months of being treated as nothing more than a commodity, a machine, one of thousands, millions. Unnamed, unheard, unseen, crammed into dark dusty cages in long metal buildings... a stark contrast to the beauty of the prairies just outside their prison walls. While I don't know exactly where sweet Chickie lady came from, I can smell it. Dust,feces, the slightly soured scent of grain. I can hear it. The sound of thousands and thousands of clawed feet scrambling atop wire floors. The beating of wings against the sides and tops of the cages they're crammed into. The sound the feathers make as the bare shafts, feathers worn away by the crowding, get stuck on each bar as they rise and fall...similar to the the sound a stick would make being dragged along a chain link fence by a child. The constant deafening hum of the massive ventilation fans along the walls, pushing out air thick with dander and dust, and bringing in the fresh prairie air. If it brings any hint of the world outside into this hell, it is fleeting, quickly overwhelmed by the smell of the desperate birds inside. And, of course, I can hear the hens themselves. Calling out, constantly. Expressing pain,frustration, devastation. Calling out to nobody and calling out to thousands, each going unheard until they die. They peck at, step on, torment their fellow prisoners, beak tips cut after hatching to minimize the damage their conditions cause them to inflict upon one another. There is no rest, no comfort, only survival...and of course, laying. Everyday, they watch as yet another egg rolls away from them, down the tilted floor and out of the cage into a trough. Another egg. Another egg. I've been there before. With the help of others, Chickie wasn't the only hen to leave this hell into my care. But Chickie came alone, unexpectedly, on her own accord, and at a very dark and terrible time in my life. I latched onto her the same as she latched onto me, and we helped eachother survive.

Today we went to see the new Spencer statue along the Boston Marathon route! Spencer stood for years along the route holding a Boston Strong flag in his mouth cheering on runners. Animals Keep Dying at Exploitative Marineland of Canada: Marineland of Canada’s grave death toll keeps increasing each year. Less than 11 months after Sonar the dolphin and Kodiak the beluga died there, two more beluga whales died at the abusement park in March 2024. Both apparently died from an abnormal and fatal twisting of the stomach. This means that since 2019, 22 animals have reportedly died, including 16 belugas, orca Kiska, a dolphin, a gray seal, a harbor seal, and two California sea lions. Three quick reasons: BAD SCIENCE: it is estimated that 90 percent of results from basic science experiments on animals fail to lead to human treatments. This is an unconscionable outcome when considering how many lives are lost for nothing. WASTEFUL: at $19.6 billion, animal experiments, even though results are not cost effective, take up almost half of the NIH's funding for research projects - $37.5 billion in 2020. This taxpayer money should be redirected to fund alternative non animal- based methods. CRUEL: animals are bred or taken from the wild and forced to spend their lives locked in labs and, legally, subjected to being burned, shocked, poisoned, isolated, starved, drowned, addicted to drugs, and brain-damaged even with no pain relief.
