Seems rather fitting that our time in Cornwall and Devon comes to an end with a remarkable trip to Exeter Cathedral! This is one of the most spectacular in England and has a history that goes back almost 1000 years. Exeter Cathedral's story began in 1050 when the bishop's seat moved to Exeter, initially using an existing Saxon church. A Norman rebuild started in 1114, but the grand Gothic structure we see today was largely built between 1275-1375. It's famous for its long unbroken stretch of Gothic vaulting and astronomical clock. The cathedral faced challenges: a medieval power struggle led to murder, the Civil War saw its chapter disbanded, and a 1942 bombing raid caused significant damage during the "Baedeker Blitz". Despite these events, Exeter Cathedral has remained a religious and cultural landmark for centuries. I can't wait to research it further. I spent most of my time walking around with my jaw slack... it is almost so much it is hard to know where to look! Spring has come out of nowhere this year! After seeing bluebell photos begin to appear on my social media feeds I decided to head down to my local Dartmoor bluebell woodland yesterday evening to see how things were progressing. Due to it's high elevation, the bluebells and fresh foliage usually comes later to Dartmoor, and while the new leaves weren't completely out, there were enough fresh greens to compliment the bluebells. The bluebell woodlands down this way are somewhat more challenging to photograph than the clean, lovely beech woods further east, and are full of twiggy, bushy areas amongst the flowers with trees in a chaotic, haphazard arrangement. [AD /Review Stay] Devon with Kids Contributor @StaceyJSheppard and her family spent last weekend enjoying the first signs of spring sunshine @Valleyside_escapes_glamping in the village of Bickleigh- on-Exe in mid-Devon. They spent two nights sleeping in style at the multi-award-winning glampsite which is just a short 10-minute drive from Tiverton. They stayed in Birch, which is one of the three, six-berth safari tents that benefit from beautiful panoramic views of the Exe Valley. Stacey, her husband and two daughters enjoyed spending time in nature, exploring the riverside meadow, and generally lapping up the sunshine from the comfort of their private veranda. The kids enjoyed the on-site play area which was a stone’s throw from the tent as well as the games room which was a short walk away near the main house and on-site bar that serves some of the best local cider.
