Réveil difficile ce matin, fatiguée mais une fois lancée c'était parti pour une grosse journée avec 106 km au compteur. Uniquement du plat donc on a bien bombardé avec 23 km/h de moyenne en trainant 30 kg. Après les étapes difficiles on trouve ça trop facile le plat. Paysages entre campagne et mer asser sympa et on a même traversé quelques petites forêt ça faisais 3 semaines qu'on en avait pas vue. Les kilomètres ont vite défilés et la journée est passée vite. Une fois arrivés j'avais l'impression d'avoir fait seulement 40 km. J'aurais pu faire le double au final j'étais en grande forme ! On est arrivés à hauteur de Rome, déjà en 3 jours donc on continue de remonter au nord. Iceland diary #day58 After many weeks of continuous snow, then sun showed up so much the past two weeks. You see so many people going for a run, kids playing outside with water, many on their bikes. You walk through the street and smell barbecues. You see people in t-shirts and shorts...at 5 degrees Hahha and I love it. I had a certain image in my head how Icelandic people would be and it’s completely different then I thought. That’s one of the things why I deeply love to live in different countries, because I get to uncover how life truly is here. When you just visit a place for a few days you’ll only be left with and idea or a general image. I truly feel grateful that I have that opportunity to see how life in a little town of Iceland is and it brings me a lot of joy. There were meetings, there were zoom calls, there were stacks of paperwork and countless emails, all sent in at least three different languages. There were great minds working together, there were eager volunteers and there was a sense of community. There were headaches, there were sleepless nights and there were big, big dreams. There was bureaucracy, there were unnecessary barriers and there were lots of negotiations. Then there were the spineless threats, the finger wagging and the uneducated judgment that often comes from the animal rights groups. All of this, lasting more than year and all the while no one knew if it would actually come to fruition. Well, that is not true. Anyone familiar with the Mayor of Janvry, the volunteer corps of Janvry and the passionate members of the French camel federation, never had a doubt in their mind. I am not too shy to admit, I was one of those who smugly said this will happen and I will be there. I am, of course, speaking of the gallant efforts put forth to make sure the great Camel Parade of Paris not only happened, but also that it was a show stopping event. I will be forever grateful to all of those on the steering committee and all of those who said they would not let such a big dream be too daunting or intimidating. The committee and the big dreamers behind this camel showcase thought of everything. They addressed safety, pageantry, inclusion, education, public relations and media collaborations. Seriously, was there a detail they overlooked? Not that I could see. We arrived in Janvry a few days before the actual event and were lucky to help with a few of the minor details in preparation, but what it really did was open our eyes to just how much work, love, sweat, thought and teamwork goes into such an affair. I arrived confident that this ambitious team could be successful and I leave even more impressed. This cowgirl tips her hat to all the passionate camel lovers who showed the world how we take care of our camels and our camel events.
